I do own a 50mm f2 loxia and I have to say it's the best manual lens I've ever used beside a Voigtländer 65mm f2 APO and the Zeiss biogon 35mm f2. I'll never sell it as I'm regret a lot that I sold the Biogon.
Unlike Batis, Zeiss Loxia lenses probably have Zeiss ZE/ZF's colors, rendering and microcontrast, which was probably why it's priced highly, though Batis 135mm is different and seems to have those sparkles as well.
I would probably actually go for the new Samyang AF 85mm F1.4 instead and use the difference on something else. The Samyang has beautiful rendering and works pretty well.

Certain lenses really have the magic to them.

Agreed. The Batis lenses are not really an example of Zeiss specialness.
Question. If you had to buy today, Sony 85mm 1.8 or Sony 85mm 1.4 GM?

Dustin Abbott thanks
Just looking at that lens is enough for me - nice review man
It's lovely.
The images look beautiful from this lens. Sharp and great micro contrast like you said. Thank you for the detailed review
It's definitely go those quality in spades.
Beautiful lens! I have the 24mm f2 ZA Distagon T* that renders amazing, sharp, clean images paired with A7iii + LA-ea3. AF works great too.
Zeiss makes some beautiful glass.
Would you choose this or the new 24mm 2.8g?
Good question. The Sony is the more convenient lenses for a lot of reasons, though the Loxia delivers slightly more special images.
Btw, i also had a loxia 21mm f2.8 and eas not as near as excized as with the 50mm
Definitely a different kind of lens with a different kind of rendering.
Thanks for a great review.
What is the brand or name of the focus stick you are using in the video?
The "Focus Shifter" bhpho.to/2GoFhRJ
works with the sony alpha A7III??
Absolutely.
Rilly, rilly great review!
