Oh man, that Roberta Flack, Killing Me Softly. Very significant song in my young life. Had a huge impact during my first listening exposure to music. I did mention about it in another video about how a cousin of mine explained this song to me and what it meant. Great to see that cover album again. Thanks Kenny!,
I recently bought Alice Cooper Welcome To My Nightmare and Phil Collins Face Value,Hello I Must Be Going. I pre ordered Genesis Trick of Tail,Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme .
I signed up for option #3 which, based on my experience w/ Analogue Production releases that I had bought for many years, made more sense to me. I think this collection is a great idea, even though there are many killer titles that didn’t make it to the list, and many people are upset about it and some don’t want to get up to change a 45 rpm record, I would be happy to move from my seat even if every song was on a separate record. I think this could be a good start for future collections that never made it to be an audiophile pressing. Thank you Kenny for sharing your valuable albums and for the great videos!
I hope that you enjoy this series, hopefully they will add more great artists over the three years. Thank you very much for your comments and taking the time to watch my video ✌️
I watched an interview/conversation with Chad on the "michael 45 rpm audiophile" channel . On it Chad says that at this time Aretha Franklin's estate has not been willing to go along with the program. He made it sound like negotiations were ongoing. let's hope everyone can come to an agreement that works for everyone.
I was puzzled with the Dusty In Memphis? I have the double 45 and it’s TAS listed so why reissue it in this series? I preordered 5 titles all Coltrane. Coltrane Sound, Ole’ Coltrane, Coltrane Jazz, My Favorite Things and Giant Steps. Some of the Ray Charles and Otis Redding are already out in audiophile quality so I question those too. Thanks for another great video!
Love your choices and suggestions! You know, with Atlantic Records, they were into stereo(binaural back in the early 50's), before other record labels. Back in the 1950's, Ampex built custom 8-track tape recorders for both Les Paul and Atlantic Records, before stereo records were introduced. Knowing this, I'm just not going to buy mono versions of albums in the "Atlantic 75" series when there was probably the chance of stereo versions existing. Maybe if it was a double release of both stereo and mono versions would I consider buying a stereo version. It is true that there was a warehouse fire back in 1975? where the original session tapes had been destroyed. But, Atlantic had retained the original album and singles masters, so they were not involved in the fire. If you remember, after stereo records had been introduced, the major record labels began releasing stereo 45's alongside mono 45's. Atlantic records also was involved. As they still had the early stereo 45's master tapes, few have been included in CD releases. Warner Special Products released some compilations , like "Atlantic Soul Classics" on CD. Many of the original stereo versions included have disappeared in later releases. During the time when Atlantic Records was distributing the Stax Records group, the recordings had originally been recorded in multi-track. When Stax split from Atlantic, Atlantic opened it's own recording studio and stole away some of the main behind-the-scenes Stax personnel. Of the stereo recordings on the collection included "What'd I Say" by Ray Charles. When this song was originally released, Charles had moved on to ABC-Paramount Records. Another stereo track is "Yakety Yak" by the Coasters. Atlantic had released this on a stereo45 originally on their ATCO label. It has disappeared since. Of Atlantic Studios Memphis output included recordings by Wilson Pickett, like "In The Midnight Hour". On the CD in stereo, that version has also disappeared. The main focus of Atlantic Records, like Cameo-Parkway, was on singles, so that is maybe why the Atlantic re-issues have been the mono versions. Somebody needs to stand up and become the hero and start releasing the stereo versions. Back in the early days when Rhino was issuing CD compilations, producer Bill Inglot was using true stereo versions when available. Having spoken with him personally, Bill told me when the mono version was far superior to the stereo version, he opted for the mono version. I like the 45rpm album re-issues. They definitely have superior sound. Just like on the 45rpm singles, they can use a hotter mix. Way back when, some 45 singles were way too hot, especially those from Motown. Many were unplayable on decent stereos and radio stations often had to use the LP versions when available. Motown's goal was to make their 45's hot enough that they could be played on minimal record players, which they felt that most buyers of their 45's had. They were mixed so hot that you could hear them with the amps very weak. You could hear the vibrations coming from the needles. In the 1970's, eventhough still mono, Motown began using more conventional mixes. Later in the 1970's, when Motown had started releasing their 45's in stereo, hot mixes just wouldn't do. Yep, 45rpm LP's are the way to go. Classical record labels discovered this decades ago.
I ordered the Genesis and Yes LPS AND SACDs and the 2 Phil Collins albums. I am on the fence whether many of the others will be a SACD or 45 purchase, but I will likely purchase the majority of the series.
I hope that you enjoy the albums and SACDs that you preordered when they are released and the rest as you purchase them...I plan to purchase several more when they are released as well.
Thank you! Sorry for not commenting the last videos - at the moment i have too much work to do. Health to you and your family, love, and to all of your viewers. best regards from berlin
Kevin Grey just did Coltrane’s Sound for Rhino. I love that album but considering it was just done, I think it’s an odd choice. Thanks for the video! 😁
I'm quite happy with my Mono/Stereo deluxe 60th anniversary release of My Favorite Things but for Giant Steps I only have a waxtime so I preordered that. Anyway I rate Giant Steps much higher than Favourite Things, there I mostly like the B side. Interesting times ahead with tthis series, there will be plenty to talk about once these things start shipping!
I have that Manhattan Transfer with "Twilight Zone" on it, and I have "Vocalese" on CD. Don't know if I'd need them remastered. I have a significant backlog of LPs that I've haven't even played, including 4 more I bought today; though I'm not playing records these days, I seem to be buying them! I'd need to go through my records to see if there's anything I'd want remastered. I have "Giant Steps" as part of a Coltrane box set (:The Heavyweight Champion: The Complete Atlantic Recordings"), and haven't played it yet. So, I wouldn't order any of the reissues unless I really wanted them and had the money. I'd have to be in full-on "collector" mode at that point.
I think since the Manhattan Transfer was a very good vocal group, they would sound great on a remastered 45rpm format...thanks you very much for your comments 😊
I like the variety, I don't like that he decided to do it in 45 rpm format. I much rather have a $40 33rpm version than a $60 45 rpm version. I'll probably get Giant Steps and Mingus Blues & Roots, and skip the rest. Some of these choices are odd. I just bought Coltrane Sound from Rhino and that sounds great already. I also bought My Favorite Things 60th anni pressings. Sounds good also for only $25. I think Chad is catering to the 45 rpm crowd here
I'm a bit worried about some of the albums being broken up across multiple discs (Yes - Close to the Edge and Genesis - Trespass both now two discs. Where as, 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' will now be four discs) Chad says how the breaks are at natural break points but I believe it will still spoil the flow of the album. Particularly in relation to the tracks 'Close to the Edge' and Genesis's 'Suppers Ready' on Trespass. Both of those tracks take up an entire side of their respective albums. I don't just listen to albums for their sonic quality, I also like and very used to hearing these tracks as a whole piece. However, I may still give them a go. If I don't like them then I can always get rid.
Double 45 sounds great but it interrupts the listening experience. Having to change the record side after two songs can be a distraction. Especially if you are like me and often listen in the dark.
I applaud Chad for the variety of titles. I have preordered two titles and they are not Jazz titles even though I am a Jazz fan. I wish Chad could press Led Zeppelin and Ornette Coleman but that will never happen.
for those that don't like 45 rpm i have your solution please buy a quality reel to reel machine and tape the 2 records at 7.5 ips or even better if you can afford it at 15 ips and you won't have to get out up out of your seat to change sides withe very little loss of fidelity unless you have golden ears if that's too expensive another option is a high quality cassette deck nakamichi, TEAC, pioneer, Technics others maybe using dbx high quality NOS tape cro2 0r metal 90 min TDK, Maxell, Fuji tapes last option quality CD recorder record 45 rpm vinyl on to blank cd won't be pure analog on playback but still sound quite good because won't be compressed that much
I saw that published and I just rolled my eyes in disgust. It's the same usual audiophile stuff we see every 2 or 3 years. Atlantic started out as a jazz/R&B label but I didn't see much of that genre in the list. I had expected to see more Modern Jazz Quartet. The issue of the lack of Aretha revolves around her estate and publishing rights. But I would love to see some. Wilson Pickett. Another issue may involve of simply finding those albums' master tapes and the condition of those tapes. Think back to the great Universal storage fire and what was believed to be lost. I would like some of the albums be released in original mono mixes but that won't happen.
I'm hopeful that they can work out a licensing deal with the estate of Aritha Franklin because it's would be a shame not to have some of her records as part of the anniversary series. I agree with you about the Modern Jazz Quartet.
Disappointed if this was the long awaited big announcement by Acoustic Sounds. … Mostly old hats which can be found as good OGs and much cheaper than these 45s which will cost in Europe 90+ USD plus shipping and that‘s ridiculous. Also, ripping of some of the long Genesis songs into pieces is close to a crime.
I’m not a fan of a single album being released on 2LP at 45RPM. Let alone at $60. I think Chad has pretty bland and predictable taste. Many of the 75 titles illustrates that.
I agree Manhattan Transfer titles would be well deserving of an audiophile reissue. Great channel.
Thank you very much 😊 ✌️
Your are by far the best record reviewer on RUclips! Honest and straight to the point!
That was very kind of you to say that. Thank you very much, I sincerely appreciate it 😊 ✌️

The one i'm most looking forward to is the Crosby Stills Nash Couch album but i'll also be getting Giant Steps and a couple others
I'm definitely looking forward to Giant Steps.

There's no Genesis - Trespass in this series .
