- This restoration of an almost 100-year-old Omega military watch includes a full service of the non-running Cal. 26.5 T3 movement, a complete case overhaul with soldering work, and a nickel plating process to ensure resistance to future corrosion. I always marvel at the way the denture tablets seemingly remove the cracks in porcelain dials. That timepiece did come up quite nicely. Your classic Urema cleaning machine looked to be in nice condition too. I would just like to mention that WW2 was from the 1st of September 1939 to the 2nd of September 1945... which I've always found easy to remember because it was 6 years and 1 day long and the 1st of September is an easy date to remember because it was my father's birthday... in 1939!!! I hope you keep posting more of these interesting videos. I subscribed and clicked the bell for all notifications. Hint, hint. 😊
Soldering the caseback was an impressive solution. Being new to watchmaking I would never have thought of that. Also I've seen other watchmaker use liquid coffee but never coffee grounds. It made the lume interesting with the spots.

I love hand wind, vintage dress/field watches with a small sub-seconds. This era is particularly interesting to me as there is a real blur of those two types of watch, as even field watches looked beautiful. That dial looks amazing and is very reminiscent of a pocket watch dial.

What a great restoration! I really enjoyed to see you tackle all the issue from start to finish. Plating and that beat error correction at the end. I started in this hobby last year and still building confidence to do more complex jobs. I started with Soviet movements as they are more affordable so it would be amazing to have an omega in my small collection
I am also still relatively new to the hobby. Some of the Soviet movements are pretty interesting and fun to work on. And you never know what is waiting behind the next service, maybe you'll need to exchange a balance staff :D

This watch was interesting - a split bi-metallic compensation balance in a wristwatch! With Nivarox hairsprings coming out in 1933 this must have been right on the transition to monometallic balances even for expensive watches. You triggered me to read about that: Thanks!
I agree with you, I think the coffee powdered definitely makes the hands match and age with the rest of the watch. Not so much to take away from the power of illumination, but just to give it that touch of authenticity. Nice. marvelous outcome!

Eine wunderbare Arbeit. Kleine Anmerkung zum Kaffee: Ich benutze Kaffee-/Espresso Sticks, die aufgebrüht werden und anschließend noch einmal aufgekocht werden. Der Farbton kann durch Zugabe von mehr oder weniger Wasser variiert werden.
Reinigungstabs gehören ebenso zum Reinigungsarsenal wie Backpulver, Essig, Zitronen- und Ameisensäure. Klassische Hausmittel halt. ;-)

As a somewhat newer watch collector (and mostly omega) and a veteran, I have recently started leaning in to the vintage military watches. Did not even know this one existed! Great to watch it brought back to service.

Regarding the case vs movement serial number ‘mismatch’ - whilst serial numbers should match in modern Omegas, in watches made after the 1920s, until beyond the time this watch was made, the case and serial numbers were not usually matched.
So this movement could well be original to the case.
I think the addition of the coffee to the lume was a nice touch, dark spots and all.
For future reference, if you want to add a vintage colour to the lume without the uneven spotting, you can wet a teaspoonful of instant coffee with a few drops of very hot water and stir until it is dissolved and of even consistency.
You can then add this coffee concentrate drop by drop to the lume, stir it in and adjust the colour of the lume to your taste.
I agree that the way you resecured the dial to the watch is far better than gluing it on or using those awful sticky dots.
Soldering the new dial feet back on to the dial is the best approach, isn’t difficult and the tools needed are much more affordable (the dial foot soldering machines from China are fine).
Kalle Slaap has made a great video on soldering dial feet on his RUclips channel, which is called Chronoglide.
If you do use glues in a watch, it is important to choose your glue carefully. Many glues emit corrosive gases as they set and cure, and this offgassing can persist for a very long time. These corrosive gases, trapped in a watch can cause corrosion.
One of the safer choices are two part epoxy adhesives. Once the epoxy has cured for 24 hours, there should be no problematic off gassing.
UV activated adhesives are another good choice, but only useful in situations where you can adequately expose the glue to UV light, so it would not be a good choice for securing dial feet.

Amazing infos thanks a lot! Especially concerning the serial numbers and off gassing. I will certainly keep that in mind for the next ones. Two part epoxy is usually my choice when it comes to glue, but I thought my way would be easier to reverse.

Your gluing of the dial feet is far better than gluing dial to movement or those horrible sticky dots.
In case you don’t know the process, dial foot welding/soldering sounds far more sophisticated and difficult than it really is.
The dial is prepared by cleaning the places where the feet will go with an abrasive. A tiny granule or slice of solder is placed under the dial foot.
The soldering machine is electric. One wire connects to the dial, the other connects to the dial foot. When the circuit is closed, a quick burst of electricity melts the solder and the job is done.
As mentioned, there are Chinese dial foot soldering machines that are so much cheaper than the Swiss alternatives, and they do a great job.
Amazing how dirt and gunk can build up. Enjoyed watching it.

Großartig! Über die Körnung in der Leuchtmasse kann man geteilter Meinung sein, denn wenn der Korpus nicht mehr "Alt" aussieht, brauchen es die Zeiger auch nicht. Ich habe es auch schon gesehen, dass flüssiger Kaffee zum anfärben gebraucht wurde. Ab dafür, ich würde mich über weitere Videos sehr freuen, also bis dahin....👍👍👍
A nice restoration again, good job. I use dissolved coffee or tea for the coloring of the lume. It is easier to get the correct color this way. There is also a paint set to get nice colours. Keep up the good work!!
