I think this is excactly the message of most of these folks talking about narcissism. Get out of the relationship if you can and then work on yourself so that it does not happen again. If you can't get out, work on yourself because the narcissist cannot be changed.
I believe youre correct about the hypnotic effect.. but incorrect with the shortage of people whom are doing this toxic immoral behavior. I woukd say its 5 out of 6 people whom are really immoral and abusive in dominance through immorality. I think we can prove this too
Then again someone high in narcissism might a I'll not be a great friend or partner. The information can still be useful to identify people you might want to avoid or could be unpleasant to be around.
I don't have a problem with making content about difficult behaviours etc. but this idea that narcissists are under your bed, in your kitchen cabinet etc. is nonsense.
I think you’re oversimplifying grannon’s views. I’m not going to trawl through his videos and quote him but I’m certain he’s made very clear distinction between trait narcissism and NPD and he’s able to clearly explain what NPD is beyond DSM criteria. What you’ve explained sounds accurate but quite basic compared to some of the insights from Grannon (not to mention Vaknin). As someone who’s been through narc abuse they both speak about it with a far deeper understanding than others , because they’ve lived it. Only people who’ve been through it know. Never felt that about Dr. Ramani who I think demonises these people too much and seems to focus a lot on outward aggression which I don’t think needs to be present. Vaknin and Grannon both explain clearly how being in relationship with someone with impaired reality testing and false sense of self really messes with your own reality / sense of self. That’s the core of NPD and narc abuse as I understand it (also a view supported by Dr. Mark Ettensohn who I think is also knowledgeable).
This comment is spot on. Also there is a brilliant RUclipsr with a channel name that will probably always stop her from becoming popular, The Little Shaman, but her video on gaslighting is a masterclass in narcissism. The name was something like narcissistic gaslighting is different.
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't the same thing happen with Robert Hare and psychopathy? Basically Hare started to sell different seminars and courses on how to spot a psychopath and shield yourself from them. Which to me sounds ludicrous and a bit grifty. I think every time we focus too much on the label, and not on the BEHAVIOUR of people, when talking about how to shield yourself from abuse, we go from sane point of view to somewhere else. People can be abusive without psychiatric disorders and people with disorders, even psychopathy, aren't always abusive. From the point of an individual it doesn't really matter. You need to learn to stay away from abusive people, period.

Grannon has repeatedly told people watching his videos not to diagnose other people.
I don't think that makes him any less of a charlatan.
Fair enough. Chrs
The most knowledgeable on this is Professor Sam Vaknin
I'm not sure about Sam Vaknin. From what I've seen, I think he's too close to the subject matter.
