Your title is a statement, but should be a question. I was expecting an answer. Instead I wasted 4 minutes that I could have been using to look elsewhere.
so i am supposed to answer the question? basically -- i am presenting user interface and functionality issues with the software --- in general -- finale has responded to me with workarounds --- and i am planning on providing those to the general public --- but finale gets paid to do that -- not me. finale "should" be using appropriate titles for its user documentation -- i am exposing that "should" here -- if we can't figure out how to do things using the documentation -- then the documentation isn't good enough. well, either the software isn't good enough, or the documentation isn't good enough -- and if the procedures are buried or counter-intuitive -- then that needs to be improved as well. what you could do -- is send this video to finale tech support and say "hey yeah i'm having this issue too."
Turns out you're asking how to do this, but the title makes it looks like you're going to tell us how. It is possible; you want to select that measure, then select staff style, the force hide staff (cutaway).
yeah, i guess the title could be better, but i kind of reached for what i wished finale would do -- use proper naming conventions for procedures that we need -- and make the user procedures quick, easy, and convenient. you're right though, the title should be -- "uhh i can't do this..." or "how do i do X" something along those lines.
Hide staff lines, stave lines but show notes and rests (for selected measure(s) only): 1. Staff Tool/Select measure/Staff menu/Edit Staff Attributes/Staff: 0-Line with full barline This will hide ALL the staffs on the page. To Show the rest of them: 2. Staff Tool/Select all the other measures/Staff menu/Apply Staff Style/09 Standard Five Line Staff eg:
There always seems to be a way in Finale, even if you have to go round the houses.. I try to keep notes of everything I learn to do so I can refer to it next time. It's not the most intuitive program but it is very powerful. I write drum charts and drum lessons where a lot of customizing is necessary. I really enjoy working in Finale!
i hear u and understand that what we need to get done -- is possible -- in Finale. i just wish we were not confronted with completely ridiculous jargon like "measure stacks." also, user interface design is not that hard, you just need to listen to your user base. i simply can't imagine running a software company and having such bad user procedures. it blows my mind. it blows my mind just how bad the procedures are and it makes me wonder how it's even possible for them to be so bad. here: change the page size. are they out of their minds? seriously? that's supposed to be something people who work on the software are satisfied with? like they can sleep comfortably at night? i don't get it. where is their staff that really cares about others?
