Not necessary to choose Vanguard. S&P 500 ETF can be bought in Fidelity, Robin Hood, Schwab, TD Ameritrade, Vanguard, etc. has similar actively managed index funds. Compare ticker symbols, companies within the fund, expense ratio, annual returns, etc. most importantly, do your own research!!! Consider placing in a ROTH IRA to avoid capital gains taxes and earned dividends.

True! Tons of other providers outside of Vanguard, check out SPY, IVV for example

My portfolio doesn’t just cater to dividend stocks. I hold $VFIAX (S&P 500 index fund) in my Roth IRA and $VTI (Total Stock Market ETF) in my taxable brokerage account. Two of my largest holdings. The individual dividend stock positions all complement the index holdings.

Question - Ill be 20 soon. I want to invest in the S&P 500 and potentially some dividends and I'm looking to open an account with fidelity. I don't want to wait for the age 59 1/2 to start withdrawing. I want to be able to withdraw at around age 50. Should I open a roth ira or brokerage account. Im ready to start investing and this is the last decision I need to make before doing so.

What about setting up your account? All these boxes you have the choice to uncheck, or leave it alone, as you’re setting up your account?

Dollar cost averaging is generally the best strategy!

Is S&P 500 returns good enough to go all in on right now? Or should someone start on popular stocks such as APPL, or SBUX. I want to invest around 200 grand from my cash savings

If you're investing a lot, follow the strategy of Dollar Cost Averaging - you also own a ton of stocks like AAPL through a S&P 500 ETF

How long should you hold an S&P 500 Index Fund ? If you were retired would you still hold the fund and transistion the capital gains to income or would you move the captial gains from the index fund to another financial vehicle like an annuity ? Also my company 401k offers the Fidelity 500 Index Fund (ticker symbol FXAIA) with an "expense ratio of .15%" and if I go direct to Fidelitys website and open the same index fund account on my own, the Fidelity 500 Index Fun (FXAIX) "expense ratio is 0.015%"... are thsese expense ratios based off per $1,000 or per $100 dollars, or per $1.00 you invest in the fund. Any information you can provide would really help me out. Thank you
