  • There is one powerful detail that we miss in the story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8 that shows us the humility of Jesus.

This verse reveals to us that Jesus Christ is the judge hence he referred to them "he who's without sin should throw the stone unto the woman" Jesus Christ is the only one who's without sin and us into him we are without sin 🙏

When we sin, come to Him, when we think someone sins, come to Him, when someone judges us, come to Him, when we judge someone, come to Him, when we already know what to do, come to Him......,

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today, September 24, 2023, John 8:1-11, 56-59, was the basis for our Sunday School Lesson of the day. It was entitled "Jesus Prevents Two Stonings." The hymn, "Restre in Us, O God," is a good hymn to compliment this Scripture.

I love this. Once I had an open revelation of this very account in Word. I was not only the woman caught but I was one of those holding a stone to throw. I dropped the stone in this "vision" and watched as Jesus bent down & spoke to her. He became the "Glory & Lifter of her head." At the close of this open revelation, Jesus stands up, the woman lifts up her head and slips her arm through the arm of the Lord as they walked through the city (in my vision it was Charleston). As they walked together (it was really me walking with Him), she grew in her confidence in what He was sharing. Then He told her to go and invite the people everywhere to His Father's House - to a banquet He was holding for ALL (the Lame, the Blind, the Weary & the Poor). She did as He asked. Thank you for this powerful word & for bringing to my remembrance the wonderful encounter I had long ago in this vision. (JoAnn Parrott - July 28, 2022)

So much for the law of Moses then , when confronted with divine unconditional love and grace and I emphasise unconditional divine love .

What we learn about this story is that Jesus is the same God that formed man from the dust, and that we are not the judge of one another, rather He is the only judge.
He did not come to condemn, but to restore. He did not come to let others get away with it, but to remind them that if they don’t leave their life of sin, they will eventually have to face the Judge.
No one is righteous, no not one…

I have kind of been obsessed with that story, but yes I have never thought of the aspect of Jesus bowing down towards the woman, and how that would have infuriated the hard set traditional Jews there

An interjection from a Jew here. Two accusers were necessary for a trial; if found guilty the two accusers were given a choice: to forgive or to punish. They were not allowed to just stand by and watch, the accusers were required to throw the first stone. The majority of times the choice was to forgive. This made the tradition provide for both punishment and mercy, allowing for us to see the severity of transgressing Gods law as well as showing his mercy.
Also (not to insist but to suggest) Jewish law requires the names of the accusers to be written on the dust of the floor of the temple meaning before God, I make this testimony. Perhaps he was writing the names and sins of all in attendance, maybe he was writing the law (as the finger who wrote the law on the tablets would best know how to interpret that law)… I dunno. I’m not a Christian theologian, a biblical scholar or even a journeyman in the realm of scripture…..
I’m just a Jew who loves Jesus and like trying to figure him out.

I think there was something else that's missed here. The trap was Jews could not legally put someone to death at that time. If Yeshua said stone her He was saying break the law if he said don't stone her He was breaking the Law. That was the trap. My2Cents

Is breaking Roman laws a sin from God's perspective?
