Fedora has been my daily driver for years. Great distro that never let me down. As a DevOps engineer, I really enjoy using Fedora Linux in my professional workflow. Thanks for the review!

This is great. I've installed Fedora last night for the first time ever and now I'm scanning the Internet for tips on how to best use it. So far I've seen nothing but happy users.

Really good channel - needs more subs - just got Fedora 40 running on an old Microsoft Surface 5 and it’s brilliant. 👍

I really enjoy your videos a lot more than a lot of others. You don’t sit there and inject a ton of opinions you just show us what’s happening.

I've been using Fedora since it was Core, and initially on Power Macs. Fedora has always been my preferred distro due to the nice combo of stability and freshness of software versions and features, and I have this version on my gaming PC today. It's such a solid, feature-rich, easy-to-use system these days. I always end up coming back to it if I try something else.

Thank you for the informative video! I was wondering about the changes from Fedora 39 to 40, and this broke it down very concisely. Well done!

i remember installing fedora months ago on a new office PC and going back to win on the same day because I couldn't set the scaling to between 100 and 200% as well as the 60hz. to me those are the most fundamental features of my current OS. instead I'm using windows while watching Linux videos to see if things have changed lol

I had Fedora 39 running with no issues on an older Dell PC, upgraded to 40 and would not even boot. Made USB stick and DVD from ISO -- could not install 40. So now tried newer machine (purchased within last year) -- installed with no issuer and performs perfectly, really like Workstation 40. If you try to install on older machine, we aware.

i successfully installed the fist 20 distros of distrowatch, except Fedora, because, the"reclaim space" is not clearly explained for me, all other distros!!! will go with the existing partitions, i can declare to them: use this existing ext4 /home as /home, the existing fat as /boot/efi and the btrfs as your /, but not Fedora, their is no possibility to declare this to the install prog , always things must by erased. To the moment, i found no solution for my fears, that other installations, on different HDDs will be successfully nuked.

Linux user here too😎 No Fedora, but MX Linux Xfce. I don't like Gnome. And rounded corners are not my thing either. My screen doesn't have them. I've noticed that the rounded corners still aren't implemented everywhere, like for instance terminal. I can't stand that. Mister perfect that's why😉

does installer have option to install nvidia drivers automatically ?

    • @yaroslav7328
      @yaroslav7328 2 месяца назад +3

Unfortunately, no. Fedora follows an opensource and non-proprietary policy, but you can install proprietary and non-free software from rpm-nonfree repositories. It is relatively easy.

Nobara might be of interest if you're looking for nvidia, fractional scaling and other gaming-adjacent fixes out of the box.

FYI, there is a compatibility issue with Nvidia and Wayland. With release 40 they have shipped without x11 display manager but I have seen some posts where it can be installed.
Specifically the issue with Nvidia drivers on Wayland is regarding implicit/explicit sync and some screen tearing artifacts can occur. Nvidia will provide a fix in the 550 driver set to be released on May 15th.
That being said, I took a " damn the torpedoes.... approach and upgraded anyway. It runs ok, but has issues with the text chat box when I am on twitch in the brave browser.

@@SH-qb1du They ship the Fedora KDE spin with only Wayland, but on GNOME, X11 is still supported. However, on my 5-year-old laptop, Wayland + Nvidia works normally. Since I don't play games, I don't have much to add. There is no discrete GPU on my brand-new ThinkPad, so I can't comment on the current state of support.

gesture limited to three finger is bad; four finger swipe switch between desktop, three finger swipe should switch between window/app in a desktop .
like kde, gnome touchpad gesture is horrible; only thing keeping me in windows : (
