- In this video we are going to talk about screwdrivers (again) 🤪
Mainly focusing in on the Vessel brand drivers including a look at the Vessel 220 USB + Plus sold mainly in the Japanese market!
Thanks to Justin T for sending us these new drivers to check out! We really appreciate it!
Apparently there is a higher power setting that I didn’t know about on the USB cause I can’t read Japanese 😂
Stay tuned for a follow up in a few weeks!
That flat tip with the parallel sides is called a “hollow ground” tip. I have a nice set of screwdrivers from Brownells which has served me well for many years with hollow ground tips on the bench. For back pocket, the Grace ones with the wood handles are very distinct.
I like Vessel’s impact drivers for stuck things, but PB is my favorite philips.
BtW, a nice trick for screwdrivers is to put a large heat shrink on one of the handles. Don’t use tape. I used to use that on a couple screwdrivers from a set and it held up for years. It was real easy to grab the right one without looking. I have also tried cementing in those small bits into the handles so they don’t fall out and get lost, which works okay until they don’t, which is of course when you really need it.
Glad to see that you received the box of goodies.
I noticed in the video that you have electric screwdriver on the lowest setting. The green light next to the forward reverse switch is actually a mode select switch there’s three settings to increase the torque. When you press the mode select switch until it is a solid green that will put it in the highest torque and speed setting. Also there is a cam inside the electric screwdriver that allows you to actually put quite a bit of torque and use it as a manual screwdriver without any damage to the gears in the screwdriver.
On the light there is also a magnet on the tail end of the and a magnet that holds the light closed. Which I found can be used to droop the light over the edge things like file.cabinets.
I was wondering how to set that! I can’t read Japanese!
I’ll definitely point that out in its own video later. Thanks again :)
Thanks for taking the time to film a first impressions video.
Really neat flashlight and usb screwdriver. Looks like I now know what to ask the in laws what to bring me back from Japan when they go at the end of the year. Thanks for doing this review, cheers
Switched from Klein to Vessel a long time ago and haven’t looked back. Thanks for the review !
My brother is the DIY guy of the family and introduced me to the Milwaukee usb powered flashlights they are not as fancy as the Japanese flash light you have but it is also magnetic. I keep it my pocket all the time.
Hey Jason the bit holder can probably be modified, cut down 1 inch you would think the holder is all the way Down too the handle take flash lite look down the shaft 🌴😎
Great video as always Jason, definitely a subtle difference between bench vs field tools and appreciate your sharing what you find/learn. Can’t wait for the follow up to see if that USB one can really do the last mile (turn all the way in or get tough ones out)
vessel screwdrivers are awesome. ive been using them for about 2 years now, and they are VERY well priced, so i have been telling NO ONE because i dont want them to start selling well and get expensive.
right?! I didn’t even bring up how well priced they are!
My humble opinion. The Dewalt battery operated screen is the best. it has variable power setting. I use it on everything. Of course I have to use a 2 inch bit. If your carefu not to hit the lockl it works great, and It has enough power to drive a 1 inch screw.
I always reach for Vessel when I have the right driver for the job, particularly my Megadora (the turquoise ones with hexagonal grip) and their precision drivers that come in sets of 6 with color coded adjustable rubber grips. LTT when I want ratcheting though, it's unrivaled.
Vessel and PB Swiss...you talking my language! These are my 2 Favorite Screwdriver manufactures. The Ball End Vessels look odd till you actually use one then you'll get it. The PB Swiss #2 has replaced most of my Screwdrivers as the handle is great for applying torque and it's lightness is key when you're on a ladder working overhead. You can go wrong with either brand.
Have you given felo ergonomic ago. I love pbswiss but I reach for felo ergo. I hate to admit.
Hi Jason.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
So informative as usual.
Some of the mikita bits will work with the vessel japanese bit shank sizing.
Sweet Haul - I love that USB screwdriver but looks like it needs a bit more Jam. And that usb work light is nice and compact. (Where did i leave my 1/8" hex)
Justin let me know I had it on the lowest setting!
@@selock let me know how it works with more Jam 😀
Hollow ground slotted driver, same used for gun smithing.
Can you still turn the electric vessel to get you optimum snugness? Cause then at least you can use it to save some work on your hands.
niceeee
Have you use mega pro multi bit screwdrivers? I carry that in my pouch as my go to as well as a small flathead freebie that came with a dynalock maglock lol
I don’t, I just take it out and fiddle with it every so often.
@@selock I’m interested in how the vessel will work on those mortise cylinders. I typically do the turn driver one way and cylinder the other to get twice the turns…
LOL I'd NEVER use a powered screwdriver on those tiny screws cylinder, they will strip in an instant, if they aren't already, are often old and, weak, seized either over time, or with a light threadlocker.....im only a fan of drills/powered screwdrivers for driving in fasteners non stop all day - they dont even come close to the tactile ability of a hand driver as im sure you know!!!!!!!!!
