They don't need groups, they need guests that the majority of viewers like, for example comedians and actresses. I bet if Yoo Jae Suk became a guest for one episode, it might have even beaten the current highest rating for this show, which was achieved when PSY was the guest
It does depend on the guests but the show has to appeal to all age groups. Plus this time of year many tv shows start airing but ask us anything will stay strong because they have a loving fan base. Many people nowadays watch episodes a few days later too, so you can't really take one set of ratings into account as ask us anything is really popular now compared to the early days. There are overseas ratings aswell that are not applied and i know there are many foreign fan's mainly because of heechul and ho dong being popular in china and many American's watch it too. So to say ratings are decling is subjective.
