When you’re in the first stages of building an online business, it can be frustrating to figure out how to find clients. This video outlines four creative, proven ways to land your first paying customers.
1. Identify potential clients and contact them. Don’t wait for clients to come to you. Find specific people who can benefit from your services, give them advice, demonstrate your credibility, offer free help for a limited time, and ask for a testimonial once you’ve successfully delivered value.
Testimonials are crucial for building an online business. Ask your satisfied clients for specific, before-and-after details and for the situational impact of working with you. Leverage testimonials by using them as case studies.
2. Take your best job skill and turn it into your business. Once you’ve determined what you’re good at and what you have to offer, research the market and get to know your target audience. Find out what your ideal client wants, then craft an engaging offer based on what you learn.
Wondering how to find clients you don’t even know about yet? Get referrals. Ask your current clients to introduce you to other people you can help.
3. Connect with an entire audience. In the online world, there are gatekeepers with an established following - podcast hosts, Facebook group administrators, publishers, and website owners. Find your audience, show up where they are, engage with them, and demonstrate your expertise.
4. Use your personal network to get clients. Plenty of people already know you and what you can do. Share your intentions, highlight your skills, and ask for referrals and introductions.
This is how to find clients as you’re building an online business: Reach out to your audience and make meaningful connections.

Be politely persistent.
Luisa, your insights are incredible, thank you 😊
Awesome summary! :)
I can't believe this is FREE!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Luisa!!! You rock!!!! 😍😍😍😍
With the 1st creative strategy example, IMO I don't believe anybody should work for free (not including free coaching calls, strategy sessions, mini courses, etc). Instead, I rather create a beta version of my paid offer to build trust, get them to know my working style, and deliver the results to my client. Then, I will invite him or her to continue working with me in the fullest capacity. However, very valuable video. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, you pack a WILD amount of value into each of your videos! You've made a subscriber out of me ❤️
Great creative tips to get clients. It's doesn't have to be hard. My first client came from donating a 1-hour call to a charity that my friend was running / a cause that was really important to me. We did the free 1-hour call, she loved it, then sure enough she booked with me for a longer term relationship. She was an amazing client and a $4,600 deal. The more creative that you can get with this, the easier that it can be :)
Glad you found them helpful. And YES exactly! I love the creative way you got your first client! :)

Spot on ! Can you recommend any good platforms that MATCH Coaches with Clients, where the plaform has a large marketplace?
Effectively an "AGENT" for coaches to get paid gigs & a channel for clients/people to find coaches.
I found 3 but not sure how large their audience is ?
Hope to shake your hand one day. You demystify things in such a useful way it's incredible.
Thank you again Luisa! As a personal stylist for moms, I’m having problems doing market research in fb groups for all the mom groups heavily prohibit it. Working with moms is already a challenge because they’re selfless and busy,. I want to change that selfless attitude and give them more confidence, style and self sufficient style tools that doesn’t take a lot of their time. Where are places moms hang out online? Or maybe they’re not online lol
A lot of my students work with moms in some setting or other. So they are definitely online! Easiest thing to do - find a few moms and ask them where they are hanging out online
I hang out on Instagram and RUclips. Your comment caught my attention. Where can I find your website. Keep commenting and leave your social media handles so we mommies can find you
I know this question is 3 years old, but Instagram has tons of mom groups, I know because I started a page for moms 2 years ago. I live in ATL and and a lot of other mom based groups started following the page. Perhaps you can ask them to do a IG live Collaboration, it's easier than RUclips based on my experience.
I loved strategy number 2. My company is for anyone really but I think the niche I should focus on is single moms. That's what I was when I started myself and it helped me alot to just be there for my kids work whenever I want around their schedules... Now I offer this to others but think it would help the single moms the most. I need to find places where I can explain how I can help them and get 20 mins of their time... Lord this was golden 🙏🏽. Why I didn't think of that.... That 3rd strategy is something I've thought of but haven't found the proper fb group. I'ma work on both. Loved this . Thanks alot ❤️
Happy to hear it!! :)

Hello! Incredible content, thank you. So helpful. Now one thing i cant get clear as a wellness coach is: who is my ideal client? Everyone that needs to improve their wellness. That doesn’t narrow it down. How do I know?
Based on the videos I have been watching, typically, you want to target someone who you can help achieve a certain transformation. This can be part of a journey you have already gone through, or it can based on the help you have already provided someone else to get them to their desired end goal. It can also be based on your formal education and training, but the goal is to solve a painful problem for someone else who is gladly willing to pay a decent amount of money for your time, expertise, and attention. For instance, if you reversed an autoimmune condition, lost a substantial amount of weight, restored your metabolic function so that you didn't need blood pressure medications, increased your cardiovascular fitness, developed a habit of walking 20K+ steps a day sustainably, were able to cut down on processed junk food and were able to develop quick, easy, and tasty homemade meal preps, etc., then you can target clients who are just getting started on that path.
Amazing content and strategies, thank you Luisa!
Hi Luisa, is your method only applicable for online business or any business as well? I am still working full time job but I also setup an engineering company.
Congrats on setting up and getting started with your engineering company! I focus on teaching about building an online business so my advice wouldn't be the most targeted or best fit for you or anyone building an engineering company.
Great job!!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video, but I have one question to the comment "he went out to get clients that best fit..." Ok, so where exactly did he go? the internet? Google? Social media? visited offices?
Really great info!
