Outstanding job! I built this some years ago as well. So glad to see a modeler get the deck correct for this mission! I used white stripe decal, but your paint job came out great! Fantastic work! Really nice. 👍👍
Thank you so much Chris! This is one of those great moments in American history, where we finally struck back against our enemy. Everything up to this point was bleak but this gave Americans hope. The logistics and how this plan got carried out is incredibly fascinating. I thought it would make a good subject for a dio and I tried to capture that famous photo of the B-25 taking off the deck. I appreciate the support!
Building this now. Haven't built a model in 25 years, but this kit got my attention as a COVID-19 project. Videos like yours are helping me work through the build.
Thank you so much! Reading comments like this really makes me happy to make the videos to help others out! I had so much fun building it, all the best moving forward with your project! I’d love to see it finished!
After i watched this , i wanna try to make my first diorama. (i have never made before.) i like your technique that you use cotton . It very realistic ! 💕 Beautiful build
I'm really happy you enjoyed it! I've always been intimidated by some of these dioramas people make, but this something anyone can do and its not expensive. The cotton was something I decided to do last minute, and I think it added something to it rather than dry brushing. I would love to see you try a diorama with some of your awesome ships one day :)
I've got this same kit in my stash, although I've recently built the Yorktown watching this video has motivated me to pull the Hornet off the shelf and build her as well. Fantastic work man. I love the weathering it isn't too subtle and certainly isn't over the top. Awesome build all around.
That makes my day, thank you! I enjoyed working on this one, it allowed me to try some things out, like salt/rust weathering, dusting the flight deck. I felt if I did it, I had to try and depict the Doolittle raid, so I went for it. The camouflage was actually a dark blue color, the instructions have it as a dark gray so depending on if you want to be accurate or not, watch out for that. I would love to see how it turns out once you do it, feel free to reach out if you have questions :) Good luck!
@@joekmodels The Yorktown is essentially the same kit so it should prove to be a fun build, not sure when I will start her, i currently have a couple projects on the bench already but i will get to her for sure. Looking forward to your next build man.
Good job - I should have watched this video before I ordered my “micro-machine” teeny pocket sized model aircraft carrier, which additionally is only from the water line up. I’m not building a diorama. My goal was to build an impressive, detailed display for a glass case - this thing will get lost in the accumulation of dust!! YOU did great work but my model isn’t even seeing the light of day. It’s going back! I see that anything smaller than 1:426 or 1:350 is not my preferred or appreciated model scale.
My pleasure! When I did my Tamiya 1/48 Wildcat build, I referenced your videos along with Brett's on my journey, so I will consider it returning the favor! I was very happy with that project, and your videos were most helpful. I just put out an in-depth how to today for doing the water base in the hopes it might help someone. Appreciate you checking out the video Drew!
I have a model of the USS Hornet I painted it by looking at the picture on the box I surprised myself it looked pretty good my dad was in the Navy doing ww ll he used to tell me stores of how plains would land on the ships
Much better than mine I couldn’t actually tell which color was the flight deck because some depicted it gray and some depicted tan I went with tan but I’m pretty sure my thinner didn’t was great so it kinda messed it up I kept it though and mine seems ok I’d sand it but I don’t wanna erase the details on it
Thank you for checking it out! I was a little confused what to do with the deck myself as various paintings showed an all tan wood deck while others were a gray. All the pictures were pretty much black and white so it was hard to tell. If I remember correct, they painted it a gray color to protect it but it would fade over time and reveal some signs of the wood, which is what I went for. I actually think it would look better with the all wood deck, but I was trying to somewhat historically accurate. In the end it's your piece and you can represent it how you want!
Nah, you inspired me. I wasn't even going to do the dio until I saw what you did. We just pass on knowledge and inspiration to one another is all! Thanks for checking out the video Xavier, I appreciate your support!
Excellent job. Surely those B-25's were heavy with the weight of the steel balls
Great build of a monumental moment in history! ❤️👍
Thanks Ed! It was a pivotal moment in history, even if just for morale.
I've never seen that pastel dust method. I'm stealing that one!
You should! You have to overdo it some as once you add the top coats it can diminish the effect but it is simple and effective!

@@joekmodels no . I built the Shokaku aircraft carrier of tamiya but not the sea and waves part.
What do you use for making the plane over the sea?
Newbie question: Why hand painting the deck instead of brush paint?
Not sure exactly what you mean Lee? You mean why did I use a brush on the deck instead of an air brush?
👍👍👍
Ty!
Why do I always snap antennas off? Damn hands used to rough work.
Broken a few myself! Nothing some time and glue can’t fix usually and thankfully
