It’s fascinating they seem to be driving the spiderman ip full speed in two opposite directions on both the live action and animated front. They keep making amazing animated films that raise the standard for aniamted storytelling, and somehow simultaneously driving the live action spiderman stuff right off the edge of a cliff. It’s just amazing. There is no middle ground with Sony.
I wonder if part of that has to do with what is going on at Disney. Apparently they are getting sued for how they have been treating their animators. Basically the allegation is that they forced a bunch of their most experienced animators out in order to make more room for diversity hires. Would be interesting to see if Sony picked up a bunch of these animators and that is why they have been making such great animated films.
@@michaelmurray6197 possibly, i know that across the field there has been a ton of talk around huge crunch demands on animation and vfx teams which was part of the writers and sag aftra strike last year. His initial statement was what I have been saying for years. People are so spoiled with the mcu they don’t understand what superhero movies were in the 90s. The mcu has changed the way nerds think movies should be. But there are still people out there that will make movies like this without reading the source material
Yeah like Ryan said it looks like it was made in 2003 😢 And in the movie Ezekiel get future facial recognition and tracking tech from the NSA 😅 I wish the creators of this movie got ahold of some tech to make a good movie!
Or... the MCU has gaslit you about how great movies were in the 90s, about how terrible MCU movies are, and about how they're nerd movies, while trampling all over the comics.
The irony is they could’ve had a comics accurate Madamn Web and she’s pulling all the spider woman across the SpiderVerse to assist her in something or another instead of how they had it here with the opposite, would’ve made her like a professor x type
VENOM had the writer from 50 SHADES OF GREY (who is also directing VENOM 3) MORBIUS had the writers from GODS OF EGYPT (Who are also behind MADAME WEB) And KRAVEN THE HUNTER has the writers from TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT AVI ARAD ruined everything again And he isn't even involved in MADAME WEB
The only way to end this is for everyone to just boycott Sony Pictures productions (ALL of them) until they agree to sell the rights to the Spider-Man characters back to Marvel. Make the franchise a liability to Sony rather than an asset so that they have really no choice but to get rid of it.
Watching the roundtable part felt like watching a sports talk show for a team that’s past their championship window and is about to collapse and go into a rebuild phase
I wonder if Sony ushered this movie to the market in an attempt to preserve the Spiderman property until they finish the Spider-Verse Trilogy because let's be real it's the only thing they have going for them right now.
Adam Scott is a baller. His stuff with Adult Swim, where he reenacts various tv openings was absolute genius. Scott's hilarious, and I want to believe he enjoys comics the same way he enjoys Fast & Furious.
You’d think Sony would just be happy making tv & game console money…but no…no…their greed knows no bounds, they must run the spider man brand into the dirt.
Dakota Johnson definitely thought she was going to be in the MCU; she tagged Marvel studios in a social media post when she got the role. After she saw the first trailer and how bad it was, she fired her talent agency. I think she's doing everything she can to distance herself from this movie.
Sony is fulfilling a contractural obligation to keep a Spider-Man property in production at all times in order to retain the rights to keep IP rights over Spider-Man and affiliated IPs.
@@Jezee213in 2016 remember civil war ? Spider man appeared…. There Is a license agreement and now contractual binded between Sony and ‘DISNEY’ (who owns marvel and the comic rights literally ) that allowed It to be beneficial to both sides.. however, what gets confusing Is Sony cannot plagiarize from the comics to on screen film without the permission of Disney/marvel itself which is owned by Disney solely.
The deal is that they have a time limit of five years to produce films. If they don't produce a film in five years, the theatrical rights return to Disney.
Reportedly, Venom 3 is going to have him face off against Toxin, which would be the third symbiote vs symbiote fight in a row. Gives early seasons of The Flash vibes... It'd be better if at the end of Kraven, we see his next hunt is Venom and Venom 3 ditches Toxin so we can see Kraven and Venom fight. At least then there's some connections. Plus neither has to die. Toxin could still be involved and be the one to break up the fight. Or maybe Toxin's so bad that the other two have to team up in order to beat Toxin. I dunno, but right now none of these are exciting anymore.
@@Sheamus1212 I agree. I was hyped for the first movie, hopeful for the second, and not looking forward at all to the third. For a studio working so closely to Marvel, they've really learned absolutely nothing about... Well, about anything. Can't even seem to connect their movies.
1:45 thats because Dakota Johnson is a one-note actor. The movie could have been the best MCU movie there was, and she would still deliver dialogue the same.
I learned that the story was different before a leak where they were supposed to deal with Ezekiel going after Peter's mom, possibly leading to them getting their powers and fighting him legitimately. This movie was probably so bad because it was a deadline rewrite.
At this point I get the feeling that these movies - Morbius, Madame Web, probably Craven the Hunter too - are pure contractual obligations & these characters will all get killed-off in slapstick ways in the first act of Avengers: Secret Wars…
1. Stop hiring mediocre "stars" to play a superhero role. They dont give two shits. 2. Get an enthusiastic newbie who is familiar with the char., or who is willing to learn, or give effort into the role. 3. Get someone who cared about the fans of the character/franchise. 4. You now have more $$ to spend on vfx and other stuff. I hate seeing people who would 100% laugh and labelled comic book readers back in the day, now all of a sudden wanna be part of a franchise just cause it became cool and profitable. You can see their distaste in the eyes.
Why is Sony so obsessed on making spin off movies without Spider Man? What are they trying to accomplish other than money? All they been doing is hurting the Superhero fatigue.
What Sony really needs to do is put Phil Lord and Chris Miller in charge They're the only ones that know what they're doing They can be the Kevin Feige of this cinematic universe

It would've been sooo cool to get a good Spider Woman movie. When she was first introduced in the seventies I kinda disregarded her, but when she got a costume change & her own title, I was a fan. Hell, I subscribed to her book. Man, to see the Brothers Grimm or Morgan Le Fay on the big screen would have been awesome.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️READ: Dakota revealed that the plot was changed after she signed on. Originally the story was going to be about protecting MARY PARKER from getting assassinated. They watered it down to only about protecting the Spidergirls. They were initially going to reveal that Mary Parker is still alive all along, and Andrew Garfield’s Spiderman was going to be reintroduced. ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
Man I am SO GLAD that you kept it real with this I was waiting to see if you were going to sugarcoat how bad it was and just glaze like a lot of breakdown channels do.. it’s almost disrespectful for them to release this movie
Madame Webb was in the 90’s Spider-Man Cartoon for a couple episodes I believe and she first appeared in the 80’s in the Amazing Spider-Man but she’s more similarly compared to the 90’s cartoon version minus being super old.
someone was pointing out that all these young writers have not read any comic books and they are not expected to read, so obviously they are not even close to the source material, expect character names they get everything wrong
I'll never understand why some people legitimately believe that Sony keeping the film IP for Spider-Man is a good thing. Just because the Spider-Verse films are good, the same can't be said about the rest of the products. It's very clear that the Spider-Verse films are made by a slightly different company that specializes in animation because the passion shows over to the screen. The Spider-Verse films are the exception, but they are definitely *not* the rule.
My daughter went to see it last night with friends and when I went to pick her up, I was like "How was it?" And she was like "*sigh* I really wanted to like it. I like the actors, I like it's a bunch of girls... But it was bad... Like really not good"
Hey guuuuuuys chill and just turn off your brain and have fun sometimes. I thought this movie was hilarious and had a good time with it. I had my friends girlfriend next to me the whole time and she didn't even connect that it was a Spider-man movie till after it was over. I said did all the Spider characters give it away?
I watch each and every video for about a year now finally took time to comment to say thank you so much for always keeping it real this channel is dat deal!
What Sony wants to do is keep cranking out these mid tier movies so they can hold on to the rights of spider man. Morbius really didn’t even lose money. This might not either. It’s pretty obvious what they’re doing. They don’t care about the bad press, they don’t care about the disasters, they want to hang on to the spider rights.
At the same time why keep the rights if you’re not making money off of it? “Let’s not lose the rights because dollars” *makes movies that cost dollars but don’t make any*
Bro you just said who’s ever been making all of these movies none of them has picked up a comic book or even know what’s going on are you have to do is follow the comic book simple

Yet, Monica is more angry that she didn't call or come to visit? She just outed herself as space "bad guy from WW2" and the other characters barely bat an eye. She sulks for a bit, but then they all join forces and everything is ok again. Where is Kamala's broken faith in her hero? Where is the hesitation to work with her that you'd expect from someone asked to put differences aside and work with a genocider for the greater good. Marvel is so worried about offending women that they can't give this character any actual depth. That's why The Marvels was bad.
Tony was always flawed. He boned up a lot, then grew and fixed it. Cap had his faith in SHIELD crushed and he became a criminal in service to what was right. Natasha was an assassin for the enemy and turned after meeting Clint. After that, her whole being was focused on cleaning her ledger. Even Scott was grounded by the potential loss of his daughter. They started a similar arc with Carol. Then quit halfway through.
This is generally the 1st time I've seen Ryan disappointed at reviewing a movie par from Secret Invasion, he's usually a great optimist😂
Same!
He was PISSED. I get it. We love these movies so much, it just feels like betrayal or greed-fueled incompetence--or both--when one like this comes out.
Now I understood why Dakota Johnson fired all of her agents.
or did THEY fire HER!
Shout out to the Batman Forever sittin in the background 👍🏿. Underrated. Lol
Can we talk about how during the firework scene, they had a f****** bottle rocket absolutely LAUNCH a super human across the warehouse?
I don't like the Spider-verse movies so either I'm very wrong or I'm the only one who sees how empty they are.
"With great power comes great canon."
@@michaelmurray6197 possibly, i know that across the field there has been a ton of talk around huge crunch demands on animation and vfx teams which was part of the writers and sag aftra strike last year. Maybe disney is burning out their best talent and they are going elsewhere. Honestly i can wait 5 years for spider-verse 3 so long as animators are getting treated fairly.
@@tskmaster3837 "empty" isn't the right word here. "shallow" is, but then comes the question "why are you watching a cartoon and expecting depth?"

Wow. I've never seen Ryan be so dissatisfied with a movie. I'll wait to see it on streaming... Free streaming. 😑
You won’t have to wait long. Haha
Dang, nerds getting finer and finer every year😍
Don't listen to him. Even if you're a fan of Spider-Man and know who Madame Web is, this is an origin story. And like most movie made from comics, they alter the source of the origin. I didn't know her origins. I wasn't a big spidey fan back then and now. But it was an okay movie. It's a B plus at best. And it sets it up where she can show up in other movies later on and we'll see. That said, I don't think this movie deserves a sequel. I mean what is she going to do? Drive around in her wheelchair?
@@Cyranowanyeah it’s really not that bad
It’s not that bad of a movie lol this video is way over blown
Thank you ryan for taking one for the team ,and warning us about this film.

He does this for EVERY movie, show, commercial, etc…
Its not bad for cas origin story
Don't bother staying for the post credit scene....there is none..I tell you the entire theater was pissed.............................this movie is dodo
That guy at 21:40 sounded just like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons! 😂😂😂
Matt's scenes need to include a volume warning, lol.
This was the youtube video my mom was watching while researching spiders in the amazon before she died...
@@CyberChristlol get a hobby
This crap doesn’t make the recent MCU any good. 🤦🏽
@@CheebsCheeby Because I don't like MCU movies? Well, I used to love comics, but they destroyed that, too.
watching this cause im not going to see the film😂
The irony is they could’ve had a comics accurate Madamn Web and she’s pulling all the spider woman across the SpiderVerse to assist her in something or another instead of how they had it here with the opposite, would’ve made her like a professor x type
I enjoy your videos very much and look forward to your spin on movie reviews. Awesome work, and thank you for great reviews. Liked and subscribed
VENOM had the writer from 50 SHADES OF GREY (who is also directing VENOM 3)
MORBIUS had the writers from GODS OF EGYPT (Who are also behind MADAME WEB)
And KRAVEN THE HUNTER has the writers from TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT
AVI ARAD ruined everything again
And he isn't even involved in MADAME WEB
Yes I still also blame avi arad. Somehow it still reeks of him. He's just the worst
Kraven has a great director though
The writer of Morbius wrote this, that explains it all.

I've been wondering if Disney/Marvel could sue Sony for devaluing the overall Spider-man IP.
Oh man I wish!!
Marvel: Your honor, just look at this shit! You gotta give us Spider-man back

The only way to end this is for everyone to just boycott Sony Pictures productions (ALL of them) until they agree to sell the rights to the Spider-Man characters back to Marvel.
Make the franchise a liability to Sony rather than an asset so that they have really no choice but to get rid of it.
Wow normally I agree with you guys but I have to disagree on this one. I had fun and enjoyed it. Would recommend! It’s a fun and entertaining movie!
Watching the roundtable part felt like watching a sports talk show for a team that’s past their championship window and is about to collapse and go into a rebuild phase
You mean the last 40 years of Cleveland Sports talk radio?
"He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died" wasn't in the actual film.
You should probably move.
Cyborg, Justice League (2017)
I wonder if Sony ushered this movie to the market in an attempt to preserve the Spiderman property until they finish the Spider-Verse Trilogy because let's be real it's the only thing they have going for them right now.
it's been public knowledge for a while that's what they're doing.
Keep IP rights locked with movie every 2-3 years
I honestly thought it was ok. I think a lot of these critics go in wanting to hate films
nobody even flinched when Ryan brings up 'black cat', just as his black cat blocks the camera 😆
Thanks goodness you're sponsored by Better Help. I just signed up after watching this movie.
😂 oh man had the same thoughts while watching this video! 😊
Adam Scott is a baller. His stuff with Adult Swim, where he reenacts various tv openings was absolute genius. Scott's hilarious, and I want to believe he enjoys comics the same way he enjoys Fast & Furious.
Finally somebody with a platform saying all the things that I have been feeling for years about Sony
I don't get the reviews. I don't think that his movie is as bad Quantaumania or Love & Thunder, etc....
You’d think Sony would just be happy making tv & game console money…but no…no…their greed knows no bounds, they must run the spider man brand into the dirt.
Every time I see the trailer on TV, I think, “Yeah, not gonna bother. I’ll wait for streaming “ 😂
Good call 😂
Dakota Johnson definitely thought she was going to be in the MCU; she tagged Marvel studios in a social media post when she got the role. After she saw the first trailer and how bad it was, she fired her talent agency. I think she's doing everything she can to distance herself from this movie.
Sony is fulfilling a contractural obligation to keep a Spider-Man property in production at all times in order to retain the rights to keep IP rights over Spider-Man and affiliated IPs.
How was MCU able to make spider man without the rights? Did they just get permission or?
that doesnt mean they have to make dog sh*t movies to do so.

For the love of god can they stop. Even carnage was awful. And having two syms fight is so boring since theyre just blobs that cant die
@@Sheamus1212 I agree. I was hyped for the first movie, hopeful for the second, and not looking forward at all to the third. For a studio working so closely to Marvel, they've really learned absolutely nothing about... Well, about anything. Can't even seem to connect their movies.
Nothing in any of the movies has come close to having a villain as good as the first season of The Flash.
@@viperswhip Oh, I enjoyed season one. Not comparing the quality of villians, though. Venom would lose hands down.
1:45 thats because Dakota Johnson is a one-note actor. The movie could have been the best MCU movie there was, and she would still deliver dialogue the same.
This movie is the cinematic equivalent of a wet fart in an elevator - offensive, nauseating, and impossible to escape.
That's the stuff of nightmares ☹️☹️ and I speak from personal experience...If that movie is the cinematic equivalent of that count me out...
Like the opening of "The Suicide Squad" (Gunn's movie, not that first abomination).
One can only hope.
The first scenes were so fcking funny, because they kept zooming in the face every dialogue like a sitcom 😂
Sony makes the movies that Zaslav should be deleting
I can't believe Sidney Sweeney couldn't save this movie. They didn't play to her assets?
"On TNT" 💀
Why is Sony so obsessed on making spin off movies without Spider Man? What are they trying to accomplish other than money? All they been doing is hurting the Superhero fatigue.

Well, hopefully Mystery Science Theater can make something of this 😆
That I would pay twice as much to see! 🤑

Like really not good"
You guys have actually made the movie sound pretty enjoyable.

I knew when this video began with THAT quote that it would be a good time. Thank you ScreenCrush.
Well,if it were you, wouldn't you want to keep the rights?
All the while giving the MCU and Marvel proper a (much not needed at this time) worse wrap! 🫣
They don't need to put out 3 movies a year to keep the rights.
This isn’t true. Also box office disasters will affect a lot of things
At the same time why keep the rights if you’re not making money off of it? “Let’s not lose the rights because dollars” *makes movies that cost dollars but don’t make any*
