And here's the game that got me into futuristic racing! I didn't like the first game on PlayStation when I tried it, but I got the sequel free with a PowerVR card (which ran up to 1024x768 resolution) and... I loved it! The fact walls don't stop you dead any more (you can scrape along them, skateboard-like) was a revelation!
This is the commercial Direct3D version, using a patch from Dege (author of dgVoodoo2, which I've used to get the game to work), plus using Windows 98 compatibility mode, as that seems to sort out the frame rate slightly better than using a hacked version, or limiting the frame rate in Nvidia controls (as the game runs at slightly over 30fps, locking it can cause the odd frame skip).
The game runs at maximum at 800x600 resolution, as shown here. There is a hacked version that runs at 1024x768 (but has some menu glitches), or you can use dgVoodoo2 to bump the resolution up to HD, or even 4K, but I've recorded this at the maximum res you could run at the time.
In this video I race each of the opening tracks (not the harder ones unlocked by completing the championship) in a range of teams. See which track I JUST failed to complete :-D
Music on the PC version lacks the big name tracks from the likes of Chemical Brothers, but what's present suits the game well, being from CoLD SToRAGE, whose tracks you can find here: coldstorage.ba...
Overall an essential futuristic racing game!

@@GamSin1981 the only thing the PS1 version does better is music. And it's a bit brighter. PlayStation emulators can make it look pretty nice!
