Today, we are making this badass leather chest piece for an upcoming LARP. I will be playing a rogue, so I wanted to make armor that would match his shadowy nature... Let's see how nice I can make this

I was manically looking for guides that made armor like this last night and the gods have spoken by providing this
😘
Damn, I was gonna comment the same. I've wanted to make a piece like this for ages: this video gave me both motivation and directions ❤
There’s only one god, zer, and he doesn’t dress like that.
@@Gomezli16And what do we say to the God of death?
Most impressive thing is how well Maddie captured the essence of your nose in that sketch
LOL. Poor thing has to stare at it enough while editing the videos. Probably haunts her nightmares.
The nose... its haunts me...
I've been drooling over Rumpelstiltskin's croc outfit from Once upon a time ...... I think this might have just pushed me over the edge.
Do it! That was an amazing costume.
Dew it.
Dude, it's a CRIME that Tandy Leather doesn't sponsor you. Awesome job. I think I'm going to build my own version of this.
23:52 - that's the "Medieval Fonz" look, right there!
It really does look like a slick biker vest.
Gotta love the overall look of thief armor. At my local Ren Faire this year I was looking for a sign to go as my rogue character. I guess this is that sign!
We always choose rogue. Its the best class.
It’s always fun to see how giddy you get when a design comes to life. And beautiful design work by Madi as always!
23:34 CLEVER. Hear me out. The mask on the nightingale hood, with some little LEDs for the tiny blue eyes.
Awesome build!! Love this channel so much
I am working through your leather sling project right now and nowww I HAVE to replay Skyrim. This armor is INCREDIBLE!!! You are an incredible leather worker!
BOSS YOUR THE REASON why i want to start sewing stuff and make my way back into larp again... AWESOME VERY AWESOME
Yeah, this is an outstanding "level-up" project. Really sharp-looking design and execution. Now to design myself something...
3:31 lets goooooooo!!!! Proud of you bro, take a +1 to strength
4:37 I know this isn't a 3D modeling tutorial, but this is the best physical example of UV mapping/unwrapping I've seen.
I was thinking the same thing!
Looks amazing!
One thing you could have added would be more overlap things like you did with the collar.
That way, if you have to make the armor wider, it wouldn't leave the gaps as visible.
2:30 rubing alcohol or isopropal alcohol will also work for removing sharpy.
Maybe magic eraser too?
@@ShisaAi Humm, I’ve never tried it. Let me know if that works.
the alcohol in hand sanatiser works as well! Perfect for if you're in a pinch
Dry erase markers, too. Just scribble over the sharpie and wipe off.
@@BeckettSmeckett I've done that a time or 2 lol
Bad ass! With the lining, and the edging, and the gator print... Blew my mind how good that looks...
You explained all the steps really well. As someone who’s never done leather crafting before, I could still follow along and understand what you were doing. Great video and beautiful armor!
Yes!! A good chest piece was exactly what I was missing!
Absolutely beautiful. Your leather skills have certainly improved. Your mixing of textures and fabrics rock, and inspire. Keep it up. Very glad I discovered this channel years ago. Huge fan.
btw, for collars, if you want to be fancy, look up the keystone cutting guide, they have instructions to draft all sorts of collars
Saw this comment, looked it up on thriftbooks, and ordered it
It's going to come in really handy for making the "detachable collars" I want to add to my "Edwardian Hobbit Librarian" wardrobe
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Such an elegant design and properly fitting armor I imagine elves are jealous on how elegant it is.
As someone who larps has a half elf...yes I am jealous. Lol
Damn dude! Those biceps be poppin! Whatever you're doing is working, keep at it my man!
Awww. Thanks! My health was getting janky and I decided to try my hand at making an effort, lol, so that means a lot!
FYI my comment was made before I saw you address this in the video. Hell yeah man!
As a person who LARPS 2 sometimes 3 times a month, I can absolutely promise that the lighter your armor the better especially if you’re LARPING in the summer time. I have half plate, a Gambeson and leather lamellar that I wear for the same character all depending on the weather. IMHO, it’s perfectly ok to prioritize your health and comfort over complete accuracy, especially in more fantasy leaning games!
A way to form your leather without mudding up your edges is to lay it face down on a thick piece of foam and use your ball to form it from the back by pressing down, you can shape the center without ever having to pull the edges
Or historical method is sand bags or a carved out stump
@@cbjewelz that's neat, I didn't know that
Not Gator skin (unless it was taken from Gator Loki) but dragon skin. A light leather that gives a minimum of +3 protection from bladed weapons. Looks Great!
And the leather itself is fire proof, but beyond that provides no additional protection, like fire resistance... like netherite in minecraft, no additional fire protection, but after a swim in lava the armor will be just fine on the pile of ash of its former owner.
Dude that armour looks dope. I definitely am gonna say you leveled up in armour smithing. Using that gator print totally gives me hiccup from how to train your dragon vibes and again I think its dope. Keep leveling up dude
You could also try rounding your leather lace! I just learned how to do that so I’m a little obsessed, but it’s super easy and makes it go smoother through grommets and things. You just wet the lace and roll in between two flat things, I use my counter top and a leftover trim board since they’re smoothest, then you get super cool slick looking round lace
I was JUST wondering how to do this! Thanks you!!!
As for armor leather, yes it is 10-12 oz. it is also hammer jacked (compressed) and sometimes boiled in oil and wax to harden it.
As someone with a character that has dragonskin armor, I absolutely might have to steal this idea
That Armor has so many places for an Assassin's dagger to slip through.
Now too make hardened leather armor. +1 versus edge weapons, +2 versus bludgeoning weapons, +3 to being badass.
for times you want evenly spaced holes, or other marked points, there is a very cool tool that takes the math out of it, so you can find exactly where each hole should fall. it is called a Trend Point-2-Point Equidistant Measuring. they are under $30. you either decide how many holes/marks you want, and spread the tool so that many fit in your space, or you can just spread it, untill the points on it look right for the space, telling you how many to put in, and the spacing. this is a very cool video, and I like that armor. I just thought you might like the tool, as it makes spacing and placing holes so much faster, and precise
Ooh, something I can make!
Man thats a sharp looking piece of armor. I agree the alligator leather really sets it off 🔥
On the coat of plates armor there seems to be an underlay piece that goes on the split lines where you lace-up or buckle that could be a nice addition to have for you know theoretical protection on the butting joints. Plus if you add some general Kenobi pauldrons. The look could go sci-fi
I can't wait to join up and show off some crafts I have been working on!
23:54 caught me off guard 🤣
I love your energy!
Dude it was Surreal to meet you! , Keep being awesome
Hey! Can you make a drum soon? I wanna rock out on the battlefield, and keep it safe for my peeps!
I think you should’ve went with a really dark blue because (speaking from experience) black actually sticks out in the dark way more than you’d think 👍
Absolutely fabulous! I want one, I believe I would wear that piece as an everyday accouterment. I can't wait for the rest of the story.
With your desire to armor-fy your foam...wrap them with 1-2oz chrome tanned leather.
using the embossed leather was inspired and definitely leveled up this piece. I love it!
It's a very nice piece of armor! I've been having issues with my own due to a much rounder midsection than your's, but trial-and-error will see me through. Hopefully!!! 😁
I BELIEVE in you!!!! Also, you are far too kind. Thank you for all of your support!
The term Leather Neck, I had heard was based upon protecting your neck with a leather collar while fighting Barbary Pirates. Word had it the pirates like chopping head off the necks. So make yourself a good leather collar.
"underlap" 👏 *_exactly_* the right word 🤓❣🤓
I'm super impressed by this armor! I'm intrigued by the belt you mentioned too. I hope it's like a super thick weightlifter belt with like three buckles on it
You may not.be sponsored by them, but they have you featured in their current catalog. You could probably ask them if they would like to sponsor you.
They did around a year ago, and later sent him the electric leather sewing machine for him to review, and keep, free of charge! Maybe again soon...
@@jmoneyjoshkinion4576 yep, that's what the channel is shown on in the advert
This is so cool!! Good on you mate!
That is one sweet looking piece of Armour.
maybe add sum blackened steel plates to strategic parts of the armour so it could actually stop a knife blade in critical areas
I love these project looks so cool
Ugh! I love it! Looks great!
WOW! JUST WOW!
That's an incredible nice piece. I really love the details.
Only one small detail i would have changed: i don't like it all black, i think the gator parts would have looked great in a dark color like green or blue, with some antiquing to pop the details
Love the armor dude!
that looks great Clever!!
As always, fantastic
This is such a great video, it gives me courage to try more leather working 💕
Love that armor design !
Right?? It came out soooo coooooool
Great capstone effort! Looks wonderful!
I think a black feather mantle would look good with this.
That armour is just awesome!!
A quality project to show your progress, level +1
I hope to see you one day make a brigandine with actual metal plates inside.
That is gorgeous. Definitely a level up project!
Sharpie uses an alcohol based ink so you can use alcohol to remove it as well
As usual…great design, great construction and great end-product! Thank you for making this video!
looks so cool
Really excited to see your videos on conquest. I wish I could go but I have to settle just seeing it
This pleases me.⚒
Then my quest is complete! 😁
Your best project yet - fantastic project - and love your entertaining way to show how to make things - thanks!
Really can't describe how much I love watching these. Tandy, how the heck you are not sponsering them?!? Thinking about using this for SCA armor. Going to Pensic LI this year. Custom War armor... and lined?
You have outdone yourself sir.
Great job , definitely beyond journeyman level. Super cool 😎
Excellent content as always 👌
Another great thing in the box
Swole Clever is leveling up his fit.
Beautiful piece Cl3ver, excellent job.
I think that after you finish this armor set, you should remake your foam golem to better represent your current figure
Very cool design. Love it❤
So tempted to skip all my current projects to make it 😂
Glad to see you're still going strong my old friend. Congrats on the 100k+ your $h!@ is still amazing!!
Thank you! So good to see you here! I hope you are doing well!
Great job this is the best one so far keep it going
Very nice!
This is so sick 🤘
Looks great! Wish I had the time off to go to a Larp this year but I'm going to Rabbitstick primitive skills gathering so there's that
this is a great project!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
So damn cool, what a beautiful project. The gator texture and the shaping in the chest really paid off.
already Subbed, liked loved and shared on my social media :)
Thank you so much! Sharing especially is one of the best things you can do for the channel!
Great job
Sick gains, bro!
Absolutely stunning piece, well done! It would be really cool if you did an abdominal section as well
Check back in next week! This armor is going to be a series...
The best yet!
Bro! For real?? I haven't even watched the video but just judging by the intro that armor is awesome!!
very cool. have you thought of using a strechy chrome tan for some of the sides?
Awesome job, you
Good. You have achieved actual medieval breastplate shape. There is a reason this exact cut existed. Now make the rest of that suit of armour. Preferredly a Gothic fantasy style, leaning towards what Sauron would wear (i.e. something spikey).
That’s Dope
Ok so in regards to this, is there absolutely any way you could do a tutorial on what to wear UNDER leather armor? Gambeson, pants, etc. sometimes I need a bit more inspiration than just google shopping 😂
Conquest 2025 is already on my calendar. This year, life sux and reality unfortunately must take precedence over awesomeness. Thanks for helping me level up.
No worries man, life ALWAYS takes priorities. We will just be extra excited to see you next year!
Hey CLEVER, when evr you get time to or if you would like to, could you possibly show how to make a female version of the chest piece or even go over so basic combat moves so we can learn? Also keep up the amazing work I love your channel!
