Yes, but traditionally you're supposed to talk German in Scheveningen or any other North Sea beach resort. You know, the Germans really felt betrayed by us in May 1945 after we had kicked them from our beaches. So, from that moment on loads of them return each year just to do as if they still own the place.
Je spreekt echt al heel goed nederlands Eva , vind het fijn dat je in ons kleine , maar mooie landje woont , een echte verrijking voor ons landje ben jij gr.
My husband and I are Americans who moved to the Netherlands just a few weeks ago. I’ve been watching your videos the past year, and you helped us out so much. Utrecht is a lovely city! Going today for our IND stickers.
My first wife and I stayed in Amsterdam in 1976, for a week, and having grown up in a Dutch farming community on the west coast of Canada, It just felt so Familiar and Comfortable. I like your channel, but this was my fav. Cheers.
While not being 100% without an accent (well, most Dutch have a regional accent, so I guess your 'region' is just an uncommon one) your idiomatic Dutch is really really good!
Yes the first instance was spot on. The others were real good two but had a little too much palatalisation on the /s/, although if other features of the pronunciation would change to match those could probably still pass as part of a thick Amsterdam accent.
10:29 "surprisingly some parts of this beach-town feel like the city". Well, actually that is not very surprising because Scheveningen isn't a village or town, it's a district of The Hague, a city of 550,000 people. Contrary to popular belief, Scheveningen was never an independent municipality.
Beautiful! One thing I was so shocked about when I moved to the Netherlands last month is how late the sun stays up! So lovely. I bet the winter will be the opposite kind of shock for me.
Well Tanner, today is 31 December 2021, the days are already lengthening and I wondered whether you have survived the shock, or, as we prefer to call it *'De donkere dagen rond kerstmis.'* (Phew, ik ben zo blij dat ik niet in Alaska geboren ben!)
My father was born in Delft. He always talked about Scheveningen. I was born in Canada and never lived in Holland, only visited a few times. It was especially weird the first time visiting as a 19 year old. My parents always spoke Dutch at home and we answered back in English. I am amazed how your Dutch is so much better than mine. I can speak it conversationally only to a point. I brutalize the language. I get weird looks in Holland, ...usually with a smile. Most often they reply in English.
Hey Ava, You are really good in pronouncing Scheveningen ! In WW II the Dutch resistance used this name to distinguish if a guy was a cover up German or a real Dutch guy ;-) Germans would probably pronounce Sjeveningen in stead of S"g"eveningen. :-P I loved the vacation vlog! You girls picked the right moment to visit the coastal region !

Nice to see Scheveningen. Grew up in Den Haag, my parents live next to Kijkduin but spend a lot of summers in Scheveningen as well. Haven't been in the Netherlands in over a decade and this video gave me some nostalgic feelings. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Btw your Dutch is very good and your pronunciation of Scheveningen was impressive. Usually native English speakers say shaveningen (as in shaving)
Nice video about Scheveningen! The famous hotel that you show in the beginning is the upperclass and world-famous 'Kurhaus'. And your Dutch is excellent!
Hi Eva, what a nice video you have made. How beautiful all those outdoor shots.. I watched the movie yesterday and it was absolutely amazing!!! ik blijf zeker je vlogs volgens ..❤❤❤
Nice. I had to catch a connecting flight to Norway in Amsterdam. Last time I was there in 2018, I had a four hour layover. I was roaming around the shops buying souvenirs and the cashier asked me how I liked my time in Amsterdam. I explained that I was catching a connecting flight to the US from Norway. She told me that I needed to come back and visit Amsterdam. I agreed. Then COVID hit. Maybe I’ll make it next year. I enjoy your videos. This one was especially good.
I love how excited you are, Scheveningen can do that to a person 😻. Great to hear you speak Dutch. No accent at all, so your girlfriend must be proud of you speaking Dutch that well.
Have you driven the Breezanddijk (E22/A7) across the IJsselmeer, from Den Oever to Zurich (or vice versa)? It's like driving 20cm above the sea level. Crazy! I'll never forget that drive (in my beloved 2cv). 👍🏻👍🏻 Ever. IMO The Netherlands is exotic! (From Denmark}

@@DutchAmericano it's way more crowded when not Covid times. Most of us who are local go north or south into the dunes and stay away from the pier area. This summer between the iffy weather and Covid, there's been a lot less insane crowding than usual around the pier though.
Hi, Ava! It was wonderful to see you on holiday in Scheveningen, which you pronounced like a real Dutchie so your "integratie" is on track... BTW sun sets can be wonderful... the one you showed unfortunately was a bit hazy due to the sea, which happens from time to time. The Hotel you showed in the beginning of the video was "Het Kurhaus", did you take a peek inside? You really should have because it is really nice. The accentuation you apply when talking Dutch is pretty well done, it's those little details you add when speaking the language is very good. It indicates you really understand what you are saying. And from what I read here, you only are here for just 2 years? Now you do have the advantage that both English and Dutch are very closely related as being "Germanic" languages.

Congrats Eva, your pronunciation is really good. Must be hard, as most Dutch people relish the opportunity to speak English. And about the books.... I also try to read a lot during a holiday. Nowadays it's a bit more difficult with a son aged almost 5 🤣🤣
Je Nederlands is geweldig 😃👍🏻
I think this is the first time I hear you speak Dutch and think it's really good! And eh....not supposedly famous (hotel and pier).....WORLD FAMOUS!!!..... in The Netherlands... ;-)
Sapiens is een grappig boek! Moet hem zelf nog uitlezen
Congrats Eva, your pronunciation is really good. Must be hard, as most Dutch people relish the opportunity to speak English. Fooled a couple of Americans in my day, the only time i got caught was the time they asked where i was from, and i mentioned the same city they were actually from. What are the odds, right? Have fun, hope you have an incredible holiday!
11:30 a type of strandbeest by Theo Jansen 😄 !
1:55 that’s very close to my house. Hope you have had a good few days here, despite the shitty weather.
Well spoken the word Scheveningen; with the s en g . So nice video
You are such a kind, bubbly, greater than life person. I like all of your stories, especially since I live in The Hague, and I was born in Scheveningen 😺. btw, how is your 🐈? I adore cats. 🥴
8:30 It took me a while to realize it is not "You 'll know Harari". I never heard of him :-)
Loved your Dutch accent, loved your book review/list. Next beach staycation the Waddeneilanden or Zeeland?
Check out this dark comedy if you like, it's called Black Books, it's about a bad-tempered eccentric bookshop owner. Not sure if there is a book about it but you might like the humour. It's a British sitcom staring Dylan Moran. Keith..
the kurhaus was a curing hospital for tuberculosis patients
Wow a wild strandbeest!
holy shit....eerste x dat ik je nederlands hoor praten in een fimpie.....super goed man !!! moest of the newer vids i saw first ...r all in english ! awesome !
✌ i am addicted 2 CHOCOMEL 😁...my guilty pleasure 😁
thanks, I almost forgot it was summer holiday. x
Hi Ava, Sorry your holiday plans to Portugal couldn't go through. Maybe next year...?
As more people noticed, your Dutch is very good, but for relaxed reading of books you still read English books.
Is reading in Dutch for you still too much work mentally, you can't do it in a relaxed way on your holiday? Do you have favourite Dutch books of writers?
That pronunciation of Scheveningen was perfect. Spoke some Farsi at home?
You rock girl, your Dutch is fantastic. Love your accent 😉
Then please read John Grisham's Camino Island and Camino Winds, specially the first is one of my favorite books. Love your vid's btw!
Actually the way you pronounced "Scheveningen" sounded pretty good.
