    Quite a pleasure to learn from you, you really explain everything in a totally logical and pedagogical way.
    Thanks a lot!

    Am nodding along in agreement with your explanations. Loving the flat-wound it seems to temper the sound, rounding it off to a smoother audio finish. Very cool

    You explained this a lot more simple and better than Scott Bass Lessons. Going to attempt the fill in again today.

      @@OnlineBassCourses definitely. I got it finally. Now I just need to work on getting it down tightly after transitioning from the main groove which I am almost there.

    Thanks for another great lesson Dan! I really like how you consistently stress the importance of understanding the theory behind a piece of music. This is needed in order for us to imitate, then iterate, as you mentioned as well. Regarding the fill, I've been working on it for a couple of weeks, and it really is masterful. Would expect nothing less from Thundercat. I think what makes it so jazzy is the fill starting on the 2nd degree of the C# natural minor scale, and repeatedly emphasizes the 2nd throughout the entire run. Gives the whole thing a tense sus2 feel until it resolves to the minor third and starts the walk up back to the verse riff.
    YMMV, but I found the fingering to be much easier for the 1st phrase by shifting down to grab the high B on the 4th fret of the G string. This allows the rest of the fill to fit nicely in into the 2 fret box we love so much, and your hand is already in position to start the walk up.

    Dan, thank you for the very detailed lesson. If I may ask a question: I have a Fender bass going directly to a practice amp (I'm a bit of a beginner) what do I need to have that bass tone EVERYONE seem to have on these YT tutorials? Thank you in advance.

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  2 года назад

      Thanks very much. You’ll have to elaborate because I’m not sure what that tone you mean is. There are lots of ways of recording bass and getting different tones. I go direct into Logic via a Universal Audio Arrow (at the moment). So, basically I’m bypassing an amp and using a DI. It’s a little easier to do it that way.

    Hay Dan great video,
    Just a question in terms of Bass pedals, would you say that a compressor is important ? and a Di ?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  3 года назад +1

      Thanks. A lot of people use them. Personally, I've never found one essential for the kind of playing I do, but that's just me. I do have a Cali 76 and an Analogman Bi Comp though and in certain situations they're great. I probably could use them more but do ok without them too. Try and get an even consistent tone with your fingers first.

    Would be great if you were able to name note instead of all these 4 string fret and then... It is not that hard to learn the notes on the fretboard and it is really worth it

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  3 года назад

      For you, yes, maybe not for others. I do see what you mean though. Thanks for the suggestion.

    • @hhcurieux
      @hhcurieux 3 года назад

      @@OnlineBassCourses thanks for the answer. learning notes helps to one day be able to read music. To learn and memorize my parts i think more in terms of "play the root, then minor 3rd then..and so on ." This way it is even easier to transpose and recognize patterns but I understand you try to help the most people. Keep on with your good works

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  3 года назад

      @@hhcurieux that’s exactly what I do. I think it’s the best way and I also think learning the notes is a must. As I mostly do beginner/intermediate lessons, it’s tricky pitching the right level. Some people don’t know the fretboard yet. Because of TAB (I think), it’s easy to get away with not learning them!
