As long as the non-stick coating is extremely cheap, easy to manufacture and has no long term health effects, this is amazing technology! We need so many more ideas like this.
Even just as long as the cost of dealing with those things is more then the cost of R&R, production, and side effect medicating/removing, it's going to be cost effective to use, but the thing about this is that it gets more efficient to use on things the larger the container, well, containing things is, due to the square cube law.
@@marcusdaloia2974 To be a nitpicker: you are correct but incorrect. It doesn't get more effective the larger the container if you are talking about it's height. The same bottle twice as high has square amount of surface. so twice the height needs 4 times the surface coating. It is efficient though when talking about volume: twice the volume is 1.41 (√2) times the surface. But then it would be the square cube law anymore. but rather the Inverse square law.....
Duuude yasss. And then also apply it to the inside of all pipes for no more clogged drains. This video is 7 yrs old. Why isn't this already on store shelves?
While this is a fantastic development, the concept is little different that the seasoning of cast iron cookware by coating the surface with lard or cooking oil. This provides a nonstick surface for cooking. I suspect this was been in use for several centuries.
This could be excellent use for Car Detailers. Will this work on car paint to basically keep the car clean ? How long the properties of this product will last ?
Want this product for non-edible items (paint, toothpaste, shampoo) . I am doubtful that the chemicals might do some side effects on me when you use it on the edible ones.
Heinz has already started selling ketchup in Liquiglide-lined bottles. The stuff's nontoxic and for people thinking "So what?" it's estimated that a million tons of syrups and liquids you can't get out of conventional bottles is wasted. Happily, my own research shows the great taste of Heinz is unaffected by this new technology. Burgers away, me hearties!
And here we see a thing that will never be used. Companies design products so that you DO waste product. Then you have to BUY MORE PRODUCT. Liquiglide is completely opposite of what companies want.
+SuicidalSheep No, they hired a guy to stay with his mouth open down there so the products wouldn't go to waste. They had to cut the wood glue dropping part, though, since the guy didn't feel so well after ingesting it.
Saw this on BBC news in Feb 2017. It appears the product has been known for sometime hence raising the question of whether it was newsworthy, and if BBC news has now changed to include advertising, while at the same time charging license fee
So what do you guys do Joel: i help purify water using solar power. Jason: I make robotics that may be able to help the military. Rakesh: I make bottles that help ketchup come out the bottle quicker.
Skipz Neo what do mean by that? If you are sarcastic please try to understand that Rakesh invention is better than others If his hydrophobic coating is edible we can create paper cups which are easy to recycle, completely use products ( food or others) which are made using lot of resources time and money without wastage and etc...
If its safe consumption, environment and does not affect the container for it to be recycled.... Im sold, i wouldn't mind the extra 10cents to get everything that i Bougth out of a container.... Without having to sit it upside down for days... Specially when in a hurry. After all most of us already pay a fee on containers for the recycling... And most of the people dont care to save empty containers and recycle to get their money back... To poor for their blood.
I don't feel that it is something new or he can say invited by him or with his colleagues at MIT. But the fact is i have saw this type of liquid almost 2 years before. Just search the web for "Nano Liquid Repellent",and you would get all the things you need to know. Not a great job this time MIT. #Nooffense#MITfan#Planningtogetadmisionastransferstudent#havemyownresearch.
kpgoog - We could solve most plastic waste issues if people would stop being so damn lazy/careless about recycling. What is really needed, is a NATION WIDE deposit incentive to encourage plastic recycling ... the current 2 or 3 state deposit incentive program (out of 50) is nowhere near enough(!)
It will be very difficult to convince manufacturers, since more waste means less use per bottle, and more revenue for them. Unless policies are made to minimise the waste...
How come the products did not glide off 100.00% completely from the containers?? Did you and your team find the reason(s) for the left over products stuck on the containers yet? How did you and your team test the remaining products, containers, space, air...blah blah blah blah... all components, and all unknowns (things that haven't been discovered yet) and all (un)known variables? and did you and your team verify conclusions and reasons (including everyone's thoughts on it)?
the only thing that people care about is when it will come to market so stop wasting time explaining how it works, people who are interested will read the patent
Hahaha, a great way to rob customers, yes it will not stick into the bottle, neither where you need it to, so in the end, you will end up using much more of the product to get the same result, so companies will earn more and the customer will loose as always. The same way, like they made chocolate covered with plastic, so it would not melt, imagine that, chocolate is supposed to melt in your mouth, now it is just a tasteless piece of junk. Some advancements are better to be left alone.

this needs to be applied to the inside of all toilets, no more cleaning
Omg YES!
how can you rest well knowing you haven't cleaned your toilets because the shit just slid off 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
@@faidee6197 if the shit slid off it is clean. anything else is purely psychological. lifes too short to be cleaning a loo !

Alright guys, it's been four years. Why isn't this on the market yet?
I want my non-stick ketchup bottle just like I used to want my MTV in stereo 😋
Hopefully this could make products more recycling-friendly without so much food residue. Love it!
I heard about this a couple years ago, glad to hear that this is still being developed and tested.
That is really cool. I would love to see this on products.
Let's hope LiquiGlide isn't toxic, cancerous, organ damaging and or deadly in possible contamination of the product inside the container.
TempestasAurum Well, he said that it can be made from some of the ingredients of whatever food is in the container...
Mattias Bengtsson Better paranoid than dead.
TempestasAurum As someone who carries 10 kg of gear every day, I agree.
TempestasAurum This is what safety testing is for. :D
Bonzo Bonzai What about them exactly?
Recycling would be easier too, worst bit is having to wash out the bottles, tins and glass containers. :o I hope this becomes a thing soon.
Read an article about this in The Economist , the company bagged a deal with Colgate
Pretty slick idea...

This idea is awesome and could impact manufacturing companies products.
I think the product price will be like this
Old ketchup : $2
New Gliding one : $5 ($2 ketchup + $3 liquiGuide coating).
More like this:
Old ketchup : $2
New Gliding one : $5 ($2 ketchup + $0.10 liquiGuide coating + $2.90 marketing).
start making this for inner toilet bowls
Wait, so if you coat glass with hydrophobic coating, soda won't fizzle out? I want this technology here and now.
what ever did happen with this🤔
I imagine the substance was toxic is some form or that it was using PFOAs
You've got to love science!!
Interesting could really help for recycling it seems.. but is it organic or synthetic in nature? assuming it’s synthetic in nature

What ever happened to this?
When can we expect to see this? This was posted in 2015. Probably been around a bit longer. Now it is 2022. So what is happening?
What if a product contains oils, will it seep through the lid if left on its side or upside down?

excellent invention! Can you apply the product to the car's paint?
most important questions are is this recyclable, non-toxic and not hurtful to planet
It took 8 years to commercialize this -_-
When is it available?
I've been unable to find the MSDS on this product. Is there one?
At which online store we can get this liquiglide in india ?
Can this be put on car windows?
Is it for sale
How much temperature it(the coating) would resist.

put it inside trash cans - no more trash bags

This is so AWESOME!
I like the way they used paint as an example of something that will "slide off very easily"
if it is safee, it would be awesome for skincare and makeup products
In every mit video there is one Indian always
How do I make my bottles all non stick?! They didn’t demonstrate that at all.
Why not just redesign the bottle to open all the way instead 🤷🏽♀️
How is this different than NeverWet or is this the same thing with a different brand?
Can I use this on my car?
kindly check for "hydrophobic" sprays on google, you may get better idea of this technique..:) good luck..

Why am I not surprised this was done by in Indian…
Coat the bottom of ships and save a huge amount of fuel. Maybe no sea life will stick and grow on boat hulls.
I'd imagine scaling up causes greater problems. Also, that really wouldn't save any significant amount of fuel imo.
It's a hydrophobic coating, not antisticking coating. Unless the substance isn't made from water, it won't keep it from sticking.
SCIENCE!!!

Should definitely be used in toothpaste seeing as it's already toxic and not meant for consumption. I am more hesitant about food products, however.
