    Amazing how timely this video still is even now. The Apple Card credit limits (in case you didn’t know by now) are based on what your current overall credit limit is across all your cards and credit lines. So for instance, if you have 4 cards and they’re all $2500 and your credit limit is $10k total, when you apply for Apple Credit Card it will more than likely offer you a $10k CL to begin with. That has been my experience I’ve seen so far.

    One thing to clarify about paying off your CC: it's actually good for building your credit if you don't pay your card in full every time. The recommendation is that you carry a balance for 6 consecutive months every 24 months. This helps show the agencies that not only are you consistently utilizing your credit, but you're reliable with paying it back even if it's not all right away. It can also help you get credit limit increases, which further helps your credit score. If you're always paying it off, what that tells them is that you're only reliable spending what you have and if you have some sort of emergency or something that dramatically increases your credit spending, you might not be able to pay it back. That's not to say you should carry a large balance those 6 months though. This is basic personal finance stuff.

    As Apple adds more features to the card to make it more in line with other cards, I'm sure it'll get better. Special financing on Apple Hardware or items bought from their stores could slightly increase some sells for those that know they can't afford it all up-front but can over a pre-determined period of time. I doubt this is going to have any business say they need to integrate NFC payments or Apple Pay online. What I'm interested in seeing is if subscriptions and in-app purchases go up because people feel like they're getting something back.

    Here's the way I see it.
    65% of retailers accept Apple Pay. That statistic is of course different for certain locations, but that's the national average.
    So if you use the Apple Card as your primary credit card, the 1% and 2% cash back works out to a weighted average of 1.65% cash back for non-apple purchases.
    So it's effectively a 1.65% flat rate cash back card with an additional 3% reward for apple purchases.
    Credit cards are primarily used to build credit and to earn free money.
    The convenience factor of the Apple Card is very nice, but for a credit card to truly be recommendable it needs to excel in the areas it's primarily designed to be used.
    That said, the rewards are decent. I think there are others that will earn you more money over all, but it's not terrible. The discover it for instance gives you 5% cash back on a rotated list of purchase categories. If you keep your credit spending in the areas in which you get the most rewards, you can optimize your rewards to make the most money.

    Bank of America cash rewards card (I think the one your wife had) has 1% on everything, 2% on grocery/gas and 3% on category of your choice (from a list of choices) but if you bank with them they give you an extra 10% back when transferred into a BOFA account, ie if you have $200 in rewards and redeem all of it you’ll get $220 in total. I have both Apple and BofA and BofA is very similar. It even allowed me to add the card to Apple wallet instantly to use before I got it in the mail. But Apple is definitely more convenient as far as reminders and the way it’s integrated into the iOS ecosystem

    As a former small business owner I would like to point out that merchant fees were higher when a cash back card was used. So the merchant has to raise prices to compensate for the higher merchant card processing fees or they may offer seemingly higher discounts for paying with a check or cash. When one of our customers offered us a choice of their cards we always recommended they use one without the cash back gimmicks.

    This is a great product for those who live fully in the Apple ecosystem, and value simplicity over everything else. I will not be getting it primarily because of the 1 percent back where Apple Pay isn’t accepted, which in my use case is a lot, and the lack of any sign up bonus, which almost every cash back card has. In this day and age, you should not be accepting below 2 percent back at a minimum.

    Yea I agree with you. I hate credit cards for the same reason I see a lot of people getting in debt and on top of that so many interest in them which makes it harder for anyone to pay things back essentially. But with apple card is easy to use and easy to understand how to pay things back. Im still in process of learning but definitely find it the best credit card for me to start building credit and as my first credit card. Just found out I can use it for my gas which I typically pay very often, so this is so kool. I can build credit while paying it back because it is money I store on the side to pay it back every time.

    Are we going to ignore the Apple lock in? I understand that they're offering their product so they'd like you to use their products. But it affects your credit score, and I'd you decide to change from Apple to Android, you lose the card, meaning you lose your entire credit history for that card. Losing a year of credit history could drastically change your score. So basically they say "Get the Apple card! But once you have it either stay with iPhone FOREVER or lose your credit history." That is a huge problem, not just churners (cardphile), but for anyone.

    It is just a digital money laundering... People can say, I go to Starbucks and pay with Titanium, or I pay with AMEX, or I Pay with George Washington; it is all availability, like the Ben Diagrams we learned at school. People may be aware (get access of) the Bank of the US; the Chase Bank, Goldman Sachs Bank, etc. For a clean cut people just look to have one simple and functional card, if people want to entertain more variances then will have to cope with more accesses ... Like those people that have more than 1 shampoo at the Shower.

    The comparison to AirPods is spot on. I am an “audiophile” and use AirPods pretty much all day for work. They’re simply easy to carry with me, pull out quickly and take calls. Yes there are much better sounding headphones, but none that are as reliable and convenient. I’m by no means saying they’re audiophile headphones, I have real headphones for that. For day to day use for phone calls though, I haven’t found any others that are as reliable or easy to keep with me.
    The card is similar, very easy, very straightforward rewards. So sick of credit card companies making the rewards so obscure and complicated, full of restrictions.

    “Cardphiles”, I’ve heard card nerds more. Either way I just call it being good with money to get cash back as long as you pay them off monthly. Or are aware of certain benefits like extending a manufactures warrenty 1yr on that new phone instead of paying a cell carrier month, or for Apple care, or square trade warranties. But if you are charged interest then it’s not worth it, stick to using debit or cash is the smarter way if you don’t pay them off monthly.

    "doesn't support Apple Pay" is it different in America? Everywhere in the UK that accepts contactless, accepts Apple Pay. Apple Pay doesn't need to be supported at all for the contactless payment to go through.

  • @katrinabryce
    @katrinabryce 5 лет назад

    In the UK, in-app provisioning of Apple Pay cards is fairly common, most banks do it, so you would be able to use your card pretty much immediately after applying for it. App notifications for card payments and payment due are also fairly common. Not quite as polished and integrated as the Apple Card, but the features are there.
    Almost all banks offer an account switching service which updates your payment details everywhere, and that is available even if you are an octogenarian dinosaur who does everything at the bank branch. We’ve had that for about 15 years now.
    Also, bank transfers take about 3 seconds to get through to the receiving account.
    So, if Apple Card came to the UK, it would be maybe a little bit better than what we have at the moment, but not that much better.
    Bank interchange fees, the amount the retailer pays to the bank for processing the card, are a lot lower, so that means less money available for rewards. If Apple are about the same as the best no fee cashback cards on the market, that would be 0.5% for Apple Pay purchases, and a bit more for Apple purchases.

    • @Nathan-tg4gu
      @Nathan-tg4gu 5 лет назад

      Credit cards achieve 3 things in the US.
      1. There's a score system called FICO that ranges from 300-850. Using credit cards responsibly boosts this score so that lenders will trust you more and offer you loans for lower interest rates. This can save you thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars when you get a car or house.
      2. Many credit cards offer you rewards. These come in the form of reduced debt after you spend a certain amount, cash back percentages, and points that can be redeemed for specific goods and services. Considering that you usually don't have to give up anything to get these rewards, it's literally free money.
      3. In the event of a financial emergency, such as your debit card not working/getting lost or stolen or losing your job, credit cards give you some way to temporarily pay your bills.
      They don't really take away your freedom at all. You can use them as much or as little as you like. The only people who get screwed over by credit cards are those who spend more than they can afford and end up owing many dollars in interest.

    Apple Card is simply a physical version of Apple Pay for places that don’t take apple pay. Why is this a thing? Well, Apple Pay has been out for over 5 years and people don’t use it as much as Apple wants them to. Just like how people say Apple dreams of a portless future, they also dream of a day where we never need a physical wallet again. Originally that was the idea and the only benefit of Apple Pay. It was quick and cool but was it really anymore convenient than pulling out your physical card? There was no real incentive to use it over your regular card. I’ve had Apple Pay for a while and I really don’t use it that much at physical stores. online shopping it’s quick and has all of my information including shipping preloaded. But when I’m at a store or restaurant about to pay, I usually have my card in my hand ready before I even notice that the place accepts Apple Pay. I might as well use my card at that point instead of putting my card away and pulling out my phone for no benefit. Apple Card is Apple solution to this scenario until we get to a point where every place accepts Apple Pay. Now with an Apple Card, I’ll go to a store, get ready to check out and the card that I’ll automatically have in my hand is an Apple Card. I see that the store I’m in accepts apple pay and now I think to myself “I ought to use Apple Pay so I can get that 2% cash back instead of 1%.” Now I have an actual reason to use apple pay. This is apple training us to use apple pay more. They get benefited because they take a little from your bank company with every transaction. apple pay grows to more locations and more banks because more people are using it and eventually you’ll only ever use your phone as a wallet.
