- Janine (Quinta Brunson) introduces her mother, Vanetta (guest star Taraji P. Henson), to Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Ava (Janelle James). Watch 'Abbot Ellementary' WEDNESDAYS 9/8c on ABC and Stream on Hulu.
Janine's mom facial expression when ava was about to make a slick joke was "this is the btch she's been telling me about... Try it while I'm here." 😂
That took me out
😂I I
The fact that both Taraji and Quinta made the same expression but in ways true to their character lol
That’s what I was saying. She was like “I’m not Ayesha, I will shut it down behind my baby, just try it” Ava was on her best behavior the whole day. Keep it moving, glad Ava knows how to avoid an ass whipping
My mom would've done the same thing, no time for fake niceness with that heffa 😂
“The key to never getting your a** beat … knowing when someone can beat your a** .”
Lmaoooo 😂😂💀
But she’s right tho 😂😂😂😂😂 as hilarious as it is 😂 that’s the ultimate key way to never getting yo ass beat
Facts.
That's in the constitution if not the Bible 😂
She (Eva) really has some great lines.
@@Lulu-wv1nt I seen it on the Declaration of Independence too 🤣
Janine holding back smile when Ava got scared of her mom 😂
She's shorter than her mama. She probably had to do a whole lot of standing up for her. Remember the episode with the two girls fighting? 😂
I don't know if she was trying to "mute a smile" as Barb once said to Greg lol. But Janine and her mom were doing the same lip movement. I think Janine was more confirming that her mom is about that life
Me with my mom til this day and I'm 33😂
Yes,it is understandable that Janine was smiling, Ava keeps disrespecting Janine every single chance she gets, and no mother would like anyone to disrespect her children.
0:28
Lmfao, "ain't nobody around here giving you problems? " Every time my grandma or mom come to my job and they always ask that question lol
That's why I hated having friends and family working at every school I went to
They protective cause they know! Ava is funny but in real life she the worst!
Bruh, that embarrassed the heck out of me 😂😂
😂😂😂
I had an issue with my boss a few months ago. My sister literally went in the store and told her I will drag you out of it.
I've been waiting for Taraji ever since it was announced and she did not disappoint. Hopefully she will return.
Last Night Episode Did Not Disappoint ‼️👍🏼👍🏾😁😁
Nah, Janines mom is toxic, hope she stays gone.
Taraji played Janine's mom as "gluten-free Cookie Lyons." It's a no for me, dawg. 😂
@@chantrellefung900 Janine has a lot of things about her stemming from her ma. Plus it was really cool to see her stand up for herself instead of getting steamrolled. 😎
I hope at least one more episode would be in order. 😄
I hope she come back too
If she makes Ava back up, she's the truth.
I'm guessing she doesn't think Melissa could throw hands. 😂
@@Gumbier_Than Ava’s probably banking on the fact that Melissa likely refrains from throwing hands because she wants to keep her job. Melissa would beat Ava’s ass if she weren’t her boss.
@@lexi219 yeah, I've seen some older ladies scrap like the junk yard against younger folk. 😅
@@lexi219 That part!!!😂
Haha I was going to say she ran so fast 😅
“You’re cool and she……” Not the Principal about to catch some cookie hands 😂😂 You can literally feel the angels grab her shoulder like “girl don’t do it!!” 😂 I love this show!
The angels 😂
Yep she literally got touched by an Angel lol
Forget the angels, I clearly heard Sofia (Oprah) from The Color Purple saying, *"Don't do it, Ms. Celie!"*
I love how, even though Janine's relationship with her mom is complicated, she still got that look on her face when Ava started her smacktalk like "oh sis, you do NOT wanna start this now" because she KNEW her mom would throw down.
0:28 I love this little moment that shows Janine picks up some mannerisms from her mom
Yeah
It’s the coordinated faces of Janine and her mom for me. “Like girl, that’s not what you want” 😂
The combination foot stamp- tongue roll, look up and down gesture while rolling the fingers said everything that needed to be said and Ava heard it, loud and clear!!!
Lmao lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
I think they did a good job on casting
They went for a character totally different from Janine and it explains so much about her and her sister's character
It’s actually pretty sad. It completely explains Janine’s lack of confidence, her destructive people-pleasing attitudes (which manifested itself in being stuck in a 10-year relationship with a terrible deadbeat), and her desperate, clingy attempts at finding a surrogate mom. In many ways this selfish mom really warped Janine in so many negative ways that Janine doesn’t even realize.
@@pdruiz2005 True, but at least she didn’t take on the same traits as her mom, she makes an effort to be there for the people she loves. Pretty much her mom showed her what not to be like
Cookie was about to throw hands 😂
Mr. Johnson is absent because we know what Cookie can do with a broom
@@tyso921 😂😂😂😂😂
@@tyso921 so funny
😂😂
@@tyso921Mr. Johnson probably saw her *before* Janine heard her footsteps and fled Philadelphia haha.
I’ll always know her as Carter tbh
I just know Janine was the sweet and sensitive kid on the playground and her momma was standing behind her glaring at anyone that dared make fun of her for crying lol
Ohhh just like my mam, i have an vivid memory of being in it was the first day the first grade and the teacher had my sisters before me. I was tremendously shy / sensitive, she wanted to know my name and I whispered Ciara Meehan and she was astonished “ ANOTHER MEEHAN ?! You girls just keep coming-. “ and the kids made funny of my curls and Irish brogue . I cried when i got home and mam was ready for blood. She drove me to school the next day and walk with me to my class . She saw the few girls who made fun of my hair had a sloppy imitation of my curls/ BAD hair styles , she smiled and “ talked “ with my teacher and removed me from it . 😊
I really hope Taraji gets a nomination for guest star at the Emmys. That woman delivered. Hoping she returns in Season 3!
I hope so too. And I'm looking forward to seeing her in The Color Purple later this year as Suge. I hope that she gets an Oscar for that!
She was nominated! 😊❤
The way to Taraji’s hair was splayed all over her coat collar was hilarious to watch.😂
It was a character in itself! she killed me trying to move it with those extra long acrylics 😂
Teraji would fit in any movie, sitcom, or whatever. She's always ready to work.
Ava and Janine's mom are basically the same person. lmao
Finally someone else sees it
No they aren’t. Ava may be a terrible principle, but her doing things like teaching the step team, taking care of her grandma, and having extra pairs of pants in her desk for kids who outgrow theirs and are less fortunate puts her eons above Janine’s mom. Ava was even hype for Janine going on her solo trip and actually does try to take Janine under her wing, even if it isn’t in the way we would expect. Janine’s mom ignored her calls for over 6 months. That’s terrible. And she basically told Barbara in a later scene that she had Janine at her own expense…
@@MickeyDs14 We've seen some good qualities for Ava throughout the two seasons, but Ava is still a very nonchalant, careless person in general. We haven't really been able to see any good qualities for Janine's mom because... well, she's only been on our screens for one episode. Ava had enough time to develop her character throughout the series. Overall, though, Ava and Janine's mom share a lot of the same qualities, which is why Ava took to her so easily.
Facts they should have casted them as sisters instead lol
I said that too
Gregory gave the impression that his dad was emotionally distant and hard to please. But when we met him, he wasn’t so bad, and maybe Gregory contributes to the father-son dysfunctional dynamic. Then Janine gave the impression that her sister was hard to get along with. But she wasn’t so bad, and Janine certainly contributes to the dysfunctional sisters dynamic. But then Janine’s mom shows up, and she’s a ball of chaos.
I think for Gregory his father was distant and strict growing up. I remember the phone call when Greg tried to be relaxed with him but it didn’t work. Then now that he is grown I think his dad want to maybe be nicer that why we think he wasn’t so bad 🤔 but that makes Greg uncomfortable
Yep, that’s how my mom is. Parents try to prepare you thinking they got to be this way then switch up. No no no, we know how you are , don’t try to be cute lol
Janine’s sister was kind of emotionally distant, didn’t wanna spend much time with her etc.
probably a factor of their mum pushing them apart due to putting Janine in the middle of the fights all the time growing up as Janine mentioned in the fight episode
Gregory’s dad was strict cos of the military background & he had high standards but I think he was proud of him when he saw what he’d done with the school garden 🪴
Don’t get me started on Ayesha. That episode when she came to visit bothered me. Who just drops their stuff off and dips. You can do that at a hotel, but she staying at her sisters house, she couldn’t have thought that Janine didn’t want to spend time with her the first night she was home. And she lives in another state. Ayesha was hella distant and I thought she lowkey does not like Janine, but turns out she was actually jealous of her.
Idk about that, they usually try to switch up later in life. Sadly in most bases it's "I realized slhow bad It messed YOU up so I wanna do better with the rest"
This will be an ICONIC moment for the show.
The same body lenguaje when they heard the almost insult.
I SCREAMED.
Ava found her match 😂
Taraji guested and showed them how acting is done. Great scene. Great writers.
Just seeing Sheryl Lee Ralph go toe to toe with another amazing actress was amazing to watch.
If you watch Sherly Lee Ralph in early years she had many roles like the Mom. I remember how she play a student told off the Teacher
The once-over Venetta gives Ava at 0:28 is iconic af. 👏
I was looking to see if that's what she said My name is Vonetta..not used to hear it on tv.😂
No one pronounces my name right smh
0:59 Cookie Lyon slips out a bit 😂
0:28 Janine’s smug glance at the camera 😂😂
So funny when Ava checked it and ran 😅
Even though Barbara never accepted the role as Janine’s work mom or mother figure I am glad she stood up for her and looked out for her. 😢
i know that was so sweet 🥹
As a teacher, this reminds me so much of my mom and I. I’m very calm and sweet but my mom will go off if she notices I’m not looking happy or if I look upset. My mom doesn’t care and she is my #1 supporter always.
I need more and more of Miss Vanetta. Taraji BROUGHT IT.
The incomparable Taraji P. Henson 😍
This scene is LEGENDARY
I mean...look how talented Taraji is- I was so excited when I found out she would be appearing...the look she gives that kid when he refers to her as grandma is hilarious (just an appreciation post, I know they're all fantastic).
My favorite thing is when the comment section is full of people having a good time about a fun show and then one person going "This isn't funny" and getting no likes or replies. Like they're standing outside a party that is open to all, staring balefully with their umbrella in hand.
So satisfying when people simply IGNORE the trolls lol
Also YAS vocab, come thru BALEFUL
@@AnomicBalm Lol, thank you! 😁
😂😂😂😂😂
FR LIKE YALL ARE THE ONES WHO LOOKED THIS SCENE UP WHY ARE YOU EVEN SALTY 🤣
People are trolls because they don't like something? Okay, that's fair 😅
0:27 Ava vs Vanetta: Vanetta by TKO!!!!
But seriously, I did not expect Janine‘s mom to be identically similar to Ava personality wise. And it’s so satisfying to see Ava be taken down a peg
Ava didn't want the smoke. Vanetta was about to throw down.
After this episode, y’all think we’re gonna get an episode with Janine, her sister AND mom ??? 🤔
All time favorite scene... Mama trifling...but say something slick about her child..it is ON!!!!
This was one is my favorite episodes. Taraji P. Henson is a great actress 💯💯💯
It's interesting how everyone thinks that Ava "found her match." I personally don't think Ava could bust a grape in a fruit fight. That's why she has so much mouth; those are the main ones. Talk so much shit but can't back it up. Ava is not about that life, and mama checked her quick!
Yep. Ava is a big fish in a little pond. She's surrounded by mostly mild-mannered teachers, so her trash talking makes her seem tough. But she knows when to talk trash and when to shut up -- like when Janene's mom gave her that look.
@@seriousone8030 She's like sheneneh both can throw shade, but will flee at the drop of a hat
It's a character on TV show. Not that serious. But to entertain your argument, people said she's "found her match" because Vanetta matches the same energy as Ava, whereas everyone else around her doesn't. There was never any indication that Ava was every a violent or hood person. She was just someone who was never serious about anything.
@Msleelee S Fair enough. But not every instance in a TV show has to "depict life." Some aspects are just simply entertainment. Nobody said you aren't "allowed to commentate about it." But there's no indication that the character of Ava is supposed to be this big, bad bully. Her character is written as a nonchalant, careless person who doesn't take anything seriously.
@Msleelee S I don't know any school that would allow someone to have a level of authority and be unprofessional & unserious 95% of the time. Like, it's not normal or acceptable that a principal hits on a teacher and people around it just ignores it. It's also not acceptable in reality for a principal to rib the students or make jokes about their employees. I doubt there are many people blackmailing a superintendent for a job. Some things are dramatized/exaggerated for entertainment purposes. And the depiction of Ava is just one of those instances. But I'll take your word for it.🙂
She may not be the greatest or the most responsible mom there is, but she will go full out momma bear if she catches you insulting her baby.
0:27 This is now the hallmark of hilarity that is Abbott Elementary
Love how Ava backed off 😂😂 I just wish it meant lifetime respect for Jeanine
0:27
That was satisfying lol
Her stand saying “She what ?”
too bad she didn’t meet Gregory I would have love an interaction between them because they are literally the opposite ksksksksksks
She would’ve likely acted like a cougar
She will meet him soon.
Cookie still Cookie, okayyy...Sorry not sorry😂😂🙌🏾❤️🔥
Taraji P. Henson was brilliant with this role!
Taraji still brings the alter ego cookie now and then😸
bro this is gold 😭😭
I love this! Just cast her as a mainstay already!
The sound design on this is bonkers! 😂 the nails clicking for added effect is just top tier detailing...😂😂😂
We NEEEED to have an episode that includes a plot line of Ava vs. Janine's mom!!!
Love this show. Can't wait for it to return with a new season.
“i climbed up two, in fact.” janine is too cute, she’s so adorable and reminds me of my own sister. ❤
Her Glance At The Camera Like "This Isn't Gonna Go How She Thinks" Was The Best Part!!💯🤣
Janine and her mom making the same mouth movement as Ava makes her comment. 😅 Better run Ava!😁
Turns out Ava is a humble self aware human being. She knows her limits and is not afraid to say them.
It’s truly amazing how slow the melanin… love my Queens
Taraji is still giving me COOKIE LYON vibes!!! ❤
Taraji P. Henson is phenomenal.. i love her ..recently saw The Color Purple.. her as Suge Avery was just ❤❤❤❤
This show is HILARIOUS!😂
I smell an Emmy. She was great.
I saw some mixtures of cookie with that stare and smile she gave to Ava i was thinking she gon drag her all over the school lol
Ava and Janine are 100% endgame. The writers have pretty much confirmed it.
i cant believe Janine's mom is legendary Cookie Lyon
In my humble opinion, Taraji P. Henson is one of the best actors of our time... and she just happens to be gorgeous...
She still giving Cook lying with episode❤
Janine’s mom and Greg’s dad is a duo I need to see
And you know damned well that they'd go for each other the minute they see each other. I'm bracing myself. They'll have to meet soon enough.
Taraji playing Janine’s mom made me love this show even more 😂 it’s like the more I watched the more I was like “I love that they did that”
Taraji should've gotten an Emmy for this.
Idk how I got here, but now i want to watch that show so bad!!!
Love this show!
That's Taraji P. Henson!😁
Nah that's cookie
Taraji being Quinta’s mom is so perfect even down to their looks!
Janine’s mom shut Principal Ava down with a look!
#1 sitcom🎉
We ❤ you Taraji! Actress Superior!
Looking incredible!!!
:20 shows how great an actress Tara P. Henson really is. She's heard of everyone there from her daughter and since she's the mother picks up on who's great and maybe not. Just needed to match the faces and had positive thoughts with Barbara, and it took Ava all of a split second for her to zero in and know EXACTLY which one she was 😅😅
Taraji P. Henson on Abbott Elementary!
That is some serious Gen X energy right there. The whole vibe was just off the charts
she was giving cookie vibes i loved this
0:28 that face 🤣
It's kind of sweet that they had Vanetta clash with Ava and and no other scenes. Normally they'd get along swell but it would discourage Janine, and for all her behaviour Vanetta will defend her daughter from Ava first. Oh and their combined sass would blow a hole in the space-time continuum.
A key to my success for years😂😂😂😂
Great acting and episode! Plus Taraji and Quinta look alike by the eyes. They could pass for mother and daughter !
This is how my Sister is in Real life. I'm laughing so hard because it's like I'm watching her on screen.
SHE so sensitiveee😂
felt that one in my bones
Mama was ready to whoop ava ass 😂😂😂
"ain't nobody giving you no problems aren't they?" you just know she was about to get them classrooms shaking
I loved this episode 😂
Taraji is an amazing actress, that woman can play anything and make it look good!
there is a lego version of this scene and it is *chef's Kiss* find it, know it, love it.
Vanetta was ready to throw hands😂
Cookie came out for a second!
It's the clacking of the nails for me
Cookie was about to come out and rock Ava
Barbara was like. "I Ain't said nothing!, matter fact, I got to go do something back there!"
Taraji needs a reoccurring role!
i love how taraji went full cookie lyon on ava 😭
