Here after the news of his passing. Brilliant guy. Rest in peace and thank you for your dry sense of humor and presence.
unique and never boring, will be missed, great comic
Such a multi-faceted guy-brilliant comic and actor, as well as author. You will be missed Richard-RIP. Thank you Don for this hilarious collection!
I have searched for years+I finally gave up
But here it IS….the Hawaiian bit that I thought was hysterical when I was 26!
Now I’m 65 lol+still so Entertained by The Belz😂😂😂. Thanks for Posting
Genius.
RIP Richard. Thanks for the laughs.
RIP Richard! Thanks for the memories.
His jawline is stronger than my self esteem
Always loved seeing him on the late night shows and seeing his stand-up. When he passed away today, I was a little ashamed to say I didn't know he had been acting on SVU. I hadn't seen it. I just knew him as a comedian. 🤷🏼♀️ RIP dude.
An incredible sequence, each showing the development of what it meant to what became known as "doing A Belzer." His stand-up was up there with the greats. But what I enjoy about his imaginative jumps, which remind me of the also late and great, now Ancient - Robin Williams. His humor was musical. Incredibly diverse Artist. He did that same time travel thing that catches everyone paying attention.
A great brave comedian and actor. Told it like it was, kept me laughing through the shit that was our past. We need more like him in these times. Thanks for posting this on RUclips. 🤙
Why the past tense? You freaked me out, till I checked. He's still alive.... Don't do that.
@@linshanhsiang My bad! ✌
Rest now Richard you were A very funny comedian and the master at crowd work
Thanks for this. RIP Belz
Giller to the rescue. Time to revisit Belzer. RIP (his Bob Dylan stuff is great). I used to do the KR exercise tape at 31:00 lol!
Rest in peace, Richard. Funny guy and great actor.
Love this guy
R.I.P. Richard Belzer!
Very silly guy! lol
I think Richard's the best as John Munch in Law and Order SVU!
Sad 😔. 1983 is Only ten years ago! there's NO WAY this is almost 40 Years ago. 40 years ago is like 1945!!! it's crazy. SCARFACE 1983, HOMICIDE LIFE ON THE STREET as Detective Munch. love you Maestro THE RABBI OF COMEDY, RICHARD BELZER!!!!
Belz does a very fast 1945 tribute here when he imitates Jack Benny. "NOW CUT THAT OUT!" But I totally agree. I was 13 in 1983, and I am completely bewildered by the passage of time.
Saw the Belz at the Punchline ATL circa around 1989-1990 or so. My girlfriend and I walked a few steps to Cafe 290 after the show and the Belz and his warm-up guy walked in and we invited them to sit at our table. My girl and I were about half lit but the two comedians only had sparkling water and left after a few mins
Don, belated thanks for this collection. I spent so much time thinking of Belzer as Det. Munch that I forgot what a sharp comic he was, new material for every performance, and what a profound influence on Dennis Miller he was!
Belzer can also be seen in the 1980 movie 'Fame' at 'Catch A Rising Star' introducing one of the kids trying out for a performance.
Thanks for putting this together Don.
RIP Richard Belzer
We need you NOW - Richard Belzer!
Keith Richard’s exercise video and David Byrne waiting for the NYC bus. Perfect.
I love the Belz. Man he was fuuuunny and just such a sarcastic and biting edge.
RIP funny man
Thank you
R.I.P. Legend!!!
Richard was a very funny comedian, I had no idea he was from SNL!!!!!
His height reminds me of Ric Ocasek, not by face though! They both were really tall.
Yes they both had a similar presents with big ears, shape of face, yada yada .... Richard belzer will always be a stand-up comedian to me!!! I even took a comedy class with him way back when, a great memory
R.I.P., Babe.
You should see him in "The Groove Tube", it's really an eye-opener
Moves like Jagger. RIP, Belz.
I love his little laugh his so cute ❤️
If you think Belz is cute Gilbert Gottfried must look like George Clooney to you.
@@freddyc9725 I didn't say he was cute i his laugh was cute
Richard was very handsome when he was young! :)
@@freddyc9725 gilbert gottfried was adorable
RIP Belz. One of my favorite guest on Howard Sterns show.
Great first clip. He shows a clip he's in from one of my all time favorite movies, Night Shift, Michael Keaton's breakout film. If you haven't seen it, do so!
Saw it as a kid and barely remember it...hafta find it now!
Shelly Long's breakout role as a prostitute, too. Directed by Henry Winklers buddy and former Happy Days costar Ron Howard.
If Stephen King was a comedian, he would've been Richard Belzer. RIP Rich
At 5:18 Belz says, "I changed my name to Dick Whitman..." which is essentially the entire premise of AMC's 'Mad Men'. Belz should sue.
that is wild, what are the odds?
@@alvarotrujillo1492 We're all living in a simulation.
Great dresser! But then, people had more class back then.
RIP
❤
Check out his 1 hour cable special that he did many years ago I think for HBO. It's fantastic. Also watch him in a movie called The groove tube from the '70s. He's got a great part in that movie also. And of course the Richard Belzer show. 🙋
He also played Shelly Long's pimp in Night Shift.
@@kevinnelson66 yes that's right I remember that. I'm a big fan of Richard and I was really sorry to hear he had passed.
Thank you ... I only knew him from Law & Order.
@@factsoverfiction7826 if you ever feel in a weird mood pull up a movie called The groove tube. It'll crack you up. 🙋
I love this guy and always will.
I have thought for a while he had been a part of the group Sha Na Na.
Just realized he was not.
Would a "Let the Eagle Sour" compilation be possible, might be some copyright issues there?
Richard's hair pulled a Michael Jackson on us
1:44 What happened in "On Golden Pond"?
RIP :c
How many times did Paul guest-host?
Six: Three backstage shows, and three guest-host shows.
20:04
Crazy in hindsight. The founder of the club died one day after Belzer.
3 years till Dylan is 86.
1:24:20 Hey Don, Is that Nellie McKay on the piano???
It is.
Probably not the same part?
-Thank God.
So, The Belz - babe - lived his own Sartrian hell, babe.
I guess the Belz never got to see an 86 year-old Bob Dylan.
Dave looks like he weighs about 135lbs in 1982 clip.
The Belz!
Munchkin
Richard roughed up his cousin Henry Winkler in Night Shift and got paid for it.
He foreshadowed Trump in “The Groove Tube”.
Never knew he tried comedy.
"tried" isn't the right word. that's what he started as and got famous for. it was his main thing in the 70s & 80s until munch. he even wrote a book "how to be a stand-up comic" that has chevy chase, robin williams, richard pryor praising him on the back.
He was in Scarface, he played a comedian in it
@@ludwigfan3013 I'll have to go watch that again
@@joycedominguez8997 He played an emcee, or a comedy show host. He was the emcee for the comedy club Catch a Rising Star in New York for a long time. Many successful comedians were first brought up on stage by Belz. There were 3 clubs in the 1970s that fueled the comedy boom: Catch, the Improv, and the Comic Strip. Catch was like the main one; Seinfeld called it "the coolest club I ever walked into". Belzer was like the righthand man for the founder of Catch, Rick Newman (who just died yesterday, one day after Belz).
Richard Belzer basically invented modern crowdwork and the comedy emcee.
Andy Kaufman's character Tony Clifton was based on Belzer (Catch is the club that Andy broke out of).
Hey man….THE FUCK??!!??
He almost looks like Henry Wrinkler
They're cousins, so...
They are 1st cousins
:'(
Belzer (and Robin Williams) were postmodernism personified. Their stand up was a blur of impressions-- many of them not funny at all-- that sort of dazzled the audience into laughing. I see this and think of Gretchen Bender, Cindy Sherman, MTV, Monty Python, Blade Runner, Two or Three Things I Know About Her, Pop art, Hannah Wilke, punk rock, Derek Jarman, hip hop, TV Party, public access, Stuart Sherman, all the pranksters and freaks of NYC. RIP to both.
Boooo. Isn't this the one where I found all the timestamps?
Did you read the updated description?
@@dongiller Yeah. Good old RUclips :/
Munch's stand-up is extremely cringe and bad but I need more footage just because he was cute.
Your mom was extremely cringe and bad last night
RIP Richard Belzer
