What's great about these old college films is when the announcers go through the lineup and feature some guy on defense that went on to . . . no NFL career and directly beside that dude is someone who had a fantastic career. Saw it on both sides: Darelle Revis on Pitt and Eric Weddle on Utah.
You’re right about the guy next to Eric Weddle - he did not go on to the NFL. But he did get picked up as a GA for Utah and is now currently their Defensive Coordinator. Quinton Ganther from this game is also now the Running Backs coach. A couple of dogs in the NFL, and a couple teaching the next generation. It was a good squad.
I'm so glad to have access to this footage. I would love to see a compilation of things the national announcers were saying about us in 2004 and 2008. For example, I seem to remember the announcers predicting if Utah ever played in a P5 conference against real teams like USC we would never have a winning season again. I also remember several announcers basically saying Alabama wouldn't even have to show up on the field and they would win because it would basically be like playing a High School team for them because Alabama wouldn't recruit Utah's best seniors over the amazing High School recruits they get each year because those High School recruits supposedly outclass our best seniors. I would love to see these comments followed by clips from the Sugar Bowl and perhaps games like the game we had today against USC to become the PAC-12 Champions for the second year in a row.
This was some bs having to play Pitt. The utes would've won the natty had given the chance. They sent 9 players to the NFL that year including the#1 overall pick and a future hof in weddle on d. The spread offense was so new. No one was going to stop them from scoring.. what a joke. Same thing in 2008.. they wrecked bama a team that was number 1 for 7 weeks until they lost to the gators in the sec championship.
This was another reason why the BCS sucked. How and why they didnt have a 2nd matchup of undefeated teams between Utah and Auburn in this particular season. It would have had great ratings with a awesome consolation prize.
it's not the BCS it's the bowl administrators, they invited VT as the SEC Champ gets an auto bid into the Sugar Bowl, and i don't know if the sugar bowl committee would have chosen a Non-BCS AQ at the time, that's why most Non-BCS AQ teams have always went into the Fiesta Bowl (Boise State,Utah,TCU). They've always fared with the bigger conference champions. The BCS system just decides which higher ranked teams can get into those bowl games.

I love that also. I saw a game where they featured some no name next to Calvin Johnson

Jesus Christ, the ref in the white hat. At least pretend you want to be doing the Fiesta Bowl. You know you're supposed to speak, right?
