I imagine, as tennis players, they have tried it and they're just expressing their opinions, which are valid. They have some good points. It's slower than clay. You can't really control the point on serve. It's mostly lob, drop shot, and slice etc. But it's also possible they played it with cheap balls. If you play with cheap starter kit balls, it's incredibly difficult to play full court and can leave a poor first impression. That's what happened with me and my wife. I thought it was pretty boring and easy until we bought some good balls with a more lively bounce. I think the balls that come with kits are made taking the age demo into account and not making them too lively, so older players stay at the net and volley more and don't have to run too much.
I'm a big fan of tennis. Pickleball has a window of opportunity to become the biggest game of the 21st century. How? @@commondirtbagz7130 Because the majority of the people in the comments complaining about it haven't played it. Also, Pickleball does have a learning curve; the amount of technicality is surprising. If you are new or newish to the game and played against someone who has been playing for a while, with a competent level of skill, you will likely lose. @@americanodude okay this whole idea that people leaving these comments haven’t played is what is ridiculous. I love pickleball and play it all the time, but I'm stunned at the quality of pro players. Watching even a futures or NCAA tennis match I feel hopelessly outclassed and even if I trained seriously hard for years I could never come close to their level. Watching pro pickleball I think if I took a few solid months of training I'd be just as good. Just doesn't seem that impressive.
That's where you're wrong. It doesn't seem like much on RUclips, but once you understand that you have to hit every shot with extreme precision, you realize where the difference lies between us and them. It's hard to tell on the computer screen, but if you hit a ball thats even a foot over the net...you lose. The game is all about control, try entering a tournament at a 4.5 level and it will become clear.
@@johndoherty2743 The rally at 1:27 had plenty of shots above 1 foot landing in the kitchen. Sure the game is about control and precision but you're forgetting that tennis requires both of those attributes and MUCH MORE. I played pickleball for two days and have already caught up to my friends that only plays pickle ball (15-20 hours a week) for a year and a half.
Eduardo the red is called the kitchen, you can play in the kitchen if the ball bounces there and then you must leave it once you hit the ball back over.
I am almost sure that ball at 0:18 was out. I watched in in slow mo a dozen times. I am sure I saw it out the first time. That is why I went back. It doesn't even hit the line.
interesting. theres a sport here in spain called padel. similar, but with four walls and you can play it off wall. this has the big advantage that you can play on a tennis court. cool.
Yeah, padel is great. It's kind of a middle ground between tennis and pickleball (in how fast the ball goes and the size of the court) with the obvious addition of walls. Would love to try pickleball some day it looks fun, but to be honest it seems more limited and repetitive than padel.
I’m surprised how little power is generated or how little speed there is as a tennis player, people with good net skills can put the ball away in 3 shots max.
The kitchen is there to prevent the balls from being put away so easily. As long as you keep the ball low in the kitchen or "dump" it, the other player cannot hit an aggressive shot off of it. Its where a bad shot in tennis that is high and over the net turns out to be a good shot in pickle because they cannot volley in the kitchen
@@franklu9287 then what’s the point in trying to volley? Wouldn’t it be better trying to overpower in the back or does the ball not move fast enough for it to be viable?
@@hsy2448 Yeah the ball perforated with holes so it slows down over longer distances. That's why the strat is to lure the other team in and have net battles. This way once the opponent misses a dump, you can punish with the volley put away before the ball loses much speed. Even if you stay back, the other team will have the advantage as the kitchen becomes harder to play the farther back the you are
Pretty sure it is much easier to not step into the kitchen (box in front) using an open stance. You can’t volley if you are standing in the kitchen so closed stance might accidentally bring you into it.
You are only allowed to step into the "Kitchen" or red zone after the ball has bounced once. This creates a different kind of playing strategy where can slow down the game play with "dinking" or short hits to set up for attacks and create uncertainty.
@@Couchlover47 My bad, I shouldn't be so hard on the sport. It's great that the elderly have a new game that they can still enjoy and keep them slightly moving.
exactly. tennis is 90% running . this is mostly cordination and reflexes. I think it would be better if you just had adults play on orange ball courts with orange balls.
A lot of interesting comments by tennis players. Pickleball is a fun game that can be played by people of any physical level. It's a social activity as much as a game. All of the elite athletes can have the tennis courts to themselves.
Interesting comment, you can maybe get away with not being quite as physically fit, but on the flip side it seems to be extremely unforgiving if you aren't at a certain skill level. Unless you have the ability to keep the ball low to your opponent you're going to be getting murdered by them as they pick off your shots the NVZ line.
It's really sad to see this because pickleball is only in America because so many young people in america who are overweight or lazy don't want to run and play tennis.
After watching the U.S. Open, this looks unimpressive. But, I really like pickeball despite never having really played because my sister found something to be passionate about in this sport
yeah, looks like a giant ping pong table. Mostly volleying. If you played tennis for 40 years like me, its hard to accept this game, but it does have its own challenges but in my opinion, nothing replaces a well placed 100 mph tennis serve on the line. PB is only good exercise if you have lengthy volleys.
I know there’s a lot of people in the comments who haven’t played and I know it looks silly so this comment is meant to be informative and not at all defensive. Pickleball is way harder than it looks, the pros just make it look effortless. The rules and strategy are completely different than tennis. You’re also able to put a crap ton of spin on the ball for nearly every type of hit and your reaction time has to be insane at the NVZ to sustain those types of volleys. I play in college along with several tennis players trying to pick up the sport.
I dunno. I played for the first time this weekend. I’m old and my knees are cranky. I got so gassed I thought I was going to blow chow. I dropped by the pickle ball store and saw paddles being sold for $130. I bought mine at a CVS next to the beach chairs. I guess it’s like cycling. Hard core roadies look down their noses at anyone who’s not bleeding from their ears. I road on a gravel road to a fishing spot and felt a bit rejuvenated. Each to their own I guess.
Your body might just not be used to the activity. The more you play it, the less you'll ache. You also don't have to play with those $100+ paddles. You can easily start our with something that's like $40.
@Donald MANY of these players are/were Tennis players at VERY high levels. Nothing "wanna be" about it. Pickleball is a different sport altogether. Is NASCAR a "wanna be" Formula One sport?
@@SDPBALLCOACH nascar started by bootlegging.....pickleball started because older people couldn't get around the court. Handicap sport and always will be
To all the people who says that it's an easy child's game- just play it once and see how tough it is actually. P.s. am seeing this sport for the first time 😁😁😁
idk, i really think pickleball should be like ping pong - the ball must be let bounce once; its so easy to just come up and volley, id rather see a long rally with heavy topspin
This sport will slowly nudge tennis out of the way and bring it and Ping Pong to the forefront of all racquet sports. Tennis players will probably not be able to make the adjustments because their reaction time is that of glacial speed compared to what goes on in this sport. Only true sportsman will likely pick up Pickleball. Thanks

100% they don't understand what they are watching, I started playing in July and where I go there is one guy that plays competitively, think he's ranked at 3.5 which isn't that high and he smokes everybody else on the courts where I go. Guaranteed he would totally school these people putting the sport down, heck bet the player's I've played with that are pushing 80 would destroy a lot of these people on the court as well.
@@rivermaster6910, i play via the local senior center. there's a lot of very good 'older' players. i myself am 70, and a BK amputee. i'm willing to go up against any of the players that happen to show up. we have some players that never let the ball touch the ground. with practice, i'm able to hold my own. it's a great game. it's also a great social activity.
What is the rule on the lady hitting the ball in front of the line? 0:47
It bounced so it wasn't a volley. The box is just a no volley zone.
Great game and love it. Thank you share with us.
I played this at school before and it’s pretty fun
this is pickle ball tension to the limit
I love pickleball and play it all the time, but I'm stunned at the quality of pro players. Watching even a futures or NCAA tennis match I feel hopelessly outclassed and even if I trained seriously hard for years I could never come close to their level. Watching pro pickleball I think if I took a few solid months of training I'd be just as good. Just doesn't seem that impressive.
that's because there's no money in it. if the prizes start hitting at least 5 figures on these, you'll start seeing better trained individuals in it.
Yeah give us tennis players a couple months to rally with "PPP pros" and we can keep it competitive at 4.5> levels.
I played pickleball for two days and have already caught up to my friends that only plays pickle ball (15-20 hours a week) for a year and a half.
Tennis is a vastly more technical and athletic sport.
I play tennis 30 years and I like this game
I didn't know this was a thing. Looks like fun. 🙂🙂🙂

At least with the size of this court a lot of people could build one on their back yard.
That's how the game started- a family bought a home with a Badminton court and invented a new game to play on it.
I dont understand. Players can play in red zone or not? 3:14
Eduardo the red is called the kitchen, you can play in the kitchen if the ball bounces there and then you must leave it once you hit the ball back over.
imagine playing pickleball

great work, keeep it up
I am almost sure that ball at 0:18 was out.
It’s called platform Tennis in usa. Assuming it’s the same game
So, what ever happened to Marcin Rozpedski? I used to see him all the time but I haven't seen him in at least a year now.
Even if you stay back, the other team will have the advantage as the kitchen becomes harder to play the farther back the you are
@@franklu9287 huh I feel like I played with plastic ball with no holes in which I could hit the ball harder but ig that was the wrong ball. My bad.
@@franklu9287 so you can’t punish your opponent for making mistakes? Lame.
Is it forbidden to play closed stance volley in this game? Sorry, i get frustrated seeing this as a tennis player.
Pretty sure it is much easier to not step into the kitchen (box in front) using an open stance. You can’t volley if you are standing in the kitchen so closed stance might accidentally bring you into it.
You are only allowed to step into the "Kitchen" or red zone after the ball has bounced once. This creates a different kind of playing strategy where can slow down the game play with "dinking" or short hits to set up for attacks and create uncertainty.

exactly. tennis is 90% running . this is mostly cordination and reflexes.
I think it would be better if you just had adults play on orange ball courts with orange balls.
Total athletes.....I can barely see the ball and they are making crazy returns.
When you can't hack it at tennis and start making up sports on your own. Jokes aside it's good to see people out bring active. ✊
It's really sad to see this because pickleball is only in America because so many young people in america who are overweight or lazy don't want to run and play tennis.
You’re both idiots, don’t knock it till you try it
Why would you watch a video just to throw shade on it?
@JR88 shit! I love low brow. Best play I ever seen in tennis is when Monica got stabbed🤣
@JR88 i play it and am in average shape. It is not a low-impact sport, and playing it solo is a nice and fun exercise!
6 minutes and I saw no pickles i am disappointed
This looks so easy if have a ping pong or tennis background
I never knew such game existed till I saw the video😂

its a bastardized version of tennis .THE gold standard
I like to say, "I'm a purist" with my wooden butter churn of a paddle, as they look down their noses at me. I love the sound of the ball hitting it.
Your body might just not be used to the activity. The more you play it, the less you'll ache. You also don't have to play with those $100+ paddles. You can easily start our with something that's like $40.
this hurts my back just watching, all that bent overness

This sport will slowly nudge tennis out of the way and bring it and Ping Pong to the forefront of all racquet sports.
