I won 2 boxes on my first try today with an incredible UG pool with Ghalta, Koma, Sphinx, the rare hydra and some other great stuff. What a day. GL on your pools and games!
I gotta be honest, Foundations has been so bad that I kind of stopped watching the Foundations videos. Still dropping the Thumbs Up cause Paul is awesome.
You influenced me into doing this event when I planned to pass on it, due to not really vibing with Foundations limited format. 6-0 with a *GREAT* G/W +1/+1 counters deck, got 2 boxes! Thanks for the insights as always, love the content, and just subbed to the Patreon!
I think the idea was that they would bounce both creatures and with that on the stack they trigger zimone, thus you take lethal from the flyer. But they got hit with the fancy play syndrome. If they had just bounced their other creature they would've been fine @@haumph
They could've also triggered Zimone first. I guess they didn't realize that Arena doesn't let you respond to your own spells unless you have full control on.
Tried this for the first time today, went 4-2 with the first pool, but a clean 6-0 on a second attempt, had a really sweet dimir pool with nine-lives cat + ravenous amulet being the highlight value engine and a surprising damage finisher in the matches
The quality of my opponents in these events will likely be generally lower than my daily draft videos as I frequently get paired against high mythic players in them.
As a new player it's super neat to see season MTG vets crushing new players and winning cards they probably don't need. I got my butt kicked twice, I don't seem to have any chance of winning.
I won this event with a combo pool. I had 2 raise the pasts, a slagstorm and the new blood artist. So I played Boros with a slight black splash for burglar rat, the sacrifice Zombia and blood artist, but really I just tried to loot those cards away with Thrill of Possibilities and hope slagstorm and helpful hunters keep me alive. Honestly I should have lost my 5-1 game, but my opponent miscounted. The other games were dope though
the last game was very unfortunate, 3 or 4 draws to get a forest and win. very well done mate, the pool was simply garbage and break even it was a huge result btw
Yeah idk how Paul gets these opponenets sometimes lol. Like I have to face bomb after bomb in my first 2 games so I cant even get any gems and here you have opponents losing games seemingly on purpose its insane. First the first guy not playing his creature to make his Skynight Squire lethal and then that Run Away Together play on Zimone...
I just started a sealed red/black with Alesha.. looks pretty decent but everyone knows how the shuffler is so fingers crossed.. maybe I should wait a while until your run is done so I don’t run into you in matchmaking 😂
Sheesh that first opponent punted badly! EDIT: And the third even a worse punt, sheesh! EDIT2: And the sixth topped it off, sheesh! What a load of punters!
did 8 runs and won 4 of them. 2 of my pools were very mediocre. Realized i should quit while I'm ahead and didn't put more money into it. Very high variance. I wish i took a screenshot, but my favorite deck was a 3 hawk 3 goldvein pick black white deck with a random chandra.
I love your content! Learning a lot! When you’re in the sealed deck viewer, how do you split the cards up by color and such? I know t:cr splits up creatures and spells.
@@haumphthank you!! Damn, I was searching for the shortcut command and couldn’t find it. Now I know why! 😂. Maybe you should send Wizards a suggestion and get that command added!
I’m not particularly experienced, but for the sake of learning how to play the game better, do you think your deck would have performed better with one more forest and one fewer plains? Seems like you had more white cards overall, but the third forest required on overrun just seems to call for it. Thanks for sharing! I’m learning a lot.
I was going to win. i had ghalta in hand and attacked into a bad board to clear as many blockers as possible. Only problem is I lost so many creatures I couldnt cast the ghaltas! I totally forgot! What is wrong with me?!!?
It looked pretty weak. I'm not very high on dwynen's elite. With how poor my pool was I thought the most aggressive proactive deck was ideal. The problem was I had too many weak/filler level cards in r/w.

3 tries, 4 wins combined lmao
gz!
:(

Awesome job recognizing your strongest cards, you went from heading to 0-2 to clawing up wins! Very impressive!
Yes thanks! If only we could lock it up!
He started 1-1, right?

Congratulations on the boxes and welcome to the Patreon!
As the turns went by, it was impressive watching you carve out the right board-state to win against decks you had no right beating.
Yeah we had some close ones for sure. Tried my best to put myself in positions to win but came up a tiny bit short
That game against Zimone was something else... wtf were they even doing lol
IDK!
Paid actor lol

Thanks for another great video! Really made some lemonade out of those lemons all considered.
Yeah it wasn't the best pool and we tried our best!
Getting that finish with that deck was really impressive, Paul.
Thanks! Woulda been nice to win more boxes though

Nice work!
I had so much hope you were coming back to win it out! Well played anyhow
Yeah definitely got my dreams crushed but happy to get my gems back!
Felt like there were an inordinate amount of questionable plays from the opponents this time.
The quality of my opponents in these events will likely be generally lower than my daily draft videos as I frequently get paired against high mythic players in them.
Thanks for vid! and well done on Limited Resources
thank you!
26:35 ive definitely never done that before loooool nope never in my life hahaha
Maybe the best magic video I’ve watch in years!
wow!
Holy punting opponents, Batman!
oh yea
On your last game, even had you drawn a forest, you would have died to their black enchantment because you had no card left to discard to it.
Ohh you're absolutely right!
As a new player it's super neat to see season MTG vets crushing new players and winning cards they probably don't need. I got my butt kicked twice, I don't seem to have any chance of winning.
sorry
@@haumph it's all good, I learned a lot watching you play.
I actually like this format. Seems to reward solid deck building and sequencing.
It's okay. The issue is that some sealed decks are wildly unplayable due to the relatively powered down commons.
@haumph Was a strong showing, considering the relatively weak pull. Well played, and entertaining as always.
Such a nail biter, overrun is goated but that GGG is rough!
A humble offering for the almighty algorithm.

I have to say, sealed is kind of fun for a one of intermezzo, but booster draft is just much more interesting.

thanks!
U rarely have a game where u mana screw or flood, all ur games look very fluid, thats some incredible good run
believe it or not, i get mana screwed and flooded just as often as you do
He's got a fever. And the only prescription is...

I mean boxes.
somebody gets it

4 for 8 is insane
@@haumph especially after i started 0-3 in runs lol!

Editing Magic. AKA i pause the video and manually sort it myself to make it nicer for all of you :)

Hi Paul, love your content for some reason i have performed horrible in foundations any advices for draft on this set?
that was soo lucky game 1,2,3 and 5 were absurdly easy
Opponent 1 not playing creature first for lethal attack really highlights the difference bad plays can make. Literally lost him the game.

I think the manabase was fine the way that it was.
@ Thanks again for the great commentary. I hope to see you win several more boxes!
Won on my 3rd try. Curve > Good cards
both are good
Curve isn't quite as crucial in sealed, it tends to be slightly slower. But yeah curve is still important. But also, bombs matter lol
I was going to win. i had ghalta in hand and attacked into a bad board to clear as many blockers as possible. Only problem is I lost so many creatures I couldnt cast the ghaltas! I totally forgot! What is wrong with me?!!?
@4:10 Hey Paul, what keys did you press to organize your pool by color?
I manually separated them but edited that process out. I wish there was an easier way to sort
@ ahh dang 😂, i thought maybe it was a key-command in MTGA. They should definitely put that in.
Not enough removal in any of the 5 colors. I would have gone Balmor here trying to kill my opponents before they can play bombs.
That was the thought process for r/w and g/w to be fair
@haumph Yup, adding overrun to get trample instead worked just as well.
Archmage of runes is a good card
Not without instants and sorceries
yep
@@tylerblalack6684still a good card.
@Tuturial464 ive trophied with it a couple times too. He didn't have any instants and sorceries other than claws and run away together. So it's a 3/6
Having a best-of-1 format for this event is just sad. 5k gems and actual product on the line and they just maximize the RNG.
Can you confirm that person is allowed to win more than once?
I thought from the start the green white deck was the strongest- why was he so down on it to begin with?
It looked pretty weak. I'm not very high on dwynen's elite. With how poor my pool was I thought the most aggressive proactive deck was ideal. The problem was I had too many weak/filler level cards in r/w.
@@haumph hindsight is 20/20- nice work adapting to what you were seeing
I’m guessing you have like 200 unopened packs. There’s 0% chance you haven’t opened storm or wave if you opened all your packs.
Can confirm my packs have not been opened
Im convinced. Paid actors lmao
Paid actors, renumerated thespians, etc. etc.
This was a masterclass in scrounging great results from a mediocre pool. Great stuff 😊
thanks!
