This RC Truck Goes Wherever It Wants! - Tamiya Konghead 6x6 | RC Driver

- There are some RC machines available where you just take one look at them and say “I have to have that.” The Tamiya Konghead 6x6 RC Truck is one of those machines. It’s slated as a 1/18-scale truck, but when this full build up kit is assembled, it looks more like a 1/10-scale machine. The big “wow” however is it’s 6x6 drivetrain! Yes, six wheels under power to churn and grind the terrain. The truck has a unique look with it’s chassis/ driveline combo making up the center section and independant suspension on all six wheels to damp the ride as it blasts through anything in your way. Topping it off is a cool semi-truck style body that will need to be painted and decaled so if you pick up this kit, make certain you grab some paint along with the electronics such as radio, servo, speed control and battery. In this review/ action video, we’ll go over the Tamiya Konghead’s features, show it in action and give you our final thoughts on the G6-01 platform.

Should more companies offer a 6x6? The Tamiya Konghead looks pretty cool!!
RCDriver_Online Would like to see Teknos 1/8 Scale take of a 6x6!
Now that's an idea! A race bred 6x6, could be cool!
RCDriver_Online This is nice build love the blue and chrome. I liked the way it drove almost tank like looks solid. Good work Greg!!
Yes they should!! Check out my 6x6 Traxxas Summit. It goes where ever it wants
traxxas made one, you should do that!!!
I remember when Tamiya and Kyosho was the kings of RC. They seem to be stuck in the 90's. They still have style tho. Very cool looking rig.
The 90s IS their marketing scheme now. All they need is nostalgia and over 40 old dudes that remember the past....with an insanely overpowered new brushless setup
Yup. All nostalgia sales. Tamiya is resting on their laurels, and have not done anything innovative or exciting for 40+ years. Plus their products are so overpriced for what they offer.
That thing looks rad!!
You do a great job with your videos and reviews. Very professional and pleasant to watch and hear. Thank you!
Very helpful video thanks. I've finished mine now and I've put a 3500kv brushless set in with a 2S battery and it is quick enough to do jumps. It's good fun and doesn't seem like too much power for it to handle although it can tip over if you go mad in the corners. The acceleration is very good but it still only tops out at 20 mph with the standard 18t pinion supplied in the kit so don't be worried about it being overpowered with this kind of motor setup (so long as you used ball bearings). I've gone for oil shocks too, mainly because those friction ones seem to get clogged up with dust.
Full bearings and oil shocks will be nice on it. I do like it
It's cool what Tamiya will come up with.
That looks like a lot of fun
Cool vid with your boys!! My son and I are working on a trail course in our yard. Love all the info u show allways leaning something new👍
I can't wait to get my first Tamiya kit and now I want this one lol.
just looks cool to me
Very good!!
Hey Greg another great video your channel is quickly becoming my favourite rc channel on youtube. That being said id love to see a video of a 1/14 tamiya semi thats my next build, so any unboxing, build or review would be awesome!
Great Guest appearance by dj medic on the 1's and 2's.
Love the video
I bought one. I have the kit, just waiting on few other bits, I painted the body red. Fitting it up for 4ws. Metal bearings, sport tuned motor and a 20t pinion. I have a feeling this truck could be as popular as the lunchbox.
Sounds like you're on the right track with your build. I think you're right, it could be another popular machine from Tamiya.
The shocks & tires look just like the ones that come with the lunch box.
AWESOME! Thanks for the video. Well done on this build! This thing is a BEAST and it really has a compact and elegant design when you consider everything that is going on. I LOVE thaT Tamiya was not afraid to give us something like this. Are you considering the rear wheel steering as part of your future upgrades to this kit?
Yes tamiya konghead 6x6
Rc4wd beast 2 owns this thing
❤. What is your recommendation for a good brushed motor for your truck? I’m curious about what turns & winds would be best?
Thanks for your video!
Matteo did a review on this Tamiya rc as well.
Can you leave some cogs out and do a rear 4wd with a 550 motor?
Which motor would you recommend, sport tuned or torque tuned? I have a tamiya Volvo A60H, same chassis, and want to give it more umpf.
It looks good with lid on and runs good but it looks like a toy rc when lids off
I have one i put four wheel steering in mine big diff in turning
3s brushless test? 😏
What type of servo you used for your konghead?
So do u keep all thez cars?
can you please do a video on how to protect your rc body. like from rollovers.
Moto McGee don't roll over pretty much the only thing or if you make a tall roll bar
I just one of these ....brand new new unused original!!!
Do you think a Traxxas 550 can motor work in this? I think the 12turn with 2s lipo would be nice.
yeah sure, why not?
I wish they'd put more futuristic-looking bodies on them.
It's no clod buster.
Hopefully can run brushless
Just bought it for my 3 year old 😆
Built this at school and launched it down a hugeee hill and it wasn’t even scratched
Couldn’t hear the truck over the music
It’s slow because it has a silver can motor in it
I’m surprised you didn’t drive it with a LIPO battery
Put another wheel on a summit I think it will climb better
It would look good with smaller wheels.
It would also go faster with a full bearing setup
Why are these built so cheaply but cost alot
Quality costs and these are tamiya the very best. Nolthing cheaply built here.My upgraded wild willy 2 is plastic and with add ons weighs almost 5kg. It is unbreakable.
Too bad if wasn't a 6x6x6 Clodbuster. 3 motors, the works.
Does anyone else think that the chassis looks cheap
Alexk 4219 yes
It may look cheap, but from my experience with Tamiya kits they are all very well engineered and use very high quality plastics so you’ll find that these are very durable. That being said they haven’t designed this with the mindset of doing the kind of jumps you’d do with an Xmaxx.
That's because it is. No harm in that though, not everyone needs the highest performance 500$ RC car...
I noticed that when he built the grasshopper too it looks like the Tamiya kits are from Walmart when you take the body off them.
@@kain0m and if it had replaceable and upgradable parts then it's not a toy grade, and this kit it like 200$ name one toy grade wall Mart rc that costs anywhere near that lol, so by your definition any traxxas brushed xl-5 model is toy grade.
It looks like it came from toys are us
The shocks did nothing
Coolish.... But no thanks on this
Please get the comercials out😣
looks like toy grade shocks and such. why is tamiya so expensive. they use phillips heads and bearly toy grade. such an obsolite and dated design. its a cool truck but the thing is bearly above toygrade.
810th
Turd its so cheap made I wouldnt even use it in public soory but its true from my eyes
Waste of momey to me.. ots ugly and expensive.. clod buster or txt are good or mxt from mst..
nice
