Not hitmen. Just regular Mafia members who become equipped with shotguns and are hostile to Claude. In the missions “Espresso-2-Go!” and “Big’n’Veiny” the mafia have their guns replaced with uzi’s, and in those two missions along with “Rigged To Blow” gangs won’t attack you unless provoked.
This is why I always try to complete the Rampages and find all the Hidden Packages in Portland at the very beginning of the game, that way I don’t have to worry about it after “Sayonara Salvatore”.
Whenever I 100% any of them old GTA games I always like to do everything in particular city/island before I proceed with the story missions, that way I close whole chapter and move on to another with nothin behind to comeback Here in GTA III its a must cuz if you were to comeback to Turismo or fuckin Vigilante missions youre gonna have a difficult time dealing with St Mark’s shotties

The thing about the Definitive Edition is that vehicles blow up easily. After killing Leone in the original GTA III, I wasn't able to drive through St. Mark's quite easily.
Exact reason why you complete all El Burro , Marty Chonks , taxi , vigilante , firefighter side missions , unique stunts , rampages and all 31 possible hidden packages and steal a Mafia car before killing Salvatore . You will have to come back to Saint Marks for Espresso 2 Go for Asuka but there won't be a problem if you use the bulletproof patriot . You also have to come back to Saint Marks for Rigged To Blow for D Ice but there won't be an issue here because no gangs will shoot you on this mission .
Exact reason why you complete all that before second mission of the game. There are triads on streets who will just remove you from vehicle and cause mission to fail
I'm guessing when they were testing the original version of Rigged to Blow in the beta version of GTA III, the mission was practically impossible to beat until they nerfed The Leones in that mission.

I managed to complete the race which i think it was from El burro while using the banshee and hoo boy, best car ever and managed to survive the Mafia's shotgun blasts in full speed and funny enough, it was on fire by the time i finished the line. Best moment i ever had in game ever.
The shotguns were really overpowered in gta 3 two shots and cars explode. If anything needed change in remaster was nerf the gun or make the cars more durable. Its impossible to do side missions in Portland after killing Salvatore.
On Rigged To Blow for D Ice of th Red Jacks you have to drive from Wichita Gardens in Shoreside Vale . In this mission no gangs will shoot at you . The only 2 things you have to worry about is crashing the car or wanted levels .

it’s not Maria’s fault, you hypocrite. It’s all Salvatore’s fault. He kept being paranoid. He kept being narcissistic. He kept being distrustful. He kept betraying before someone can betray him. He kept craving endless power and domination over everything and everyone. He kept poisoning and ruining Maria’s life.

I’m sorry but he was 57 y.o. widower and he decided to marry an 18 y.o. girl who despised him at first place. It was his choice, no one forced him. Was he so stupid? He was not only stupid but very frivolous, short-sighted and insecure person who married a girl suited him to his daughter or granddaughter just for prestige and status. He never loved her, she was his trophy wife.
He lost his bread (his first wife died), he wanted some soft delicious bun (Maria) and he got it. And the most awful thing is he is a womanizer who likes very young girls as toys. He’s a frequent customer of brothels where he used services of “working girls” which means that he cheated on Maria.

I managed to complete the race which i think it was from El burro while using the banshee and hoo boy, best car ever and managed to survive the Mafia's shotgun blasts in full speed and funny enough, it was on fire by the time i finished the line. Best moment i ever had in game ever.
The shotguns were really overpowered in gta 3 two shots and cars explode.
If anything needed change in remaster was nerf the gun or make the cars more durable.
Its impossible to do side missions in Portland after killing Salvatore.

On Rigged To Blow for D Ice of th Red Jacks you have to drive from Wichita Gardens in Shoreside Vale . In this mission no gangs will shoot at you . The only 2 things you have to worry about is crashing the car or wanted levels .
I like to drive the Bulletproof Patriot around to tease the mafia.
