I've had many, many piano teachers that told me that "you can't play that", "it's too difficult for you". I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER shy away from a piece of music that I love no matter what it is. I did not stay with those piano teachers very long. As an amateur piano hobbyist I need to play the music no matter how it sounds, just to get the music into my DNA.
I've been studying this piece for a long time. For me, the difficulty is/are the left hand parts at the solo entrance, where it seems to be hard to connect with the close hand right hand part, accurately, since I can't see both hands at once. And, of course the third movement fugue like entrance, and chord jumps. The cadenza, seems to be difficult to connect the wide chord spreads. I know much of this is practice and preparation. It's still a bit difficult to get it right and with the right passion, and dyamics.
Brahms concerti are amazing ! I don't know how much you like Brahms music but you are very lucky to be able to play it with an orchestra. Not there in my piano journey but your advice are always useful for other pieces. Will we have a little video of the concert ?
