Very good points by all parties. The "Queen" girl in Black sweater has made the most obvious reasoned argument about "Black on Black" crime. It is nothing more than a deflection from the issue of police brutality. With that said, the lady in Orange/red also made a valid point. Police brutality has been an issue in the Black community, "but we must address our own actions." By this, she is clearly not justifying police brutality or buying into the "black on black" crime deflection. Per se.
She is, however, highlighting ONE factor to consider in addressing police brutality. Culture. On both sides. You can't address police brutality alone without also addressing the culture of violence and culture of bigotry. There are corrupt cops who abuse their power and target innocent black people. There are also corrupt people with no regard for civility or the law who abuse their freedoms by targeting other civilians or violating the law.
A personal observation: Too man times, I've seen how our Black neighbors are often treated differently. It's so sad when I see a Black man or woman going out of their way to be extra nice just to avoid being treated like a second class citizen. Whether it is paying at a cashier, entering a restaurant, etc. It's devastating. You feel it, you sense it, when that sick diabolical bigoted mindset sets in and the tone in the person's treatment is axiomatic. Disturbing!

@Steven Peterson what's your point? Racism and discrimination is a world wide thing, pointing out some in Latin countries means nothing. Some Blacks and POC definitely are racist and discriminatory as well (tht narrative tht black ppl can't be racist is laughable). You have certain ppl in Jamaica, DR, Africa, all over tht bleach their skin to look lighter and discriminate against certain looks, tribes, etc. Racism and discrimination is in every fabric. I've seen carribean blacks think their better than black Americans, Africans tht don't even talk to black americans, etc. Idk about you but I go to PR every year, am Puertorican, born and raised in Farrock which is predominantly black and never ever grew up on tht racial vibe and broke bread as one. Even saying "my black ppls" sounds funny to me bcus we grew up as one. We all went through similar and same struggles. Taino natives were enslaved, murdered by white spaniard oppressors, then black slaves were brought in to take the place of the low native population and Spanish, taino, Africans mixed hence a Puertorican bcus Spain allowed the slave masters to mix to bring up population. In the states Latinos also were segregated, red lined (Latinos generally lived in same neighborhoods as blacks in most places) looked down upon, I myself have been racially profiled, arrested for bs a few times. You think the crackers gaf what tone you are? If you ain't white you black, tht 1% rule is very real.
Again there are racist and ppl tht discriminate in every country but I will tell you every one of my homies tht ever been to PR and most ppl online will tell you PR ppl are very welcoming, open minded and generally aren't on tht vibe. Black prs in Puertorico generally live the same as any other light skinned pr and get love. Now other Latin countries, thts a diff story but doesn't change my point.
Also alot of pandering going on and ppl trying to attribute everything to racism its crazy. BTW we can have this debate all day but in the hood we know there is a difference between the word &igga and &igger. These white pandering mother&uckas got everyone in their feelings and causing more strive/division because not many were trying to make a big deal about poc using the word &igga as a word of comraderie and endearment but now bcus some white folks started focusing on it it becomes the issue of the day (not saying some poc didn't like the word either).

if a person is " black" and puerto rican it doesnt mean they are really "black" and puerto rican
It means they are african American and puerto rican.
Puerto rican is a ethnicity, Its tied to a cultural heritage. African American is a ethnicity. But they call themselves black because their history had everyone identify with a one drop rule.
if someone is " mixed" they are mixed as in both. One drop rule is stupid. Many african Americans are mixed themselves. They just call themselves black because their society has always boxed them in one catagory, even if they were actually mixed. Dominican, Puerto ricans and other latin Americans had more complex catagories based on your mixture. But overall what binds them together is their ethnic background. Not their race.
the word " negro" is an actual word in spanish and portuguese. And in latin its nigreos if you look. That is not a racists word, its just a word to describe a color. Those slang words with the A at the end and ER at the end is another thing. But its just a butchering of the word black. But now it brings bad feelings because how messed up the history with the word was in the US

    • @sgonzo5572
      @sgonzo5572 3 года назад

@Steven Peterson No, Because most African Americans aren't literally just African from a Ancestral genetic level. Most African Americans actually Generically mixed to some some degree. If you ever look at the average DNA composition of African Americans you will see that. Also they sometimes have haplogroups of other continental origins.
Most Puerto Ricans are part African ancestry, and some being predominantly African ancestry, They are still Puerto Rican. Its, a cultural heritage, We speak Spanish, Have ancestors that lived in Puerto Ricco for hundreds of years. Have carried different traditions and customs ect. as well as being catholic while majority of African Americans are protestant or other variation of Christianity outside of Catholicism.
Puerto ricos colonial society had a low slave population for most of its colonial time and most colored people were free. 1830 census of Puerto rico shows this listing free coloreds, slaves and whites. Many families between black and white mixed as well as native. They were also in equalities between different mixtures. It wasn't your black, one drop rule. Some mixtures were treated better then others.
Where as in America that was not the case for a while. One drop your black. Even if you were actually black and native American for example. You were more than likely lumped into being black only, even if you were both.
If you have a problem accepting a person can have more than one ethnic background, or being bi racial/ multi racial, thats your problem. But the objective reality is the person is actually mixed, being both. sharing DNA between puerto ricans and African Americans. As well as having cultural heritage of both groups

What some of us as a people don't understand is we are the only people who identified themselves by a color! As A color! I don't agree that other races of people should not be Dominican or Puerto Rican or Spanish and otherwise accept the fact that they are black, no we are the only race of people in the entire world who believe that we are a color, that we identify ourselves by a color, "black" and it's because we've lost our identity. They've taken our identity away from us and they called us Coon, spaded, negro, n***** & all kinds of names. It wasn't until the earlier days when we and other people like Malcolm x and James Brown started making it popular to be black that we started adopting the fact that I'm Black and I'm Proud, I'm Black and Beautiful! Let other people be who they are. We as a people, we're not just black people. We are Israelites! We are God's chosen people sent into slavery because of disobedience to the Most High, serving the gods of the people around us. What we need to do is get back to believing in the Most High! Get back to following the laws of God. Get back to identifying who we are as a people.
Black is a color, Not a race of people. And to answer your question, Yes I consider myself a member of the black people. Born from slavery in this country, but I am an Israelite!

Damn man, I'm African-American but I grew up with Latinos in Chicago. The main issue is that MOST #ADOS folks live in the South and they don't live around Latinos. Things are changing but it's nothing like people that grew up in places like CHI, Philly, NYC, Jersey, Boston, CT, etc...Dominicans and Ricans are apart of the African Diaspora. They know it. Shit, I had friends on the Westside of Chi that went to Roberto Clemente highschool. Roberto is a Black man who speaks Spanish. Now, the word Nigger/ Nigga really is just apart of who we are. Most of our ancestors were taken from Nigeria and around the Niger river. The Spaniards, Dutch, Portuguese and English didn't speak all the languages of the slave from West Africa but MOST of West Africa has the Niger River area in common. So when they want slaves to respond to certain words to get their attention they would use the word Negro which means Black. It eventually became Niger, Nigger, and now Nigga. So Dominicans and Ricans have ancestors from Nigeria like DUH. If they can't use it then African-Americans shouldn't use it because they were called the N-word first# FACTS Nigger is grafted from Negro. The Spaniards have slaves first. Shit, El Debarge claims Blackness but if he spoke Spanish he could easily pass for Rican or Dominican and many African-Americans are like that because we are all mutts with either more or less European, Native, and African ancestry. But everybody has a right to their opinion.

This conversation needs someone to step in and educate everyone on the difference between race and nationality. By the ladies logic if a Jamaican introduced himself as Jamaican he's not black. I just asked my friend who is from Senegal what is she and she said Senegalese - Does that make her less black? Personally I think the word shouldn't be used by no one. With that said black and brown people attacking each other about who's allowed to say it or not is counter productive and just creating unnecessary divide.

Africans were brought to Puerto Rico and the Taino people and the African people obviously made their own families and that's how us Puerto Ricans were made.. yes obviously we are not 100% blk but neither is homegirl in this video wearing the blk sweater cuz judging by her redbone skin she has European in her blood but the one thing we all have in common whether you from the Caribbean or you are a biracial African American we all have African blood in our veins and the only Latinos that I know say the n word are the ones that grew up in the hood with African-Americans and we all looked out for each other like family because at the end of the day we all would get treated the same and we all have been treated the same in the past and till this day

I wish I got here sooner. I saw the chopped up clip on ws.
On the surface nobody can say your cultural make up or what you consider yourself. We must all understand that if you are American and any discernible color of black, then you are considered to be “African American” black. That’s just what people in this country see.
When Puerto Ricans or Dominicans or Panamanians or Cubans that on the surface are most definitely black say their not black they mean they’re not black American. They don’t subscribe to having the African American experience in America. All they can talk to is the Latin experience they’ve had. Now if African Americans qualify the statement and say Afro Latino(a) or Afro Latin American to someone that would identify with that ethnicity then your points may be received differently. Race and ethnicity are two different things. Afro latino(a) get a lot racism, whether consciously or unconsciously, from black Americans. On top of what white Americans and white Latinos throw at us all the time.
All that being said, if you live in America people on see what they see and make their judgements based on that data. American society has not opened their mind to the possibility of different cultural upbringing someone black may have had. In Latin America, there populations of black people in every country. The same can be said about Canada, the Caribbean, and pretty much every Region of the world. The term “black” is lazy. Be specific and you’ll get more universal understanding.
