What's sad and concerning, is that this information is not taught in most schools. I think it would be awesome if financial literacy courses were absolutely required before you could graduate from high school and university. In my 20's, I was a complete dodo bird about finances. I was making an adequate living, but spending every penny (and much more). Thank goodness, I finally wised up and got my act together. Today, there are so many ways to learn how to become financially literate. People just need to educate themselves and have a bit of restraint.

The pre med requirements provide a foundation necessary for understanding medical school at the rate and level it’s taught. It also filters out a ton of people from the already insanely competitive (and outrageously expensive) medical school application process. I don’t agree that we should get rid of the undergrad requirements before medical school. Students need to prove they are academically capable at a high level.
A lot of med schools don’t allow you to work during coursework (many have a contract you have to sign and you can lose your spot if you are employed) so unless you have an affluent family, they back you into a corner so you have to take loans for cost of living.. we have such a stupid system here.
But the lifestyle inflation after students become residents, fellows and then attendings, leaves them in more debt bc of living above their means. That’s definitely true. As medical students, we literally get zero counseling on how to handle hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans, which is unfair.

Alot of healthcare workers lives in a financial bubble regardless of a 6 figure income. A lot of my colleagues are drowning in debt, with little to none in savings or retirement accounts and their only focus is starbucks, dinning out and vacations. it really doesn't matter how much you make, is how much you can keep. Too focus on following the crowd will leave you broke and paycheck to paycheck. We need more financial literate teaching people.

Unpopular opinion on GS’s page but coffee rarely does. I don’t think it’s a time saver (the one I used to hit up had a long line). It’s a treat. I’m personally tired of people acting like it’s a big deal (it’s $10 to someone making six figures, people will/should enjoy themselves sometimes).
