I worked in and on salt mines and oil rigs for about 16 years. Now that I'm in what is basically a "desk job" I find myself missing those extremely physically taxing 12-16 hours days sometimes. I have had discussions with my wife on how my new position is more soul draining and depressing than the hard labor jobs but at least now the risk of me passing at work is down 99 percent but my body can't do those intensive labor jobs anymore. Any job can be taxing the grass is never greener just a different scenery. Mental health is very important and people should do what they can to live their best lives.

@@classicsgaming Isnt that what we all do with WoW anyway though? I mean I would much prefer streaming 9hrs everyday playing video games rather than sitting my ass at work, having to deal with dumb people and dumb corporate decisions. I also wouldnt have to worry about randomly losing my job for whatever reason.

    • @lifescaption

@@SicariusGaming87 I can assure... they can end up feeling very similar when it comes to being mundane, etc. It's far different being able to leisurely log on a game and do as you please, switch games when you're bored or want variety, etc... and being stuck turning that into a job, it can drain the joy out of it because its turning it into work ( you're losing a part of that freedom in a sense too, until your community is very soundly developed )... now there are exceptions to that - of course... if you're still honeymooning with w/e game you're playing + streaming... it may not feel like work at all; even if you're investing 60+ hours into monetizing the experience ( editing videos, social media interactions, dealing with parasocial exchanges, mitigating IRL impact, etc ).
Like with any work, there are pro's and cons - and one of the biggest cons (outside of the dox/parasocial aspects, etc) is the general lack of financial security by comparison to a more stereotypical career/job. Don't be confused, you can very easily say 'the wrong thing' or decide you want to switch to a different game and very much 'lose your job' when your viewer base takes a substantial hit. With a 9/5, you're at least pulling a certain amount each day ( for the most part ) regardless.

    • @triptriad1101
      @triptriad1101 23 дня назад +2

@@SicariusGaming87you could still randomly lose this pretend stream job for whatever reason. Cancel culture, falling off and not being interesting so no viewers etc. If it was as simple as playing a game in front of a camera with no personality or high skill more people would do it as a sustainable job.
Also the comment about the dumb ass people and corporations is literally the same streaming, toxic chatters just love to see a streamer get upset.

I have worked as a chef for a few years and now I'm working from home helping my gf with her RUclips channel and business and I think any job can be shit if done for many hours. It's common sense really. I loved being a chef because it was so much more active and creative and I also like work from home for the freedom. But also come with the cons of feeling less free in a kitchen or having to be more responsible if working from home. Anything done for too many hours will burn you no matter what. Subject of a better or worst jobs,, it mostly depends on you as a persona to change and do / find whatever you can or achieve in your life and get some money.

TLDR: all work is hard in their own ways.
My friends are all labourers. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians, brick layers, plasterers. I’m an engineer. They are all hard in different ways. Carpenters, hard on your back. Plumbers hard on your knees and back 😭plasterers hard on your back and shoulders. Myself the only physical thing is getting 3m bits of steel. But it’s all day problem solving which is mentally hard I suppose. It’s still tiring. I personally didn’t want a dodgy back so chose engineering. All work is hard for different reasons.
I’d compare streaming with working retail. It’s socially hard, it wears you down playing a character all day. I’d rather be who I am and my body take the strain lol

    • @stephenswinehart
      @stephenswinehart 23 дня назад +1

I’ve been on both sides: I did a more manual labor job for 13 years, then decided to save my back/knees/etc and switched to a more mentally draining field. Both leave me exhausted from effort, but it’s very different and tough to understand if you don’t do one or the other.

I strongly relate to your take - I was once an insulation installer but today a software engineer - I felt like working in construction was tough on the body but amazingly simple for the mind, very easy to get into the repeated tasks. Additionally, I was never stressed. Software engineering can be easy for the mind when you encounter a repeated task but can be so mentally demanding dealing with new concepts, ultimately increasing the stress level.

I quit social media years ago. Trust me, nobody really cares about social media. People care on social media about social media, but if, or when, you quit, you will notice nobody in real life cares about it. Nobody talks about what happens on social media, it has no real influence on people at your job, at the grocery store, or anywhere else. It's all just virtual nonsense with no actual effect on people outside of social media. Well, those people exists of course, but they're a tiny, diminishing minority. Social media isn't as influential on society as it seems. Just quit your Facebook, X's, Instagrams, TikToks and everything else. I know, RUclips can be considered a social media, but here it's way easier to be incognito. It's not as serious or sincere, it's just a video game. Yeah, actually, just consider it a video game. Because it's what it is, sort of like an MMO.

I just starting into listening to this, but I think the dropped really close to Reckfuls birthday. Just be kind to each other. I am in a dark place right now to be honest because of how brutal work has been to me the past few weeks. I worked factory jobs, service jobs, call center, taught, and now I am a software engineer. They all have their challenges. I don’t think there is a job that wasn’t tiring, but I will say teaching by far was the most rewarding.

It’s all work. That being said, with streaming as a job, you don’t have to deal with the nuances of a regular job. Commute, co-workers, etc. Like he said in the video, he just needed to take time not streaming to fix himself. You don’t have to put in for time off or call in sick and it be counted against you by a company. You can just take the time off.

Difference between Hasan and a lot of us is that we dont have the financial freedom to change our jobs to something that isn't soul crushing and depressing. We barely get by and can't afford to just quit work and go back to school to get a degree in another field, or start a business. We can do these things, but it's something that we have to do over 5-10 years.

TL:DR Streamers will go into depression at some point. Just wait n see..
You dont build a society on streaming.
Ever heard the saying "i wanna feel important in ghe world" ... Meaning with life... Contributing to society..
People that dont have jobs, homeless etc. Their biggest wish is to get a job and feel a part of the society ..
Streamers are just ... Its a fantasy life? Its like being a teenager who has a dream of playing video games for the rest of their life... We all had rhst dream us 90 kids... Then we grow up, and learn the real world, the benefit of contributing, co workers, job events like Christmas/easter etc.
Having a job.. working for a paycheck, growing as a person.. thats a huge W...
If youre not evolving yourself. But youre just sitting and playing video games everyday, while you have a entire army if supporters.. you dont get to the point where you think? "Hey i need to do something with my life" ... Where is humanity in 20 yrs? Will we only have 3 doctors left on earth? Because everyone wants to be famous fortnite player? 🤣 I dont know... But this is just plain wrong... (While im writing this, Xar mentions, that its way funnier to stream while playing)
Yeah no shit? I wish people were watching me all fhe time too? I do insane shit all the time too?
But isnt that abit... 😅 Erhh? "Main character syndrome" ish?
" Oooh did you guys see that!"
Like? Having the urge that everyone needs to see you? 😅
This just develops, apparently, similiar to what we have now.. entitled brats online who all think they are the main character of the raid ?? 🤷
Or because they watched a video of some pro team clearing mythic somwthing, and then projects that into casual gameplay and expects everyone is playing like this ? 🤷
Ive been mentioning this for years, ranting and discussing online everywhere.
Social media, tik tok, youtube or whatever. Had alot of good things, but oh my the toxic behaviour it evolved with it.
Prime example is when the videos arrived in the HC era where people tried to kill other people intentionally... For content... Ruining other peoples time spend and time off from their real life..
This is a fucking scummy evolvement in the human mentality.. so what? We want to be a dick intentionally to other people, for content? ... Jeez ...
Gaming community overall is just... Not the same anymore... I want the early 2000s back... Where content, bis, meta gaming wasnt a thing.
Where nerds gathered... Not instagram only fans models whos boosting their ego while plastering all their SoMe's into rhe gaminh world aswell..
Ever thought avout twitch turned into a spcial platform for girls with very little clothes on? Praying on .. hmm i will get hate for this comment.. but nerds.. some nerds.. dont have the "mojo" with girls.. these twitch thots, are selling candy to people wirh diabetes? Do you understand that analogy ? 🤷
Gaming has changed.. into a popular thing. Wich is ugly.
Gaming back in my time. Was ugly. Not a popular thing. And we had fun.
    Popular gaming isnt fun...

OMEGALUL gaming and conversing with chat for 9 hours is a dreamjob cause its not real work.
yeah sure brother. streaming is mentally draining, if you do not agree, you are stupid or just narrow minded.
I work in retail, my job is easy as hell - because all the toxicity from customers doesnt bother me, if that bothers you, its a horrible job probably.
I just know for a fact that mentally draining jobs are harder on you than physically draining jobs. I experienced both.
Are streamers horrifically overpaid? The top end percentage sure as hell are, just as anybody thriving in the entertainment sector is. If you believe its that easy, go get rich and famous.
Its easy to hate on the successful, but it is never that easy.
