  • Thanks to the Doha Chamber Choir and members of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, who took part in the home-distance-recording of that beautiful song of John Dowland „Can She Excuse My Wrongs“, which was planned to be performed in the Qatar National Library chamber music concert in June 2020.

@@r.bernonensis5772 Perhaps, but Dowland, I feel, deserves far more recognition. And yes, when the chips are down, I would happily stand by my statement.

@@Alun49 Well, of course there's no denying that Dowland deserves more recognition, but as a keyboard player, I have a prejudice in favor of Byrd; his contrapuntal work is more satisfying to play than Dowland, certainly more complex than that of Bull or Phillips, and strongly reminiscent of the work of Cabezon. In addition, I believe his influence can be seen in Sweelinck and through him, in Scheidemann and Weckmann. So, is either Dowland or Byrd the greatest? It may be too close to call, but I'm getting outta this conversation before the Elgar people start showing up.

Just stunning, and what an achievement by social-distanced performance!! Wonderful to see what's possible from Doha (and in some cases around the world!) when such great musicians get together to conquer Covid-19! (Great to see my friends Joris Laenen - organ - and Jenny Taynen -soprano - in brilliant form for one of my favourite pieces!). Looking forward to post-Corona era when the full concert can happen after all!

What can I say? One of my favorite composers is a man who wrote music more than four centuries before I was born. Sometimes that even seems odd to me, but I'd far rather listen to Dowland than Brahms or Beethoven.

Anyone seeing this comment... Why is the valved brass instrument not shown? There is no way those runs were done with a slide. I'm guessing the track was performed with a trumpet, and then videoed with a slide 'trumpet'? (definitely not a trombone)

I can’t find anything by that name (cornetto) that even closely resembles the trumpet/cornet ranged slide instrument used in the video. Do you know if the track was laid with a slide instrument or a valved instrument?
