- This shows our customers how they can test their transfer switch in the real world. You are essentially cutting the power from the utility company to the house so the generator will kick in as it should when you have a power outage.
Built my own transfer switch. Been in use for 18 months. House switches to battery powered inverter and can run that way all night until the sun hits the solar panels. Generator only cuts on if it's raining or really cloudy. Generator charges batteries in case they are low.
Very helpful, thanks!!
It's amazing that we still haven't figured out a better way to label our breakers. All of mine have looked sloppy as hell. It's not easy to write on panel and there's really not ample room. Maybe it should be built like hanging file folders where you can fold a little tab in.
Another new whole house generator owner has the same question re: To simulate a utility power outage & force the Generac generator to turn ON, is it only necessary to flip the ATS switch OR also switch to OFF the double circuit breaker in the main service panel?
you only need to switch the breaker in the ATS. The double breaker he showed in the house panel is for a different kind of generator hook up (one that only runs a few essential circuits). If you have the whole house gen, just flip the breaker in the ATS.
ONLY THE TRANSFER PANEL - actually not recommended to touch the main house breaker sometimes depending on their age they will not reset!
Did you flick the double breaker in the main panel box or just the one in the generac panel?
Generac panel only
What about that thumb?
And it’s called “Load Testing”
Did he ever answer?
OMG, your network cabling is a rats nest. How embarrassing. Oh, great video btw. LOL.
