- Dan Kinsey is a 7x land speed record holder. He worked for years at S&S Cycles in Viola, Wisconsin, both as a machinist and performance tester. Early in his career, Dan tested and rode S&S Performance motorcycles as his day job. The machines included gas and nitro methane 'sit on' bikes as well as a nitro burning streamliner.
Kinsey talks about the legends he worked with, including George Smith-both father and son, as well as Warner Riley and Denis Manning who were both legends in motorcycle land speed racing. Illustrated with archival images and film footage, Dan talks about the thrills and hazards of racing on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Amazing People in amazing times , thank you all !
What a great interview - Dan is realy another legend with a super interesting history. Had to watch it again - a year later.
That was an Awesome Video! Thanks for always sharing these wonderful Stories, I Love the Historic Images that You weave into the Video.
As a racer I loved the stories. Very understated on how really hard Bonneville racing is.
What a nice slice of Land Speed Racing History. Thanks again FilmFischer ! Who's next ? Please keep these great stories coming .
S&S engines are great stuff and so is this video. Learned a lot from this. Like to make it out there before I'm too old to do so. The only place where you can speed and not go to court for it.
Wrong! Come to Germany...we still have german Autobahns with no speed limits ! You can go as fast as you want...if you have the balls for it."Speed kills - drive a Porsche and live forever!"
I was there in 86' and 87' and remember seeing the Bub streamliner in the pit area with paint and stickers scraped off the sides. One of thoes years.
HOO-RA !, mon amour...fine product.
Ya know, the best thing 'bout those ruddy S-flats is when they bloody-well gift you with a patch of road-rash, the salt immediately begins the healing process...and lets you know that you "did something bad", too! 💋
I would like to sit down and talk with this man.. I would like to know more about the motor modifications..
Sounds like S&S has an Impressive History .. 200 MPH is just a bit faster than Burt Monroe went with his 1922 Indian in the 1960's
Is it really salt on those flat, like could you put it on your chips?
Yes. It is salt. More like rocksalt but rocksalt is real salt.
Yes it’s real salt
Salty hey? Land parachutes you'd think would be safer than falling from the air. NOTE TO SELF ~ Don't breath the nitro. Thank you Bonneville Stories.
just send it
S&S engines are a pure harley ripoff aren't they?
And we're better for it. Pushing the envelope really only works when someone else wants to push it further.
IMPROVED NOT RIPPED. ;)
