Making Oboe Reed [ASMR]

- I wanted to share the musical part of me in ASMR format. As an Oboist, I have to make my own reed. Usually 1 finished reed will last about 1 month. All professional Oboist will make their own reed.
This video covers splitting the cane into three pieces, cutting the cane into the right length, gauging the cane, shaping the cane and binding the cane onto a stapler.
I will make another video about scrapping the reed to finish later but that will not be in ASMR format since I need to crow the reed.

You don't have to but some people do because of the high price of double reeds.
"Step one is measuring them all so we only get 10.5" and lumping them all back together is the new, "We need more blocks in this deck" and then "Gotta love a claw".
Man, the sounds those bamboo/sugar cane make when they collide is extremely pleasant.
I'm glad you tried this Kate, even though I'm a musician I had no idea that you had to do so much just to make your reeds, let alone practicing lol.... Anyways, I love your gaming content and this was just an added bonus; keep em coming!

This is one of the coolest ASMR. I play bassoon and clarinet and I have to say, I don't understand how people make their own reeds. It's some serious skills, actually.

As a fellow reed player I find this super interesting. I never did learn to make my own reeds but I contemplate it every time I fork over 20-60 dollars for a box of ten depending on if I get it from Amazon or from a music store ㅠㅠ Keep up the good work, it's a nice video!

Don't know why but the part where you measured the cane strips with that "Pinchy" Gauge, just watching the piece of cane get measured and waiting to see if the piece of cane would get put in the water was something I couldn't look away from
With as much as ryab makes fun of ASMR, this is quality content, and I respectfully request more please
The ASMR was cool, but the bit I enjoyed most about this video was how many steps there are in making an oboe reed. Very interesting! :D
Aww was this a stream? I wish I could have been off work to watch live ☹ I work in music as well ^^ so seeing something like this is quite lovely ☺ being able to create your own instrument that you can make beautiful music with. I love it ❤
I can say with certainty that I never watched a Oboe reed construction video before. Used to play saxophone, never even occurred to me to make my own reed (if that's even a thing for saxophonists to begin with).

i was wondering, is it really necessary to use one blade per reed? wouldn't you be able to do at least two or three per? a blade doesn't really dull that fast no? just really curious

This is actually great content. Although i will say that i find the whispering a little silly. ASMR in general is something i don't completely understand. i would love similar content like this just to get interesting perspective from a professional musician
