I have found that when you sacrifice time to spend with the Lord, He always gives back 10 fold. If you spend time with him, He will provide time for @Family, @Health, @Work and @Friends. He doesn't generate more time in your day, but I'm always amazed at how the interruptions and distractions seem to lessen and scheduled activities become more harmonized. You just can't out give God. The Law of Reciprocity includes the use of our time. - "Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38 (ESV)

I will be dating myself a bit here....but when I was a kid the gas cookstoves had pilot lights. Ours was in the center of the stove, between all four burners. You had to maintain it; if it wasn't lit the burners wouldn't work. That's how I think of spirituality/my faith. It should be in the center, and if it is not well cared for none of the four burners work the way they should.

With chronic illness, my only burners have been health and family. I tend to feel guilty I'm not working or going to school like others in their 20s. This was validating! It also helps me to think of this time of extra focus on my health as "sharpening the saw" so I can more effectively do school/work/etc. later. This is the season for preparing for a better future and I don't need to feel guilty for not doing everything now. Thank you for your videos! 😊💗 I also love thinking as Jesus and spirituality as the common thread through everything!

Such a great analogy! For me, I don’t see any reason we can’t overlap our burners. I can go on a walk or ride bikes with my kiddos and consider it health and family. Invite another family and it’s friends too! I think if we talk about the beauty we see around us and God’s hand in our life while doing those activities get can be spiritual too. That’s just one example. But for me, I like to touch all of those areas of my life daily, even if it’s just a a few minutes. And I’ve noticed the benefit of small actions accruing and compounding positively over time.

I think our Spiritual Life isn’t a burner - it’s the fuel. When our relationship with God falls apart, it’s as if the gas line or electrical cord is partially blocked and we don’t have enough fuel to do anything. But when God is fueling our family relationships or our work lives, friendships or physical/mental health - that’s when truly amazing things happen!

So much has changed in the last 12months I think we've all had to readjust our lives dramatically .. Im homeschooling, something I never wanted to do or imagined doing and at times feel a little overwhelmed but it is what it is and have had to adapt .. I found for us at least its defining roles and doing what we can to make it easier on each other eg. hubby works, I dont so I take care of 90% of the house stuff and he pitches in on the weekends to give me a break .. Health, family and friends is combined and we do more outdoor activities, we've also decided that Sunday is family day and in the afternoon everything stops and we make popcorn and watch a movie together or we play a board game etc ... Decluttering and minimizing has helped a lot because now I am able to keep up with the house stuff, also setting up a weekly schedule and doing an area a day instead of trying to do everything in a day .. also simplified dinners by utilizing the instant pot and crockpot more, Im making a Mississippi roast today and it literally took 2-3 minutes to set up, decided to make a baked potatoes to go with, which takes a couple minutes to wash and set up instead of peeling and mashing etc ... I think sometimes we over think things and make it into something much bigger then it has to be, Ive always been one of those that has grand plans and then stress for days but simplifying has helped, still learning and adjusting .. Im really starting to take the quote 'progress over perfection' to heart and its making a big difference in my life ..

Somewhere along the way, (in this country, in particular), being a "stay-at-home mom" became a denigrating term. "I don't work." -- HUH? The raising of the family and the keeping of the home is of UTMOST importance -- especially raising the children to be God-fearing Christians.
      Where did we go wrong?
Motherhood has become highly underrated, and that's a shame.
We must remember that Mother's Day -- and Father's Day -- should be EVERY day. Tu, 04/13/2021

I also think some of these burners depend on your season of life. I am retired so the work burner isn’t an issue any more, but the family and health burners have taken on greater significance. If anything has replaced the work burner it’s frugal living because of less resources. I always try to remember the verse, “moderation in all things.”

I never thought of why the curtain was torn in the temple. I assumed it was to demonstrate the gravity of Jesus dying on the cross. Similarly to when people tore their clothes when they were angry or in anguish. Once you said it, it made so much sense. We all have access to the presence of God now. The curtain was torn to allow us in to relationship with God. Thank you for showing this to me. Love you both! God bless.

I think that the Lord always gives me enough time to do everything I am supposed to do (including resting/recreation). If I don't have time to do something I'm supposed to do, it means I've spent that time doing something I wasn't supposed to do. I can't imagine Jesus telling someone, "Sorry, I didn't have time." I see these as something that I reevaluate monthly or every other month.🤔At the beginning of the pandemic I had to scramble to work from home and also had COVID-19 , so obviously Health and Work took priority in trying to recover and get situated in a very unpredictable time. Since we were all quarantining, my family was in a different state and I couldn't see my friends, I didn't feel guilty turning down those burners. Also my family and friends were also worried about everyone’s health and if people’s jobs were secure. My priorities and their priorities were aligned because they care about me. ❤️😄Now that Work is situated and my Health has been able to remain a priority, I have rotated in friends and family, as I have been able to see them virtually or in person. 🤗❤️✝️✨🙌🙏

So I cut right back on all spending and cut my hours to 16 hours a week.
It's the best thing I could of done, this time has been so important to me and my son.
I though I'd go back to full time when he started work, however now I'm going to stick with part time and home ed.

Doing this also have me time to cook from scratch which is cheaper and healthier.

One also has to consider how they spend their time. If a person chooses to be on social media, tv, Netflix etc an hour or more a day or binges for 4 hours on a Friday night then the choice of the entertainment burner or escapism burner is up for that hour. A person’s perception of “busy” is relative to their mindset. Busy doing what? There is often a level of excuses... I have kids so “I can’t or don’t have time to workout, my house can’t be clean etc. Yes, maybe you can’t work out or clean your house in 2 hour chunks, but it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

I'm only 6 min into this video but the problem that I'm seeing is that in America our entire lives are expected to revolve around work. Most of us spend 12 hours a day or MORE on work and only get 3-4 hours a day for ourselves and the other three "burners" have to be squeezed into that. The solution isn't to focus all of our time on "work" but to find a way to lessen the amount of time we spend working while still netting the same financial support for ourselves. THAT seems like a sustainable solution over just work>pay bills> die system we have right now.

  • @margaretvillalpando7722

Sometimes our friends need us more than other times and vice versa. Sometimes our family has health issues so they need us more than normal - extended family is in this category too. I've been retired for about 15 months but my mom has been needing me more than she has before during that time frame. Also, other family & friends have needed me. Yes some of this is not under our control. Sometimes we just learn to roll with stuff. My goal was to exercise everyday after retirement but that has not happened due to these other priorities that I have mentioned plus others. But I have exercised much more than I did before when I was working. So basically we just do the best we can and adjust when necessary. This is good advice basically and it gets us thinking about things but it's hard to delete one category totally - maybe cut down as you said.

I get it with the health, friends, and family, but the work category....not sure what to put there because not only is there the outside, paycheck work, but also the multitude of housework and chores. Seems like that category has a double debit.

    • @RadishTheFool
      @RadishTheFool 3 года назад

Yeah, those are the biggest drains that provide the least fulfilment for me. Depending on so many things, I think housework and chores can fall under work and/or family. For example, for someone working outside the house for most of the day, they can be put under family. And for someone mostly working from home taking care of the family, they could be counted towards work.

For me, Health needs to be put on top. I can’t be there for others if I don’t make some room for me. The puppies could be part of health. Walk the dogs. This is a reminder for me to prioritize. I have two little dogs that would love to walk with me. I can pray while I walk and appreciate Gods goodness around me. Thanks for this.

Diana you have a wonderful way of explaining the scriptures and what we sometimes don’t see such as the veil of the temple. I believe the process and privilege of prayer is the greatest tool we can teach our children because when we have an ongoing relationship with God nothing is impossible. Not that everything will be perfect but challenges will be manageable in the Lords time and way. Although I agree that spiritually is in all four burners. We were spiritual beings first. Thanks for the insights.

As Catholics we carry the presence of the Lord by our baptism. I feel like we need to remember we are all made for a unique purpose and no one can do or be who we are in this world. If the burners are up, we need to look to see where we are turning them up or where someone else has control of our knobs. We need to try our best only and you can’t be good at everything at all times. It is ok to let something go and reset your priorities and boundaries. It is also good to be honest about them with your family. Enlist support of family and friends and when your burners are mellow and your “bandwidth” is freely flowing be sure to give back and be a blessing for others!

Having being brought up catholic I challenge you to look at some of the beliefs and whether they line up biblically. I know Catholics value the bible but there are many man made traditions and beliefs that are held very dearly that dont line up with scripture. A few examples are infant baptism....baptism in the bible followed someone's faith in Jesus and choosing him which a baby hasnt had a chance to do yet, confession through a priest ...jesus is our high priest and we can go directly to God, by the focus being on the priest it takes away from what Jesus has done, priests not marrying....spiritual leaders in the bible were mostly married, it's fine not to marry but the man made rule for priests not to marry has no doubt contributed to sexual abuse cases ....there are more examples but a couple off top of my head. No disrespect intended just some food for thought.

I started using this concept around 2005 and it’s served me well. Different categories and different analogies but I stick to one focus at least a month, usually 3 months. I choose one major focus but a secondary is a high priority and I commit to what can and can’t be done to make it happen. We’re just coming out of an out of state move so as much as I may want to focus on something else, life certainly put some things in my hands so I have to do my best and make peace with it. Push goal and reverse engineering goals works very well.

This makes me think that so many of us try to find easy ways to do it all. How many of us (myself included) think, if we use technology, we can suddenly do it all? The mental fatigue has been hard for me to notice and manage. It's not as obvious and I don't tell myself to take a break until it's way past when I should have. Just because asking someone how they are doing is easier, it's not less taxing on our body, mind, and spirit.

Another strategy when you're tight on resources (time, energy, and money) is to have 1 thing that combines 2 categories. In homeschooling we call it subject integration. For example, using the content of your history studies (maybe The Civil War) to do a Language Arts assignment that teaches specific writing skills (maybe a research paper or a persuasive essay.) So using that principle, you could start doing regular, longer family bike rides together, which is combining family and health at the same time instead of a separate family activity (like playing board games) and health (working out alone at the gym.)

I think it’s helpful to prioritize within each category too! I may not have time to maintain a group of friends, but I have time for 1 or 2 close friends, so I pour my energy into those relationships and don’t worry about creating a bigger circle. I may not have energy to create a perfect Instagram life for my kids each day, but I can make sure that we snuggle and read a book every night. I may not have the energy to eat super healthy and work out every day, but I can focus on just eating more fruit and always having fruit available in the fridge. Focusing on the one thing in each category that would add the most benefit and be the most doable and letting go of everything else in that category that I don’t have time for!

I'm a newlywed, with a new baby (first time mom at 42) and we take care of my 80 year old diabetic father. I've been a christian since I was 5 and serve on the worship team at my church, but because of having to put so much in so many different areas, the last few years my spiritual walk, has lacked. I love God and still pray throughout the day, but just don't always get the time with Him in his word and to really feel like I'm getting refueled to give out to others, but especially my family and home. And at times getting short with my family because I feel so stressed. Thank you for sharing all that you have and I can feel the stress falling away. God bless you both!

It's a scary thought that I may not be making as much money but does that offset the continual stress and the differing values that make my life miserable? I don't think so. God doesn't want us to be miserable in His work. Having Him at the center of everything balances it all out. Thank you for sharing this perspective with us.

On many old wood cookstoves there was an area, sometimes a shelf, at the back of the stove that would keep food warm, but not enough to burn, or even simmer. So "putting it on the back-burner" would keep the food from spoiling or getting completely cold until it could be eaten. It was also a way to pre-heat water from the pump so that it didn't take so long to heat for dishes or laundry. By the way, Michigan here, not southern at all!

A tip for potty training: Create a treat jar and when they use the potty they get to pick a treat. It can be their favorite snack (example - small packs of gummies) or a sticker for their hand, just something they like. Nothing expensive. It helps remind them to go to the potty instead of their diaper. It works. Soon they will be going to the potty every time. As they advance a little bit using the potty, put on underwear instead of diapers. Get their favorite character underwear and they don’t want to mess them up. Just little things to make the process of learning to go to the potty easier and exciting. Hope this helps others in this season. God Bless Everyone.

    HEALTH BURNER:
Over the last two years, I have lost 50 pounds and have kept it off. The first 35 came off super quickly. For me it was a mindset change. I realized I HAD to change. Because if I didn't, I was on to some real health issues: Diabetes, NAFL (Non-alcoholic fatty liver), bone deformation, to name a few. I even thought what we ate was pretty healthy. We RARELY ate out.
These are some of the ways to EASILY improve your health: Pick 1-3 if just starting out...
    FOOD:
    1. Time restricted eating, or even better intermittent fasting (Snacking all day long even with beverages created insulin resistance for me.)
    2. Keep a to do list and when you want to eat do things instead of eating.
    3. Drink some salty water all day especially when craving food. Maybe add ACV if you can stand it. We crave salt when we want something sweet. I even put salt in my coffee.
    4. When you want your mouth to chew, eat ice or a tiny bit of pink rock salt.
    EXERCISE:
    5. Pick 5 exercises to do daily 1-3X a day (Not hard, but ones that will build muscle.)
    6. Take a walk with someone daily if possible. I love to walk with my husband in the evening after dinner.
    OR
    7. Spend 5-15 min a day doing cardio. Best when right before eating. (signals the body to utilize insulin and the energy we are about to consume.) My Apple watch is only set to 20 min of exercise because I want it achievable.
This is what has helped me. When I do eat, I try to eat clean by eating quite a bit of meat with high amounts of natural fat. I do eat veggies, but I've learned to heal myself more they need to be low in oxalates. I no longer eat "carbs". It was hard at first, but I bought a glucometer (personal health investment) that used the cheapest strips I could find. (WM Relion) I would test myself to find out how I was doing 1 & 2 hours after eating. It was shocking at first! Even for someone who didn't have diabetes and bloodwork was always good until two years ago. Now I eat to my meter. I do know everyone is different. I'm 59 and wish I had known this a long time ago. So much I had to unlearn.

Great message about finding an ever changing balance to our lives! I love Diana's placement of the spiritual burner. In Genesis 2:9 the Tree of Life was in the center of the Garden of Eden. Matthew 6.25; 28; 31-33 says if we keep God in the center of our lives we won't have to worry about food, clothing, and drink. 1 Timothy 6.8 says if we have food and clothing, we will be content. Thank you for encouraging all of us to live simpler lives. Hugs..

I felt like a moron. For one twin, toilet training required 10+ xrays, two anal manometries, years of daily enemas, spinal MRI, cecostomy surgery, and finally daily cecostomy flushes--- not sure this kid will ever FEEL the urge to poop. I just love you ladies… Thank you for this channel. ❤️ how might you factor in serving at your church into this equation? That’s been on my mind a lot lately, as I’ve had to frequently turn down requests to serve at church because I hate the idea of not having sufficient time to manage my home or to spend peaceful, at-home time with my little family. At this stage in my life I’d like to just consider my home and family my ministry. (I also work full time.) However, I know serving in (and not just taking from) the church is important. What are your thoughts here?

This reminds me a little bit of Thomas Leonard's Nine Environments for Personal Evolution. It also sounds a little bit like his philosophy of practicing 'extreme self-care.' Extreme self-care teaches that 'selfishly' taking extremely good care of yourself allows you to give more back to the world. He uses the analogy of the safety instructions when you take a flight. You are instructed that when cabin pressure drops and the oxygen masks also drop, you must put the oxygen mask on yourself before you put it on your children or anyone else. Why? Because if you become unconscious you can't take care of anyone else. Then you lost me when you started dumping religious dogma.

Have to say, feel like you personally addressed my comment here that I had left on on the 4 burner video 😂😂 I was really struggling to get how to apply it. This made more sense to word it as not turning stuff off...but kinda don’t be working on changing anything about the other 2 specific burner? I gJess I can resonate better with turning them up or down, or just not giving them NEW attention, rather let them simmer where they are (for example to turn down friends might be to keep your monthly lunch date with your best friend you’ve had for years, but don’t be looking to schedule new things right now) I think the idea of turning them off confused me 😉 love you ladies and all your encouragement!!
