My Van Halen tribute band was playing in Tulsa the night that the storm hit. We had just finished up the show and was loading up the tour bus as the alarms were going off. We got in the bus and was debating on what we should do and we really didn't know if the storm was actually going to hit our part of the town. Me and the bus driver started looking towards the West... Seeing stuff flying about two blocks away. I told everybody we have to get out of that bus immediately! We ran inside as fast as we could and power flashes were going off all around us. Thanks to the bouncer at The Shrine venue in Tulsa.... He held the door open for us while we all ran inside

That night was the closest call we've ever had Brother, the winds was the fastest I've ever seen. And the storm was moving at like 70mph. There wasn't enough reaction time humanly possible after we all saw debris flying sideways like 6 blocks west. We all took off full speed on foot towards the doors of the Venue Shrine, and we still got caught in the vortex, a power flash went off, it was bright, I could feel my hairs standing up, it was like a hot electricity filled explosion 20 ft from us. It WENT ZZZZZZTT BOOM.
the sand and dirt blasted all of us right in the eyes as the power flash blinded is, like a 1 2 punch in the eyes. I kept running and turned around to make sure nobody lost their footing from the crazy winds
I saw everyone still on their feet holding onto and shielding each other from all the flying debris.
We was in a strong brick building, and everyone could feel the concrete vibrating beneath our feet.
The Metal double doors were sucked open so hard, it took the center pole part out completely.
We actually had to walk on a fence that was blown over right by the powerlines where the power flash went off.
It was an indescribable experience, we was all just trying to survive. We had no idea it was going to be this bad, and we got caught right in crosshairs, and barely made it to safety.
If one of those construction signs hit any of us, we could have died, or been dismembered.
Somehow, through tje grace of God, we all made it, and we might not have if it weren't for the incredible staff at the Shrine. They was supposed to be locking up as we tried to leave in the RV, but they didn't lock those doors, I'll never forget the big bouncer holding those doors open for us and yelling hurry, get in !
He held those doors open during 100mph winds!
He's a real life super hero.

Derecho = Land Hurricane. They occur 5-7 times a year in the USA. These have to be treated like a hurricane. For u to understand how strong these are go watch what the Iowa Cedar Rapids Derecho did!! 😅 Witnessed that roar through; these have 70 mph sustained winds or higher. This is Mother Nature when she's royally pissed off!

It was unbelievable, I saw it in person, I have never seen winds this fast and strong in my life, I've been in 80-90 mph many times, but this was well above that. I guessed 120mph. Minimum. Big Metal awnings in downtown just disappeared into the sky, metal construction signs was flying sideways so fast. It was the scariest encounter I've ever had with mother nature. I saw a good sized tree just get ripped straight up into sky. And that's when one of my brothers pulled me away from the door as I crapped my pants. The door suddenly slammed, and it definitely would have severed my hand or arm from the force it slammed with, then it slammed open like a pressure drop or something and took the middle piece of the metal door fame away, and it went somewhere.
I wanted to see it, and I saw enough
it was a stupid decision to try to peek out the door, my brother saved me at the same time I was realizing, oh $hhhh this Serious, and we might die.

MDerchos are literally land hurricanes. These are soo dangerous u have to get in a basement, interior room, or solid concrete structure. I witnessed Cedar Rapids Iowa Derecho & that storm scared me. Storms usually don't scare me.

Terrible reporter ,constantly interrupting his field reporters like Jr high school students. He needs training in how to effectively be a reporter

Tell your weatherman to cut down on the obsessive use of the radar screen when viewers want to see & hear the reports out in the field and also not him bobbing into live shots every time their live videos are shown.
Its not about the weatherman, its about the storm and its effects on power, roads, trees and buildings and people.
