there's a video from about a year ago on how Lily makes her swatch card layout. No birdie, but still a treat to watch and is fairly simple to do. :) ruclips.net/video/hRc26ygHWHg/видео.htmlsi=a_fJsKG1uHdvgNlY
Hello Lily Happy Arty New Year 2025, I have the Holbein Gouache winter set I haven’t used them much yet. Bleed proof white is just brilliant I love using that. I’m excited for you to share the Holbein gouache swatching. Beautiful Schmincke set I agree the tin is beautiful. 🥰🥰
What a kind think to say Marjorie, thank you, but I have to say all of you are much more amazing, thank you for being here, it means the world to me! ❤🥰
thank you for another very beautiful watercolor video! Enjoyed the conversation and commiserating with other quinacridone watercolor enthusiasts! Happy new year!
I will forever think of Opera colors gate crashing fugitive watercolor palette parties Derwood 😁 Thank you so much for your lovely company at the Premier 🤗
Thank you for this video! I really enjoyed seeing your excitement over your purchases-so fun! I would love to see how you build your core palette for 2025!
Happy New Year, Lily! I absolutely love the two DS quinacridones! I have one or two 15ml tubes of each in reserve. I use them a lot. Alone and in mixes.
I'm so tempted by the Schminke box, but it's entirely for the palette. I have certain colours I prefer to use from the tube, and it looks perfect for carrying a mix of tubes and pans.
Happy new year! Your channel is pure delight, and I’ve been watching your videos all afternoon. I love the aesthetic of your swatch pages and the way you express your enthusiasm for watercolour hues. Love that Schmincke palette, I got the other retro palette, but I still haven’t tried it out. That birdie is absolutely adorable ☺️ Cadmiums aren’t my favourites either, but that yellow is very pretty. It reminds me of the Schmincke’s discontinued Indian Yellow my mother had in her fifties’ Schmincke palette.
I haven’t even started watching the video yet, but I’m laughing to myself at how we are at similar wavelengths. Just saw your thumbnail now after publishing my video about guess what: my mini Black Friday Art Haul which also includes Schmincke retro paints 😅 My set is different though, so I’m curious to check yours!
Oh forgot to add. Just got the same sketchbook and I love it. I am taking it with me on our winter break in Mexico. It gets very cold here in the winter (-30s) with little light. So 10 weeks of sunshine and beaches will be amazing :)
I bought the Irodori autumn and winter gouache sets during a Black Friday sale in November, when I was travelling to the "big city" for work and made sure I stopped at the local art store to revel in the atmosphere (I live in the hinterlands of northern British Columbia, and online shopping just isn't the same). The sets were only 20% off, though, but I couldn't resist even though I'm totally new to gouache and it was an "aspirational" purchase. 😆We had a mail strike for most of December, and I am still waiting for a Boxing Day sale order from an art store in Ontario (first Roman Smazl and Rosa Gallery pans are coming!) as well as an Etsy mineral watercolour order from the UK. It'll be like reliving Christmas once the mail catches up on the deliveries. I have a problem too, and need to do a 2025 resolution to STOP buying art supplies, and use what I have. Maybe once I check out the Hobonichi planners online.... I need something to write my resolutions in. 😂 Thank you again for the eye candy, Lily, and happy new year!!!
Hi Lily, I’m happy I stumbled upon your channel, I always would loved to try some Daniel Smith watercolour, I didn’t yet because I have many other palettes to finish before investing in new tubes, (I do have Horadam, A. Gallo and some other brands). So thank you for the swatch.
I def want to see you build your cool (or Qor) palette. lol! I couldn’t tell if you were saying cool or Qor but I’m always down for a palette building video!
Thank you, dear Lily, for this video. You are so inspiring! The little bird is lovely. What pencils do you use for outlining? Have a lovely, happy and healthy new year 💖💖💖
I'm hoping/praying for good year. Here in America, I think we're gonna have a particularly challenging year. But we do have to hold to hope and use our creative skills to their max and to feed our creative hearts & souls!
Good news, per Daniel Smith, they have enough supplies in Quin burnt orange to supply for 20 years! I’ve heard similar for Quin Burnt scarlet….. let’s hope so! ❤
If you want a beautiful red gold color, try DS Aussie Red Gold - it beats out Quin Gold by a lot, I think! Aussie Red Gold is made up of 3 pigments: PY83-Diarylide Yellow 83 PR101-Red Iron Oxide PV19-Quinacridone Violet
Lovely video as always! All the best for 2025! I wonder about the rich green gold-on my screen it does not look as usual, instead of green it looks brown. Someting w the light or your camera settings?
Happy new year Sussdue!🤗🌟 Rich Green Gold - PY129 has always been a struggle for me to depict correctly on camera, it always looks browner than it is!👀 I however I've come to believe it isn't just my camera, because I've heard other RUclipsrs having the same trouble. Maybe it's just camera shy?!😄
I loved that palette till I realised why people complained about the un-folded-in edges of the middle section. Given that these palettes are used for special and limited edition collections, they really should do better.
Lily I love your work and your channel. I’ll understand if you delete this comment. Your paints are beautiful but I’m so sad to see Schmincke produce and promote cochineal pigment. Presenting it has historical value and yes it’s natural but they certainly don’t mention that hundreds of insects lose their lives to make each tube. I’m not vegan so it’s probably a bit hypocritical on my part but honestly when it’s a paint that is fugitive and can be produced in a lightfast version which doesn’t require crushing up beetles it seems unnecessary. Lots of people are buying it without realising how it’s made thinking it’s kind to the planet because it’s natural.
Dear Mongruadh93, thank you so much for your caring comment - I totally understand where you are coming from, and have the utmost respect for your perspective on this.❤️I didn't think of it in that way as I know cochineal is used in processed foods we eat, in make up like lipstick, blush etc, but you make an excellent point, so a huge thank you for giving me food for thought.❤️
@ thank you for taking the comment as it was intended. Cochineal (E120) has almost entirely been replaced thank goodness. I had to work with it as a histology stain as a scientist so I did a bit of research and it does have some applications such as the detection of cancerous and other unusual cell types. What shocked me was the sheer volume of animals involved it takes 70,000 beetles to make a pound of pigment. I’ve tried to avoid it ever since. It is beautiful and a historically important pigment for sure. I enjoy art a lot and pigments are an interesting intersection with my academic background. Toxicity is another area of concern as I have a granddaughter now and a lot of pets who seem to have a magnetic attraction to my paint. You seem to be a very good person with a lot of empathy so I thought I’d make the comment. I’m not suggesting you throw away your paint - just the opposite treasure it and use every drop. I just hope Schmincke and other companies making paints are honest in their marketing and try to move towards ethical and safe products in their marketing future - for sure the world has bigger problems. Wishing you a healthy and happy 2025.
@@Mongruadh93 Your followup comment has provided me and everyone here with a ton of info I was not aware of, thank you so much! I share your hope that companies like Schmincke are more transparent with the materials used in their products. Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2025! ❤
