I was there! This was the Budweiser Superfest tour in Greensboro, NC. Aaron Hall was singing "Piece of My Love". He starts singing, "You gotta be 18 years or older...if you wanna get on this staaaaage!" LOL! They pull the girl up onstage, Aaron is singing. All of a sudden Mike Bivins walks out, crowd goes CRAZY! He then snatches Aaron off the floor and starts pointing his finger all in his head! Then Rick comes out, Ronny, comes out, Ralph comes out, and Johnny comes out. Teddy runs offstage. New Editions security are on the stage. Guy's security comes on the stage. EVERYBODY starts fighting! It's pandemonium! Microphone stands are being swung! This shit goes on for 15-20 minutes. So, finally, the stage is cleared. About an hour of waiting goes by. MC Hammer hits the stage, and starts singing "Self destruction, ya headed for self destruction!". That night was nuts!

However, when they dropped NE Heartbreak, they earned my respect. It was the first NE album I ever bought except for greatest song hits CD’s years later. Guy, on the other hand I loved right out of the gate. They were more adult sounding and hard-hitting.

Not me. I have been a fan of R&B all of my life. New Edition were kids when they came out. I was a kid when they came out. I'm a straight male and was an instant fan of New Edition. I matured as they matured. I became a bigger fan of their music after Johnny Gill joined and allowed their sound to mature. Guy were an adult group. It just so happened that their album/sound took the world by storm. Guy probably had, arguably, the best album the year they debuted. I have all of the New Edition albums and all of the Guy albums. New Edition has a better collection of work.....

I WAS THERE ... It Was 1988/89, New Edition Heartbreak Tour had ended. This was during the Summer at the Greensboro Coliseum in NC, GUY was performing on stage ... New Edition was the HEADLINER ! GUY had went over their allotted time and audio sound was pulled. NE came on Stage had words with GUY, and ALL-OUT Fight broke out right on the STAGE. GUY never came back. NE apologized and gave a STAR STELLAR PERFORMANCE !!! 💣 🔥 🎶 🎤 🌌 🚀

Many singers have similar gimmicks on tour. Keith Sweat is know for picking big girls up on stage and singing to them. If you see them more than once or catch a video, it is apparent that they do it all the time. I also saw the late great Roger Troutman bring a big girl on stage and serenade her. He also put his face someplace that would lead to a me too charge today. Prince used to bring a king size bed in stage.

Great era of music. I was at the show for a minute everybody thought both groups were going to sing together. Then everything went left fast. The show turned into the WWE it was wild. Then after things got settled NE performed like nothing happened. Still wished Guy would've got to finish their set though.

The local radio stations didn't play New Edition or Guy's music for about two to three weeks, after the incident. It wad disrepectful for New Edition to set up production while Guy was performing. After this incident in NC, Teddy Riley said his security team went out and bought baseball bats. They attacked New Edition’s road crew in Pittsburgh, which was the next tour date. After the attack on the crew, one member of New Editions road crew chased and shot one of Guy’s crew, in front of the nearby hotel. That’s the shooting death that Riley said caused him to want to leave Guy.

From what I understand, they moved past it a long time ago and both groups are friendly with each other. In fact, just a few months after this incident, the two groups were on stage together literally with arms around each other presenting an award, I think at the Soul Train Awards. From what I understand, they moved past it a long time ago and both groups are friendly with each other. In fact, just a few months after this incident, the two groups were on stage together literally with arms around each other presenting an award, I think at the Soul Train Awards. Not sure, but I think that was the show.
They have since toured together, I believe. My wife saw them in concert.
