I'm concerned about Caroline at this point. The lingering head & neck stuff is making her hesitant on contact playing. Those easy misses at the rim can't happen.
This was a hard one to stomach. It was a little disappointing. It’s at point where we have to take it a game at time now even going into the tournaments. Can’t try to look too far into the future and predict the outcome because we never know. When both teams get on the floor one wins and one loses no matter the record, the rankings or even the history. All that matters is the score. Their record will be 0-0 just like everyone else’s come march. Yes we use these games as projections and predictions of how things may play out later on but it’s just that, projections and predictions. they may come true and they may not. I’m gonna continue to stick by this team and support them. A few things I see that needs to happen is 1. They have to get stronger down low. Can’t be weak in the post. Rebound, rebound. Rebound. 2. Have to limit turnovers. They average like 17 a game. That’s a a lot. The margin for error is 0 at this point in the season and going forward. 3. Lou cannot be the offense. She needs help. Other players have to step up. We all know that these teams are going to face guard her and shut her down as best as they can. so offense as to come from somewhere else. 4. Even if the bench doesn’t play they need to bring energy and excitement on the sideline. They can help fuel this team. 5. Each and every player has to play smart, maximize their minutes and communicate on that court. 6. They have to play more physical. No more weak, cry baby ball. Fight through the contact and play. Get and 1s. Get to the free throw. Force teams to foul. 7. Last but not least, their will to win has to be greater than their fatigue. y’all got this ladies. I believe in y’all. I want to see y’all prove the doubters wrong. It has to be a team effort though. From the players and especially the coaches. The coaches need to be on their P’s and Q’s seriously. They can’t slack off on this team simply because of injuries and because they may not be like past teams . They have to give it their all as well. just one game at time y’all. One game at a time. I never thanked you before I've been a UConn fan since the 90's, However I played for St. John's 76-80'😁, but last night they were the enemy 🤣we where all socked...Two things happened St. John's played defense and out rebound them... It was an awesome game...UConn will win the Big East Tourney and will be a 1 seed in the NCAA. Yes they are short handed, but the Big Ten & Pac 12 both have 6 ranked good teams then there's SC & LSU of the SEC, The ACC has 5 ranked teams...So UConn will have to dig deep. It will be a very exciting Tournament.
This team just looks mentally tired and that throws off skills like shooting and passing and teamwork. I can't believe they called the foul on Aubrey when she fell down and then had the SJ fall on her. That was crazy. It's amazing how other teams beat up UConn and then when UConn taps another player it's an egregious foul. Missing shots was the big difference in the game. UConn got looks and couldn't make them.
Think about this: If UConn played their bench, they would make dumb mistakes. However, if they play their starters 40 minutes a game, they will make sloppy, careless mistakes because they are tired. Pick your poison. The starters making mistakes because of fatigue will not help in the long run, but the bench making mistakes could be learning opportunities for the future. UConn should have been playing their bench significantly more minutes over the last month. It would have been frustrating, and they may have lost some games because of it, but long term, the team would have been in a better place. I fear it's too late now. This team is fatigued.
Ive been saying since November to play the bench. I do not believe for a second that it has/had anything to do with not doing well in practice but everything to do with Geno being stubborn with what he wants out of his Team when it comes to giving the paying fans good Uconn Basketball. Amari and Ayanna are both good players and Amari is actually a very good shooter. For some reason neither have been coached to be an offensive threat.
They should play the bench to get them prepared for tournament play…if there’s any one in foul trouble then you have play the bench and if they are not ready then that’s not a good thing!
Damn. Ducharme was horrible. 1-11 including that airball near the rim in the 4th. Edwards hasn't played to her standard in like 6 or 7 games not counting South Carolina. All of a sudden she can't catch or hold on to the ball. That leaves Lou now as the solely most consistent player this year. Unrelated but did anyone notice how Peeples played as if she was drying her nails or something 😂?
A Tribe Called Judah, did you watch the gane or just check the box score? Caroline got lose, caught the ball, faked one defender out of her bra, and then, went up for an easy lay-up, but got stuffed from behind several times. It's not that she shot badly in the first half, it's that St. John's knows she likes to sneak in for bunnies & they had a kangaroo waiting for her. She'll figure out what to do next time. That said, defenses are sagging into the middle to stop the "bunny hop" and they are getting back quicker to stop the fast break. Hope Azzi gets better soon because she has the jumper that will force any defense to stop cheating & play honest.

St Johns shot well and stymied the pathetic UCONN offense. Any team coming to play UCONN should note that all they need to do is attack the basket - drive the paint. Usually, Caroline takes about 3-4 games to get her mojo going & I believe she will, but UConn needs Azzi Fudd to come back & the board-banging bunnies need Amari Dewberry to play basketball on the D1 Level. It is not them finding a way to win, it is the competition being even worse than them. Edwards hasn't been able to even catch the ball for games. Everyone travels like 12 yearOlds. I have watched every game for the last 5 years. Now the teams key on the only real player out there, Senechal, and then there is nothing. If Fudd doesn't come back soon, good night to this team. If Lopez Senachal wasn't there, they would have over 10 loses easy. Sorry but their fundamentals stink. How Geno sleeps is beyond me. I am done, 36 minutes to go.

She is always moving, goes to the basket well etc. But Dorka has a vertical leap of 4 inches, looses tips, has one move the layup spin to her left. Lou is a great player, clutch, confident, doesn't get down on herself etc. But these girls are drafted by uconn and still can't catch, not walk, etc. How do you shoot so many air balls at this level. A mediocre high school boys team would beat them by 40.
Ok, this is going to be long. An engine will rev to 8000 rpm if its is set up right. It will pull good power right.up to that number all day until the valve springs begin to fatigue. They loose their resilience and over a certain speed will lie flat and not go any faster. You can free wheel it faster but it won't have any power. These girls are like that engine. They are running past their red line and are past their abilities. You can keep in the race if you keep the engine under the limit of the fatigue in the springs. It will put out normal power right through it and can quite possibly outlast a lot of competition. continuing a full court press with a tired team isn't working. It is an old habit that works with most of the UCONN years but this year is an exception. They are short of players, two of which are the best in the country, and when are under pressure bring the ball up looking for Paige to be there to pace them in the right direction. You've got to run with what works. What works now, and not force them into being a team they aren't physically able to be. Bring it up, set up the play, then set the defense on their tails with the burst of energy and direction that would be possible with that approach. No one will have prepared for UCONN being deliberate. They'll have that.
I notice how easily uconn beat these teams when paige is playing. Mostly one sided. On absence of her the team plays neck to neck in all matches. This proves how a player makes the team great. We miss hr action and IQ very much. But keep on learnig. Coach Geno clearly in frustration. What can he do when his top cards r in bench.

Later in the year after she had sat a long time, the rest of the team picked up and when she joined them they went into high gear TOGETHER to the championship. It takes a team.
Paige is a scrub that can't play defense and get hurt all the time. Played worse in 2022 than her freshman. And only 3.9 assists for a guard that has the ball all the time means she ain't a team player.
The worst part is that they played all of these teams already this season and beat them EASILY. Idk what happened but ever since the usc game they have been off their game. Not looking good for the tourney or even the big East tourney
Why play in Hartford win you can play in Storrs? Turning point of the game when Ducharme was inserted into the game in the 2nd half. Never seen a UConn miss the majority of their shots, short. I still miss Mo Jeff.

Hey, don't forget to blame St Johns for grabbing and bruising Lou Lopez and the refs cheating UCONN out of calls...that was the #1 excuse used so effectively to explain the loss to #1 ranked South Carolina; not that South Carolina simply is a far better team. Of course, that excuse was immediately disproved the very next game when UCONN lost to unranked Marquette. Now we've lost to unranked St Johns. Not our fault though...the refs cheated us. Spread the word!

UCONN is not better than Stanford, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Washington State, UCLA, or USC - all 7 of those teams are solidly in the NCAA playoff bracket and would beat UCONN on an NCAA playoff neutral court. UCONN would be no better than middle-of-the-pack in the PAC-12.
