DCR Tytherington Quarry Stone, Part 1; DCR 60029 seen at Horfield Bank, Yate & Tytherington Quarry

  • DCR Class 60 60029 "Ben Nevis" has been in regular use recently running an almost daily return trip between Hanson's Appleford Sidings and Tytherington Quarry.
    Part 1:-
    Hauling 6Z21 0700 Appleford Sidings to Tytherington on the 9th January 2023 the Class 60 is seen hauling the empty JNAs up Horfield Bank, taking the freight only single line branch at Yate, and then loading & running around at Hanson's Tytherington Quarry.

    Part 2 (through Iron Acton and being held at Yate)
    Part 3 (arriving, running around and eventually departing Bristol Parkway)

    The track ends just before the tunnel that used to allow trains to come down to what is now tesco's in thornbury. I remember the railyard, the old station house and engine shed before they all got demolished, john shipp had his coal yard there after for many years. My mother has a light from the waiting room hanging over the dining room table.

    Pity this line isn't open to passenger traffic. This could take so much traffic off the A38
