I finally converted my Juno 6 to the Juno66. Brilliant! Kit is so well done, easy to install, everything down to the stickers and the hole template for the MIDI connectors is in there. And the way the user interface is so tastefully done with a minimum resources. Just awesome sauce, good engineering all around.
Where have I been!! I’ve never seen a Juno66 before! I bought a Juno 60 the first year they came out, still have it. I’m amazed it has polyphonic portamento.
Can you guys post an installations video or another video taking about the process? I also didn't understand what do you mean by can't save Juno 66 parameters? Thanks for that. Waiting for my Juno 60 to arrive...
Can you include a firmware option with dual DCO mode instead of duophonic? That way chords can be played. I don't find duophonic mode too useful - it's neither a chord nor a fat unison.
Nadav Vee Havakook It was fine really, there are certain things I'd do differently next time - don't try and save the old CPU, just cut the legs off, you'll have a mare trying to desolder it and you risk damaging the PCB just to try and save the CPU (which you won't want back anyway once this is installed). I did have some bad luck in that my Juno 60's DCB screws were different to what Tubbutec had and didn't tap the little MIDI panel successfully, so I used wood tapping screws that I had. All in all though, it's totally worth it - most of all for the 'detune' mode, that totally transforms the Juno and turns it into some kind of freaky Aphex-sounding wonky polysynth.
Hi. Your video inspired me to get the mod. So glad I did. It's opened up a whole new world of possibilites and beautiful sounds. I have just ordered a Nanokontrol for my Juno 66. Can you advice me on how to set it up please?
Thank you. Note that you can not connect the USB of the nanocontrol directly to Juno-66. You need a computer or other USB host (such as our USB Bridge) for that. Apart from that, you only need to configure the CC numbers used by Juno-66 into Nanocontrol. See nanocontrol user guide on how to do this.
@@andywickett22 You can find the Juno-66 CCs in the user manual: tubbutec.de/juno-66/#usrman The layout template is not by us, I don't know if they also provide a config file
Can you detune the oscillator but leave the sub oscillator in tune (i.e. to get closer to two-oscillator patches from other synths)? And does this mod completely lose you access/use of any kind of transpose function?
Hey Guys, I'm loving this but I am getting a weird midi feedback loop/phasing issue. It goes away when I remove either the Midi in or out from my MIO Midi to USB, but then I can't read or write midi respectively. Is this a Logic Pro X thing? Thanks!
many features can be controlled via a Juno-66 internal configuration menu using the keyboard keys. For some features, like the extra ADSR and LFO you need some kind of midi controller. Does not have to be this one.
I'm interested in upgrading my Juno 60. So I have the programmability for patches. However, I have a question. Can I still store patches, call up patches, edit patches, and rewrite patches and still have this retrofit Juno 66 kit. I don't want to lose the ability to use the patch programmer.
Not with this mod. However if you don't want to use the extra features , just don't! They are just extra meaning all the original features are still there where they used to be.
I already have a midi retrograde on the back of my juno 60, which is effectively useless as the instruction manual to set it up has been lost. Would this upgrade be able to fit around this?
Both portamento switch positions are presets and are adjustable with 127 different values via midi controller or 17 different values via the config menu.
Is the Nano-Kontrol2 connected to the Midi in or is there an alternate connection such as USB to leave the Midi In free for an external sequencer? Many thanks. Love this video and upgrade
+peter stockton For this video the controller is connected to midi in using a laptop as usb-midi to midi converter. In general I recommend a midi merger if you want to connect a sequencer and a controller (or a controller/sequencer with built in midi merger)
+tubbutec Thanks for that. If I don't want to take a laptop in a live situation can I control functions like 'detune' and filter sweep using a Waldorf Pulse 2 or a Slim Phatty for example. The nano Kontrol 2 can't connect via a USB to MIDI box because, if I understand rightly, it needs to draw power via bus. Also do you know of any service centres in the UK who have installed the Ju66 upgrade? all the best
+peter stockton I don't know of any service centers in particular but any should be able to install the mod. Have a look a this list, it might help you to find a tech: www.matrixsynth.com/2011/06/list-of-synth-techs-by-location.html

Hi, I just purchased this and look forward to installing it, what is the white midi controller you're using in the video? do you have it connected directly to the Juno, or is it going through a computer first?
suitandtieguy You need to record the triads in Polychord mode, then record the sequence in the sequencer. 8:19 shows an example of a sequence containing chords and single notes.
I read nothing about memory. Is that all gone after the update or can you still use it as the original 60? Or can we store the new patches with all the updated features?
just bought the kit, any futur update may be ? nano kontrol still the best way to control extra features but need usb right ? nice update will be to plug a controller directly on juno
You can plug in any controller into the Juno directly as long as the controller lets you assign the CC values freely. Nano control is probably not the best option as it is USB only. There is also a dedicated controller by the company Stereoping.

Is the sequencer polyphonic like the JX3p?
suitandtieguy If you use it in combination with Polychord it is polyphonic and also outputs polyphonic midi messages.
tubbutec So the answer is "no it only records one note per stage?"
suitandtieguy For each step you can record a single note, a chord, break or tie
tubbutec so if I put it into record and play a triad then a different triad, the put it in play mode, it will play the two triads alternately?
suitandtieguy You need to record the triads in Polychord mode, then record the sequence in the sequencer. 8:19 shows an example of a sequence containing chords and single notes.
