You must not have seen the movie 'Dead Calm' with Sam Neil, Billy Zane, and a 19 yo. Nicole Kidman, as this was a missed opportunity to show the best movie 'kill' via flare gun. This is a 1989 Ozploitation horror film which got the attention of a Mr Thomas Cruise. I have used a pen style signal flare during emergency water procedures training. I haven't used flares for signaling, (maybe coloured smoke has taken over that role?) but they're still used for illumination, although maybe less than they used to be due to night vision devices being so common. Modern parachute flares come in tubes about a foot long and an inch in diameter, you take off the end caps, pull the string to launch the flare, then the tube is garbage.
I must point out the obvious fact that "Dragon's Breath" rounds are optimal for killing vampires or other creatures that are invulnerable to bullets but not fire. I was hoping this was more about how cheese flare guns in movies are. Like how much is not like a rocket propelled thermite grenade like the movies, and how nasty and effective it actually is or isn't when used like the movies. Still good video and I appreciate the history and knowledge.
Yes very good! But in Soldier of Orange from 1977, traitor Robbie shoots a tracer bullet that landed near Guus (Jerroen Krabbe) . The Germans then walked in the wrong direction.
One of the characters in All Quiet on the Western Front is killed by a flare gun. I wonder if Remarque saw something like that happen in real life during a trench raid or something?
Humans have an intense fear of fire, or being on fire. Often the fear needs to be trained out in cases like law enforcement, because of the tendency to use fire in riots. Each dragons breath round kills in a pretty awful way, and it plays on that primal fear, making it just as much psychological warfare
Stuff like the dragons breath rounds or flamethrowers are designed with the idea of fear. We are scared of fire and people are more likely to break and run if being shot at with fire. In addition to the magnesium being dangerous to yourself when firing the Dragons Breath it will also foul your gun very quickly making it useless to use any standard ammunition.

Well done man
Thank you! And welcome to the channel =)
It's was a sign for the Germans guarding the beach area.
One of the characters in All Quiet on the Western Front is killed by a flare gun. I wonder if Remarque saw something like that happen in real life during a trench raid or something?
Should have used an Atlantis Lost Empire clip but great work as always
Great Video Mate !
7:34 i want to know more about this
As M203 man during the Cold War I shot more parachute flares than anything else during my time.
