It's like a bull, you HAVE TO blindfold them otherwise they tend to charge people. They caught this young specimen sooner that day and were walking him out to the stone mason shop to trim it down and do a few little ones so people would put them in their garden as decoration.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ - John: „In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD, and the WORD was GOD.
The same was in the beginning with GOD.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
There was a man sent from GOD, whose name was John.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of GOD.
And the WORD was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
No man hath seen GOD at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
And they asked him, What then?
      Art thou Elias?
And he saith, I am not.
      Art thou that prophet?
      And he answered, No.
Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of GOD, which taketh away the sin of the world.
This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of GOD.
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of GOD!
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye?
They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
He saith unto them, Come and see.
They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
And he brought him to Jesus.
And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?
Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me?
Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of GOD; thou art the King of Israel.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of GOD ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water.
And they filled them up to the brim.
And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast.
      And they bare it.
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
But he spake of the temple of his body.
When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.”

Fun fact! The idea of 'aliens' being responsible for these ancient wonders actually originates from colonialism. Racist dickheads in the 19th century saw all these structures that African nations built and were *certain* that Africans couldn't have built such incredible things. There's a few articles about it online- it started as fiction, but picked up steam as an actual belief, and got revived by NatGeo and other media outlets in the 2000s. When it was revived, it was expanded to include basically all really old things that people built. Very interesting read.

I think a big part of this has to do with the wall being a familiar looking structure. Along side that is perception of advancements in civilizations relative to the marvel that is these wonders of the world. Pyramids may have shocked the Western explorer, but the cities adjacent to them did not and therefore a prejudice is developed about the competence of these people.

The islanders, when asked how they moved them, told the westerners that "they walked". The westerners thought that was just mythology, but as you see they were telling them the truth. Only 200 made it all the way to the shore platforms, there are 700 that never made it all the way, littering the island. The statues were carved bottom heavy to facilitate how they were to be moved, and slimmed down when/if they reached the shore platforms, also having the eyes carved at that time.

Neke-neke translates as inching forward by moving the body with disabled legs, or no legs at all. Leonardo demonstrated the meaning of neke-neke by alternately pivoting on the balls and heels of his feet, rocking slightly, and keeping his knees stiff.

I think that people often forget that for ancient people the materials that might not be that familiar to us were pretty familiar to them. For example ancient Egyptians probably perfected their stone mason skills from one generation to another during the thousands of years that Egypt went from old kingdom to middle kindgom and to new kingdom. Stone was most likely a pretty commonly used material for a lot of important buildings so what might seem hard to make for us was most likely something that was perfected by multiple generations of highly skilled workmen.

So the difference between figuring out relativity and quantum machanics and figuring out how to paint a cave walls is thousands of years of socialization and knowledge accumulation and certainly not the fact that humans got smarter over the course of a couple thousand years.
So you had people who were just as smart as people are today spending their lifetimes perfecting crafts and figuring out solutions to the problems they faced in their lifes and communities... it is almost an insult that people today rather come up with extraterrestrial explanations than give credit to our ancestors.

Yup. It's like our wheelbarrows. I've seen a short video about them and it turns out that they are very unefficient. In old times (and still in rural China for example) they used to have a different wheelbarrow where instead of having wheels in the front and having to pick up and hold by yourself all the weight of the bucket, they used to have the wheels in the middle so the weight would directly sit on the wheel and you would just balance it. You could even do it with your little finger. Thus you wouldn't hold any of the weight unlike with nowadays.
It's sad knowing we know a better way but nobody seems to do the change. Quite strange as to why we don't change it and it's truly sad we lost so many things like the wheelbarrow.

They look almost alive while moving in this manner. Given the legend they walked to their locations and were thr spirit of ancestors I fully believe this is how they were moved. Given the volcanic tuff was used not.only as statues but as essentially fertilizer for the soil the people are more or less made from the same material as the moai. I think this would not only be ceromonial but funerary in nature.

This is a very clever technique! The statue in a vertical position moves like a pendulum and the people only need to add a little energy, just as when kid on a swing. The center of gravity is low so that the statue will not tip over easily and the bottom is slightly convex to reduce friction. The higher the statue is the longer lever there is when the ropes are attached at the top. Just genius technique! 🎉

As noted in the linked article, but left out in the description here, this "replica" is 3 meters tall and made of concrete and weighs 4.4 tonnes. It's also being walked along a flat plain.
The largest Moai on the Island weighs 74 tonnes and is 10 meters tall. I'm not claiming that this isn't how all of them were moved, but I'd like to see a replica of the largest Moai walked like this, and not on a flat surface. Would be fascinating to see. And no, I'm not claiming aliens did anything.
For people used to Imperial measurements, this "replica" is about 10 feet tall and one of largest Moai on the actual island is 32 feet tall. That's a massive difference in height and weight.

This is exactly what I was thinking and I hate how simply asking questions, thinking critically, and wanting to see a 1:1 scale re-enactment somehow makes you a "conspiracy theorist." I guarantee that's the only reason this comment hasn't gotten more likes. It's asking too many uncomfortable questions... when I'm sure you and I can both agree this was probably a method they used on terrain that would allow it and they probably just did a few extra things for rougher terrain.

Проблема этой реконструкции в том, что идолы острова Пасхи уходят в землю на пять метров. То есть модель, которую так ловко тащат ребята, должна быть раза в три выше.

      (Chapter: 1...)
