- Age of Empires 4 released on steam, windows and gamepass for PC today on October 28 2021! In this Age of Empires IV beginners guide I offer my best, simple starting strategy for players looking to advance to the second era quickly, with minimal clicks, largely free of conflict and distractions. AOE4 is a real time strategy game, and unlike say Humankind of Civilization (which are 4x strategy games that used a turn-based system), the game in age of empires 4 never stops (unless I guess you google 'how to pause age of empires 4 and hit esc haha).
In this Age of Empires IV gameplay tutorial I offer some useful information for beginners - an opening strategy guide for any skirmish (or campaign/ multiplayer game if you're feeling lucky, punk!). In this AoE4 beginners guide I teach you the basics for advancing quickly beyond the feudal era - this is my ideal build order for AoE 4 and hopefully you find the gold and food rush, maximum villager production strategy to be viable for you too! Why does this guy always get so many dislikes? He sounds so nice and happy talking about the game and I always see his videos with loads of dislikes
Anyone knows what's up?
It's generally just the videos that blow up and reach a larger audience - an audience that tend to be very focused on their niche, and their own perspectives.
I'd wager most people who disliked, personally attacked, or otherwise trolled probably don't need to be watching anything close to a beginners video because they likely know the genre all too well.
It's great to see, attract, or engage with a wider audience. Unfortunately, it often brings a lot of negativity to what is otherwise a very, very positive community here. Check out some of my other stuff and you might agree! :D

Yeah man sorry but following this guide you simply won’t win.
As a long time AOE fan, for the most part I'm loving the game. The videos in campaign make me feel like a kid watching the History Channel when it was good and showed actual history. The quality in those videos alone make getting the game on gamepass more than worth it for me personally. Game wise, I'm pretty happy with the formula, and provided they continue to build on it, I see a great future for the game. Some simple fixes I'd like to see would be: a auto scout button being added to the scouts, treaty modes being included in the game, map mods and custom map making abilities, higher pop cap, (why are we still stuck on 200?) Make the idle villies button more noticeable, and allow my to rotate buildings (this may be a feature I just haven't worked out yet. The method from aoe3 of hitting shift and scrolling doesn't though, and I've yet to find any alternative.)
i noticed yesterday,while bulding houses,you can rotate it by moving your mouse, but only one side rotation,not all 4
Also randomize empire selection instead of getting the English as enemies by default. :)
It never showed actual history. As a Historian, I can tell you that History documentaries infuriate me because they're full of sensationalized nonsense lol.
I love the historical videos and documentary intros, it is one of my favourite parts of the game. Also archers on walls! 🏹
I have some constructive criticism if you are open to it. I think it would be worth noting how important distance of travel is to resouce gathering. In your video your villagers traveled much further than what is optimal. The problem with this is that your deer were likely producing food rates equal to berries or even farmland. It is wise to set up a mill in these situations. A seemingly small change in strategy such as that can really turn the tides for a new player which this tutorial is geared for. In addition, I think it cannot be understated just how important free sheep are. They can be returned to the base for optimal distance to resource gathering thereby freeing up wood resources which is crucial for someone who is starting out.

Based on your strategy, the AI on intermediate is going to send units within minutes during the feudal age and destroy your whole village. You have no military
this is legit just trying to teach you the basic understanding of the game. pretty sure they know this
he would probably even lose to beginner AI.

It’s possible to advance around the 3:20 mark using this method. It’s not fool proof, but executed well you should advance and be able to build up before trouble hits!
So... we learned not to gather food from far away without a mill nearby like you did. Thanks. 😂
I would’ve also had mentioned and made use of the market in the feudal age. One of the most important buildings
my best starting strategy is 6 on sheep close to the center and scouting and generating workers
worker number 7 build house
worker 8 build logging camp
worker 9 mine
from there ill send new half half to food and gold until age 2 and before progressing to age 2 upgrade all economic buildings

I can play and 1v1 the Hardest level AI in AOE3 but literally AOE4's intermediate and even Easy are annoyingly difficult for their namesake. Easy on AOE4 plays like Moderate on AOE3. It's insanity. I have friends that have beaten Extreme 1v1 in AOE3 that can't 1v1 Hard on AOE4. It's insanity. It's going to take some getting used to.

To this day I've yet to see an intermediate AI not attack me in age I. If I don't have military in the first age I get rolled on Everytime.
@@kalen9370 They just attack so early. OR they send JUST enough to stop you from expanding. They'll kill like 5 villagers, then by time you get your military up there they flee. Then they attack elsewhere. You can't keep up, all the while every new villager you build is just replacing the ones you lost. You aren't building, you're just catching up. The worst.
@@detritus8076 That's a fact! Hopped on because there was a big update today and I feel like they made the AI even better! Like less than 10 mins in they were sending multiple units of 25 and it was eating my whole military just to stop them from ending me. My military was dying faster than it was being produced. 😮💨

On the interactions ratio - it’s worth noting that videos that blow up like this do tend to have more dislikes. People who are less familiar are more likely to rage, dislike, or disagree with the premise. For example, “beginners guide” is hard to pin down. People can think they’re a beginner, but they’re actually intermediate/ more experienced than *actual* beginners looking to find a way to get to era 2 as quickly as possible.

Looks like I have the early game down, but in the mid game the intermediate (new player here) AI shows up with a way bigger military in the mid game and wipes me.

This is highkey one of the most pointless guides i've ever watched. Change the title to "Excited to play AOE4". Thanks for wasting our time.
I was extremely excited for this game because i played AOE 1,2,3 and I lOVED THEM. AOE 4 left a sour taste in my mouth. I like to seat down, relax and enjoy building an Empire but the AI as soon as i started my Skirmish. I made 10 Villagers and 4 farms and within 10 minutes in the game. I am getting battalions of enemies rushing my town when i barely started farming. lol AI is OP! I am disappointed! Don't buy this crap. >:(

I have the same experience though. I wanted to just build nice town with farm lands, but AI was attacking me all the time.
