Christmas in the 1980s was colourful, exciting and I LOVED it .. as an 80s child I don't think there was anything better. The Quality Street tins were bigger, the toys more awesome and the music epic. I found this video really touching to made and it made me remember a lot of things from my childhood.
Today I have been to explore a Stately Home .. but not as we know it. Hanbury Hall is a National Trust property in the UK and every year they decorate it to take it back in time to the 1980s when the property was rented out for people to hold parties. I absolutely love the tacky 80s décor against the grandeur of the antiques and expensive furniture.
The Christmas experience at Hanbury Hall is on until the 7th of January 2024. Entrance is free to National Trust members or £14.40 for none members.
If you liked the this video please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing. It really inspires me to make more videos and improve.

5:34 The episode of Only Fools being shown on that vintage tv is one called 'Yesterday Never Comes', involving a supposed Queen Anne cabinet that Del is trying to sell, and a lady called Miranda who is after the old painting on Del's wall. and the episode did indeed get a viewing figure of 10.6m, but was broadcast on 1st December 1983. The episode broadcast on Xmas day, 1983 called 'Thicker Than Water' involved the only appearance of Del's dad Reg, who tried to befirend Rodney and come between him and Del just to spite Del, and that episode was watched by 10.8m. The three episodes that aired in between those two dates got even higher audience figures.

It's brilliant isn't it? I have a NT membership so I might try and go back before it is closed to really soak it up without the camera in tow. Thanks for your kindness x

    Excellent.
    Thank you for this treat.
Christmas 1982 was pretty grim. I spent Christmas day in my NBC Suit, waiting miserably in a shelter until further orders. I was accompanied by 27 likewise attired, unhappy lads who wanted to be anywhere but here. The 24 hr ration packs were not the finest to be frank. Not the finest Christmas that one.

Ohhh yes rough! I went though a real obsession with watching ration pack videos - some of them much better than others!

@@throughlucyslens I often use the modern MREs when I go camping. My goodness these are excellent. We were issued with stuff that had been manufactured in the 1970s. They were beyond their expiry dates. Nothing but; Cup-a-soups, crackers, tea bags, coffee sachets, sugar, Biscuits, Spam or tinned stews, boiled sweets, a tiny bar of chocolate, along with other naff sundries. Loving your work Lucy. Thank you.

As an 80s kid I haven’t yet seen, but expected garish multi coloured shiny decorations hanging from the ceilings, not paper streamers.
Maybe that was considered classier and our sort were too working class…😮

... we had the shiny foil ones too ... you are in my gang .. we never had paper streamers either!
