Great video. I think you were spot on pricing but perhaps a bit low for west coast ($1500/2 days) but well within budgeting ranges. Longer term, I think you need to consider changing out engine air filters, and may be more importantly, rebuild my calipers. "cheap" if you do them yourself but hard to get a shop to sign up for. Still this is such a great sport - I would recommend it. Thanks again.

Great & very informative in depth review of costs associated in tracking the Gt4. Though would be great to have a follow up on the long term mechanical wear & tear issues on tracking the Gt4, which interests me more. Have my heart set on the 981 Gt4 Clubsport, a no compromise race car from the factory with the main draw card being that it has the same factory engine & gearbox as the Gt4 road car. No high maintenance costs, poor drive ability below 4000rpm & regular expensive engine/gearbox rebuilds as per most race cars. It can be simply serviced by any Porsche dealer exactly the same as the road car. There is no 100hr engine run time whatsoever as with any highly modified race engine.
In addition, it is fitted with onboard jacks, which makes changing tyres a breeze & so much easier. Not to mention, the added benefit of an upgraded & adjustable (12stage) ABS system, including 18” wheels to offset the taller gearing of the GT4 & keep tyre costs down compared to 19” tyres or larger.

You make a great case for the Clubsport. Curious whether there are that many available still in good shape. I've since moved on to a 992 GT3 for track use, but I miss the GT4--wish I could have kept it as well.

Great video! I was thinking about buying the new 718 GT4 to track but didn't realize how expensive it is. I mean you said you are on track for about 30 minutes per track day so that's a lot of money and time spent on repairs etc for a half hour of fun.

It definitely is expensive, but in the overall scheme of things, perhaps not out of line. $14k-17k for 10 track days for the year--that's probably the equivalent of what someone would spend for the year if they had a bad golf habit (especially with travel, greens fees, etc.). And the 25-30 minutes on track is per session; you get at a minimum of 4 sessions per trackday, and sometimes 5 or 6. So it can easily be 2-3 hours of track time per day. Try the GT4! If you find that tracking it isn't for you, you'll still have a fantastic, fun road car!

I never add up the costs lol I think I get 4 days out of my RE71Rs and I get 15 days out of my front pads and I have never replaced my AP rotors and they are still going strong. I do change the brake fluid out everytime I go to the track though, which is expensive, but I do the work myself

Surprised you're not using Endless RF-650 or Castrol SRF. How is RPF600 fluid on track.

I’ve always been curious to try the SRF, but Motul 600 has been fine. No issues at all-it’s what my indy shop uses preferentially.

@@AutoPilotgogogo tires/brakes. i'm running through everything in 2 days so in general i think im at something like 3k/day right now. hopefully it gets lower once i switch to track dedicated brakes. also i think the heavier car chews through the tires a bit faster.

    • @AutoPilotgogogo

Do you mostly run at tracks with long straights and heavy braking zones?

@@AutoPilotgogogo no, high speed corners, just lots of trailbraking
