I have an old Ajax 3 vice with 6" jaws, that I use all the time. I think these are much better and more solid than the modern vices. I enjoyed your video very much which has given me inspiration to restore mine when I get the time - probably during the winter. I am currently restoring a Millennium Garage Jack that is probably circa 120 years old, as I think projects like this are important to retain our industrial history.
I wouldn't of bothered too shave some of the steel off from the sides of the jaws or the anvil i would have just left it in it's original condition, I keep all my Record Made In England Vices as Well as a couple of woodworking vices one is made by Marples England & the other is made by Keen Croydon England all in there original condition, I'm not the type of guy too restore things i like whatever it is too be in original condition, I will clean them up a bit & oil & grease them like i do with other tools, I have a vice like that AJAX STEEL 2, But mine is a Record Made In England No.112 this is my largest & heaviest vice at the moment it weighs about 35kg roughly, This is one of Record Made In England heaviest & largest vices it's not the largest or heaviest there is also smaller vices & bigger Record vices No.110, No.111, No.113, No.114, & also No.23, No.24, No.25, No.26 Their is also the Record Leader Vice 14 i'm not sure if there is larger & smaller ones of these, These are the larger vices but there is other Record Vices that are big, Their is also the huge Record Made In England Vices like the No.514 & bigger these are huge Google search these i have also seen one for sale on eBay, There is lot's of different vices Made In England Samsonia, Paramo, Parkinsons, Woden, Keen, Marples, too name a few Record Irwin are not of the same quality as Record Made In England, All those companies made wood working vices & engineers & mechanics etc vices, There is also lot's of other brands of vices from the U.S & other parts of the world, I had never seen AJAX STEEL Vices until i was looking on eBay last week or whenever it was they we're made in Coventry.
Thanks for watching, I too have a Record 112 vice and I actually have a video off it on my channel! Yeah the Ajax vices are a bit of and odd one, I won this at a local auction and decided that it needed to be saved!
@@worseforwearrestoration924 Is that AJAX STEEL 2 about the same size as a Record No.110 or No.111 ? I have never seen any other sizes in person too try & compare only the No.112 which i already have, The Record Made In England Vices i have are 2 x No.00, 1 x No.0, 1 x No.1, 1 x No.3, 1 x No.80 Record Imp, 1 x No.4, 1 x No.112, 1 x Marples England Wood Working Vice, 1 x Keen Made In Croydon England Wood Working Vice.
@@worseforwearrestoration924 Yes i obviously didn't finish watching the video of you restoring the No.112 it looked really good, I did read what you put in the description about not removing the battle scars etc, etc, Painting a vice would probably be the furthest i would ever go too restoring a vice if all it really needs is a clean & greasing etc, etc, Some of the restoring i see people do on vices i think why ? Why not just keep it in it's original condition, But we could all say that with so many thing's, I don't need or want things looking brand new i like things in original untouched condition.
@@neil9242 it's in-between a record no.4 and record number 112 if that makes sense? Yeah I get what you mean, but then other people comment on videos saying you don't do enough! I think it's just all personal preference.

Great restoration.
This was a fantastic video to sit, watch, and sip bourbon to.
Nicely done, I like that its got some marks left. The result is very symbiotic! And I think I know the color :-)

80/100
Video needs better lighting.
Change camera angle so that your hands do not block the camera view
