Lolly Vegas, I was told, said, “One day I hope we will be seen as a band, not a Native American band”. I think 2020 has shown us why this is important.
Everyone saw them as a good band my older family Is all white and were huge fans of them in the 70’s. They saw them as a great funky band with some Native American motifs in their music. Stop getting so hung up on imagined prejudices
Well they got their wish. All these years I never knew they were Native American. Only know now because Big said so. Said it's an old snagging song. Does snagging mean making out? Don't want to presume...
Being part Cherokee myself when I read about Redbone I said "Right On". Growing up in the 70's was best. This song still sounds good today in 2023. A little info on - Redbone is an American rock band famous for the tune “Come And Get Your Love,” pulled together through their Native American and Mexican heritage. The members come from backgrounds in the Cherokee, Apache, Shoshone, and Yaqui tribes, just to name a few, When Redbone came onstage, they would mic the stage floor to sound like a herd of buffalo to honor their heritage. A worth addition to our artists you didn’t know were Native American list.
I'm an old guy, born in '46, but somehow I missed Redbone back when. As soon as I heard Come and Get Your Love - just a few months ago - I had to know more about them and their music. Absolutely wonderful, and I can't stop listening. Why? Because those men so clearly loved their music and were having fun. That kind of energy and skill do not come from people who hate what they are doing. They hardly could keep the smiles off their faces while performing. They have given me a wondrous gift!
I was born in 46 also and missed them. Just found them on utube and love them especially Lolly Vegas. Love his voice and guitar playing. They are all good.
This particular song ❤...my dad and I singing it in 73ish driving on a dusty dirt road on the rez... this was one of Redbones greatest hits.... their vibe was so progressive for the times that most people missed it ... also many of their other songs were banned from radio play in the US in the 70s and 80s for being too political ...none of us cared about the radio bann ...we found a way to get all the albums n played them nonstop at the highest volume possible ..RIP Lolly 🙏
There was a Memorial for mothers of raped murdered and missing daughters at First Nations on the Grand by Brantford and Ohsweken Ontario. This is where Robbie Robertson is from. The last band that played before the Mothers spoke introduced this their last song as an old Indian Love Song. They nailed it!
We've had a drought here for many months with no rain in sight. Forest fires all around our mountains. I danced with REDBONE last night on the RUclips. This morning it is raining. The power of the spirit is strong.
Lol! We sell at farmer's markets up here in Canada, and my husband (Metis) looked up at the sky. He saw other people started to look up at the sky because he was. He started packing up to move to another market, but other people thought that because he was Native, he 'knew' something, so many other vendors packed up and left because just my husband did!
I was seriously in love with Lolly back then.... watching now, I still am ❤️ RIP Lolly, still remembering Redbone & your great talent. One for the ages.

I love how the lead singer wears Nudie suits like Gram Parsons, the early 70’s were fantastic, saw Redbone over and over, for free coz my bff was dating their tour manager. We heard about Jim Morrison’s death at a Redbone concert when we were 16. They were a great band.
