An antagonist so messed up and so unforgivable but one that somehow doesn’t even feel like a villain,at least not in the traditional sense. Bondrewd is just a whole different beast of a character!
I like this way of putting it more than the people that just say, "He's not actually a bad dad." Like yes, he was an awful dad, but not in the traditional way.
I feel like thats his charisma. Rationally you know hes an unforgivable despicable individual, yet he has such charisma that this fact slips from your mind

The interesting thing is, he isn't doing something evil, if you read some science literature for physiology, scientists in real life doing basically same or worse things for experiments. In made in abyss universe there is clear difference between humans and animals, so thats why he need to experiment especially on them. So, basically he just a normal scientist, and pretty good one at that
Bonedrewd is my favorite villain I've seen. He's loving yet cold, selfless but also one of the most selfish. Someone who's endeavors may very likely save humanity yet he's destroyed the humanity of many people to get to that point. Bonedrewd is a perfect villain
The thing i love about bondrewd is that there's a unique sense of selflessness to his actions, like you'd be sure he'd do it all to himself if it was the best course of action towards his goals. (and he basically did sacrifice himself if i remember the lore correctly)
Yeah, he used his original self to create his whistle, and used his multiple bodies as the first test subjects. Unfortunately, the abyss didn't like him trying to cheat the system.. And that's when he turned elsewhere.

The thing that separates most villains from Bondrewd is that he isn’t inherently a hypocrite. He will and has sacrificed everything, including himself to see his goals through to the end. He might be insane and devoid of morals, but he isn’t actually evil.
Also the fact that he is the only explorer who has stepped foot into the sixth layer and is still able to "return" to the surface and interact with the city.
If I recall he is obsessed with staving off a cataclysm that is supposed to happen every few centuries. It may have originally been what made him so desperate that he was willing to sacrifice everything to keep residing in the abyss. We don’t know, but perhaps he was once a much kinder person who was forced to become a monster to save everyone. An anti-villain if you will.

definitely one of the cruelest and evilest characters I've ever seen, but to me his design and notsofuckedup character morals completely outshine almost every other villain I've ever seen, up there with bill cipher and I say that as someone who semi grew up with gravity falls and am almost psychotically obsessed with it. even his theme has a hard ass name and goes so fucking hard "the rumble of scientific triumph" is just....OOH, GOD I can't express how much I love it
You could say he is up there with the devil himself. His selflessness is seen as a selfish action. Lucifer wanted to save everyone to salvation without the need of suffering. But we do not grow as people without suffering.
