Ah yes this is good, we certainly missed you Mack. It’s so nice to see you doing your thing leaving no turn unstoned and starring to build up your SUN record collection again. I hope all is well for you down south in Argentina. Thanks as always Mack keep the fun going.
@5:49 - BRENT - Bobby Shad's label to attempt to cash in on smaller / more obscure artists. Was on the hunt for the whole catalogue a decade ago... it's not huge but very interesting and diverse. Some sides have reached epic prices since. Admont is the publshing I think. Remember he's the one that signed Janis Joplin first. at least as the story goes. He was mostly NY based but signed guys as far away as Cali and a nice chunk of Garage rock found on BRENT... a compilation of BRENT sides were released in an unassuming 60 minute compiliation LP in early 1966 called 'music for the dance crowd'.. to confuse things more on Shad's other label TIME (everyone is familiar with TIME.. those international music compilations you see in every hunt).. well Music for the Dance crowd is one of the 'rare' ones. Thought I was share that..because it appears you bought the five counts record.
Ok seeing the Quality label got my attention in the thumbnail..but I couldn't see the fine print - they were the official Canadian stampers for SUN among many other great USA labels. You might know if there are any unique Quality releases..like an alternate take ect found on the record compared to the USA counterpart..??
Geeze that's a nice shop owner - so accomodating. Most shops around these parts.. if I said to them 'lay it on me' they would present me with a bill for their time. 😂
Welcome back Mac. I found some cool records and one of them is :Oscar and the Majestics , house of the rising sun 1969/Dawn on Soulful Records BP 200. Any interest?
Blue Garland replied to this (and removed the reply?) .. said something about Discogs Median prices. I don't care about discogs median prices in general... and I was reflecting the price compared to an ORIGINAL pressing what you can get for a few bucks - regardless of Discogs median prices LOL - I get why it can be helpful to use DIscogs.. but have you seen it lately over there? It's a mess.. nothing against your notion. I just see too many contradictions and price fixing and just also reflect those Sun reissues on 3rd man ..were half the price .. that's more like it and I bet those SUn sides are WAY rarer than the Syl .
You are a sharp shooter most of the time but I've been seeing you flip past alot of good stuff...thus far namely Gibble Gobble - Willie Wright & His Sparklers on King which goes for around $100!! (@12:43)
For what it's worth, normally when he's in a place like that where he'll likely have to pay more/strike a deal, he'll typically stick to the stuff he knows/is Rockabilly-adjacent. Also, he was in the process of moving at the time.
@@SantosLHalper33 agreed. Mack is usually super consistant, so taking nothing away from him. just thought i'd point this out as i;'ve rarely seen him pass on items within the r&b cannon (and yes he occasionally passes by soul and other sub genres but rarely gut bucket r&b titles like this, esp on the king label) hope the move goes smoothly for him!!
@ 4' he passes over Syl Johnson : Dresses too short on Twinight - a deep soul uptempo classic; @ 6'10" the same with 3 McKinley Mitchells on One-Derful another Chisoul classic ... = different strokes 4 ....etc
You kept pulling out 45s at that darn Blue Note label flashing it again and again and passed it by. 😂 Pausing the video it was Jimmy Smith Midnight Special. Only worth a couple of bucks. It’s amazing how when digging we zoom in on labels we want and the brain ignores the others.
@@SPINNINGMYWHEELS777 I don’t doubt that at all. I was commenting that I noticed that one where as I’m missing the ones he’s focusing on. It’s what we do.
there was also a rather worthy 7" on blue note by kenny burrell - chitlin con carne --- in fact i say Mack passed by quite a few good to great 7"s this time around (namely the gibble gobble by willie wright on king)
I've never seen so many records without sleeves just stacked on top of each other with no regard for care taking. As you are flipping through them I can hear them scratching each other. I cant stand to watch these records being damaged like that!
They are pretty robust little things , some of them look like they've been used as a frisbies but still play and are still valuable. Except styrene ,they are pretty fragile and wear out faster.

21:46 That Barrett Strong goes for $100+ in VG+ condition. Nice early Tamla from 1959, in original sleeve too.

To stumble upon those sun singles was good timing. Similarly you are now living amongst soccer world champions today. Congratulations.
I would love to visit that first shop! I would’ve picked that Willie Wright 45 on Federal. Lot’s of other labels flashing by.

@20:55 - that's a very modern reissue of the Syl Johnson. Way overpriced.
